My wife and I went to Berkeley for a celebration of 100 years of Cal Gymnastics. Met for an early dinner on Thursday with another couple (who recommended O Chame) in the fashionable 4th St. on shopping area. It was so good that we came back for lunch on Saturday.just for the noodle bowls. Given that we only had a couple of days, that says a lot! The bowls are big enough to share, especially coupled with an appetizer. The place is Asian in feel, but the food is a real fusion of flavors. Can you say pork belies for an appetizer? We had noddle bowls of sliced duck and another of with smoked trout. The broth was sumptuous!

We had a wide variety of menu items, and all were fine. But something just didn't ring out. Maybe the slightly overdone salmon. The noisy atmosphere. I don't know, just not a "5".

Enjoyed my meal at O Chame.

Shared several starters, including an interesting tempura with taro root and kabocha. Liked the udon with Monterey squid.

Nice atmosphere.

Would return.

We were hungry for Japanese food so we wandered into O Chame, right in the middle of the tourist district in Berkeley.
The restaurant was crowded so we expected a tasty Japanese dinner. What we got was "OK" but not great. I ordered a noodle soup dish. The portion was small.
Their prices are a little on the high side so come prepared to spend some dough.
All in all we were not impressed

Excellent varied but 'controlled' menu. Food creatively and well prepared. My soba noodles with smoked oysters was exquisite. Staff attentive and not over bearing. Comfortable, non pretentious atmosphere.
