I've stayed here a few times for business travel and have enjoyed every stay. The service is great at this hotel. And the dining at the hotel is very good, as well. There are also great dining choices close by. Parking is available across the street in a garage for $30 overnight. And there is a Starbucks a few doors down that is open at 6 am. All in all, great location and service.

The hotel itself and the room were very nice. The room wasn't over the top in terms of style or amenities, but it was clean and comfortable. Great location in Berkley, but it would be so nice if they offered valet parking.

Your options are a $20/night garage across the street, metered parking (that isn't easily available) or a garage a couple blocks away that is $15/night. Makes it challenging when you're trying to get several people into the hotel late at night.

If you're going to eat breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel, make sure you give yourself plenty of time. Service is slow in the morning but was wonderful in the evening when they serve dinner.

This was a wonderful surprise. We booked here as we drove into town last minute. The hotel was so reasonably priced I wasn't expecting much. But it was a wonderful location, beautifully designed, great service and the restaurant had the best burger ever! I am excited to come back to this hotel if I need to! It was half the price of similar hotels!

I had an excellent stay at Hotel Shattuck. Beautiful boutique hotel, great place for the price and the staff was absolutely wonderful! So helpful and friendly! I highly recommend, especially if looking for great place near downtown San Fran, but do not want to pay downtown prices. Plus, the BART station is right across the street!

Room Tip: It was a little noisy, being that it is in downtown Berkeley. Try to get a room with a window that...

I don't often associate charming with contemporary, but somehow Hotel Shattuck Plaza achieves both. The rooms are unquestionably contemporary with sliding panels, bowl sinks and flat screens. The lobby has a quirky black and white and red decor with a grand marble bar. Hallways to rooms meander. Super clean, comfortable beds, good food and drinks. Some city noise is to be expected. Overall a good experience.

I stayed here for two weeks last September 2012 for a business trip and I always looked forward to going back to the hotel after a long day at work.

It was clean, nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The location was perfect as it's very near BART and I was going to San Francisco everyday.

Room Tip: I think that if you're sensitive to noise, you might want to choose the rooms that are not facin...

Please don't misunderstand; I don't mean issues with cleanliness, I mean with the construction of the bed linens. I have to go into some detail here, so bear with me. Now, for tiny people, this probably would not matter, but we are 5-10 and 6-0, so here goes. The housekeeper tucks everything in SO tightly, that to even get into bed, you have to pull everything out, including the bottom sheet. Then you are re-tucking the bottom sheet. The next problem is that the next sheet (the one you would put over you) is so short-tucked at the bottom of the bed, that it comes untucked at every toss and turn (and there were plenty, I will explain why later). By about 2 am, everything is in chaos: the comforter is all balled up with the top sheet and literally I could not sleep at all. My solution is sometimes to remake the whole bed before I go to sleep, untucking everything from the top sheet upward, and then tucking things in deeply at the bottom but loosely so I can toss and turn. I might sound like a prima donna, but honestly, getting a good night's sleep is the Number One requirement in a hotel, and here, I slept miserably both nights. Why can't the housekeepers make the bed like you would at home: bottom sheet tucked tightly in everywhere, and then just lay the top sheet, comforter, and whatever else, gently hanging down to the ground? I have this problem wherever I go, so it is not just this hotel.

Besides that, the front desk staff were very helpful, Victor in the restaurant is a joy and joyful (although breakfast was really hit and miss with the service: items wrong, requests ignored, WE were ignored, etc.). Other plusses: free WiFi everywhere, much appreciated, very clean, spotless bathrooms, nice armchair and desk chair in room. Another weird thing, though: it is possible to lock yourself OUT of the bathroom, which I have never seen in a hotel. If that happens, you must use some kind of tool (I used my nail clipper as a screwdriver) to get in. Not fun in the middle of the night!

Overall, would return but would request a consultation with the head housekeeper about the bed.
Location is excellent, close to BART, but there is nothing to do in Berkeley.

Room Tip: There is noisy street cleaning out front at 4 am, from room 425, so ask the front desk about this.
