“A great restaurant in free fall descent”
Reviewed May 9, 2009

With the introduction of bento boxes in the lunch menu, removing their most exquisite entrees at the same time, O Chame is "taken the low road".

From being one of the top ten restaurants in the Bay Area, it has declined rapidly. The bento boxes are overcooked, greasy, tasteless, and pricey... and give a bad name to bento boxes!

If the chef at O Chame doesn't wake up, they will lose the loyalty of all of their long-term patrons. I can't count the number of times I've had the best meals of my life at O Chame, but now I won't be returning.

My kids have eaten the scallion pancakes since they were small. Lovely to sit outside on 4th street and have little yummy dishes. Not your usual Japanese restaurant, but prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

“Authentic Japanese food”
Reviewed May 10, 2008

This is a great authentic non-sushi Japanese restaurant. Nice atomosphere. The waiters and waitresses are friendly. I had lunch. Grilled salmon with cooked vegetables and mushroom. Very nice dashi. Excellent. Salmon was good rich with some fat. (I like it!). I think this type of Japanese food is less common in the U.S because everyone thinks sushi is the only Japanese food. This restaurant provides traditional Japanese food which we would like to eat more on a daily basis, and they are doing a superb job. If you want to try other than sushi, you have to go and you will enjoy it for sure.
