After about three decades Chez Panisse still serves some of the best meals anywhere in the world. It's all in the ingredients and letting the flavors speak for themselves. It's all rather simply prepared with a good deal of restraint to create a tasty and tasteful dining experience. The only drawback downstairs is that you have to make a reservation before you know what the menu will be for the night. If that doesn't work for you, stick with the upstairs cafe, with a full ala carte menu.
