Great location, attractive but terrible service. No communication between departments. Poor attitudes. Would have expected much higher level of service.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room or suite, some rooms are very small. Bathrooms do not provide sufficient privacy.

The hotel was clean and fresh and had great staff. One of the front desk staff (Josh Bryan) lent me his personal cell phone charger when mine was locked in the rental car and I didn't have the keys. The bartenders were witty and had excellent suggestions for local restaurants. Was there for a fairly stressful business trip and it was I nice place to return to and cool off before dinner. Thanks guys.

Room Tip: Ask for an inside room if you are bothered by street noise. I was in a corner room and could hear everything done on a busy street. Still slept good as I ever do in a hotel.

Such a nice place to stay in Berkeley. Walk to the campus, Telegraph Street, Bart, short drive to other places we wanted to go in East Bay. We were fortunate to find street parking overnight & Sunday, didn't need the garage. Down side - our room on back side next to elevator. But surprisingly little noise from it. More noise from fans, etc. outside our window on the adjacent roof, so we kept our room fan going to try to cover that. We've also stayed on the street side, a little noisy from the street, so just a fact of life in a city hotel that there's some noise. Think I prefer the street side, fun to watch the Berkeley scene.
As to the complaints by some, we didn't mind the glass bathroom door, more opaque than clear. Yes, I guess if you need the light at night that's a problem, but that's what the night light's for. And a coffee maker, where are they going to find room for that? Room is small, but quite efficient use of space.
All said, we'll be back, maybe next month, take Bart over to a Giants game.

Dear Nevadaconnie,

Thank you for staying with us multiple times and we are thrilled that you might stay with us when coming to see a baseball game. The convenience of BART is really a treat. We are continuing to make improvements based on feedback such as yours and will be adding coffeemakers in most of the guest rooms next month and resolving any concerns about the bathroom doors transparency.

Thank you for your comments and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kindest regards,

Greg

Stayed at the hotel while on business. A lot of attention has gone into updating the rooms. The rooms seemed clean and modern but extremely small. My shower stall was tiny - almost couldn't turn around in it. And unfortunately my room looked over a roof in the back. Absolutely no view.

I stayed for several days and ammenities were not always replenished. Good restaurant downstairs but only the bar was open after the dinner hour. Disappointing in that regard.

The neighborhood is not great on Shattuck in that area. That's not the hotel's fault but something to be aware about. The friendly and attentive service gets really high marks.

Dear Drum_bum,

We appreciate your comments about your stay with the Hotel Shattuck Plaza as it is one way we learn what we are getting right and where we can improve. Thank you for mentioning the team’s friendly and attentive service as it is a standard we work hard to provide consistently to every guest. I am delighted to report that since March we have seen a dramatic improvement due to our Downtown Ambassadors. Whenever you need directions or have a question the Ambassadors are in the bright green jackets to assist. They have also been instrumental in the clean up and beautification of our sidewalks and streets.

Thank you for your comments and we hope to see you again soon.

Kindest regards,

Greg

Hotel was ok to good. Really a 3.5. We got a good room rate for the 4 night stay so I gave it a 4 rather than a 3. Very noisy - poor if any sound insulation. Room was nice but small. Location was great.

Room Tip: Wish I had a tip on quieter room. Poor sound insulation.
