Bette's is a famous eating spot in the Bay Area! With hundreds of great reviews and kudos in local magazines and papers... had to try it...
My experience was to wait in line for 45 minutes, to be served quickly and in a friendly way, to eat the tasty (but not so unique or out of the ordinary) food. It was good, but for me... not worth the wait, crowded and loud atmosphere, and price. Just my opinion. Hope it is helpful!

this iconic diner with oversized suspended-from-the-ceiling gigantic slices of pie and oversized pancakes with hugempats of butter is a very popular ( go off hours if you hate standing in line) is a great stop on the popular Fourth Street shopping district. Went on a late morning Friday, so no wait, and had the poached egg California brakfast ( home fries with bacon are to die for) and special egg scramble. The puffed up gourmet pancakes weren't sampled, but looked like a decadent indulgence. service was cheerful and prompt, clientele eclectic and interesting, and left with a Bette-autographed " The Pancake Handbook" so could recreate the favorites from home. No ocean view ( bay view blocked by industrial strip between Fourth Street and the water) but there was plenty to see with people watching ( and specialty dish viewing) from within

I think of Bette's primarily for breakfast and that is when I have visited. It is a unique diner with a changing menu but always has the staples as well. Last time I visited it did not take reservations and thus one has to be prepared to wait to dine. Also, there is no view, but the food is very good.

Enough said... They were even able to handle my gluten free needs. The staff is wonderful, the food is better, the atmosphere is a lot like an old 50's diner. You need to check it out!

It's good but I don't love it - I like that they put herbs in the omelet and give you fresh baked goods but attitudes/diners in general aren't really my thing and aren't worth the wait.
