This is the best street in Berkeley. We found the best restaurants and shopping on the street, we even found a farmers market one day, unfortunately we did not have a refrigerator in our room so we couldn’t take anything back to the room unless we were going to eat it that day. We found some interesting book stores including a half price book store where I got a first edition Carlos Castaneda’s The Art of Dreaming!

I've been around Berkeley long enough to remember when Shattuck was the city's main commercial thoroughfare, a place for comprehensive shopping and restaurants. The presence of a BART station right in the middle of downtown added to its convenience. But over the years, the grime and seediness of Telegraph Avenue has seeped westward and now encompasses Shattuck as well. A range of solid businesses closing up shop and being replaced by fast food joints; homeless and aggressive panhandlers a presence on every block; graffiti and trash far too common. On the plus side, it's nice to see cultural investments like Berkeley Rep and Freight & Salvage, but coming out the door late at night it's no fun having to look over your shoulder constantly or wondering if your car has been broken into....again.

a nice walk, many places to eat, shops, BART station, live music spots, the library, the theater, many 60's refugees, in short - take a walk...

Great fun just walking around. There are many stores, bars, and restaurants to stop in . Of course, catch the side streets as you walk toward the Berkeley campus.

Lot's of great spots to grub. Better known as the gourmet ghetto. If you're looking for pretentious pizza this is the spot.
