Trash everywhere, stores along streets mobbed with kids many closed and fronted by chainlink fence. Homeless blight blocks on all four sides not far away. Not hard to imagine burning fires and shrieking mobs just under the surface.

Besides being one of the top schools in the country, this is one beautiful campus. Take your time, walk and enjoy.

This is the place in the 60s that shaped the generation with the free speech movement. Where the initial protest to Vietnam war. It's an open beautiful campus .

I was in Berkeley for only few days, but I must say that it is always a pleasure to take a stroll in the University area. The buildings are impressive, there is place for gardens and small forests (even an eucalyptus grove) and at the end of January you already see signs of Spring in the Magnolia, azalea and other bushes. Not to forget the sculptures around. I really like the one by Pomodoro (Sphere within Sphere). I have not been at the Botanical garden this time, but I rememberd from another visit that that was also very nice.
Best of all is to see the very kind students around and the fantastic atmosphere there!

It’s beautiful and you can feel the student atmosphere.
You must go to the top of the tower and admire San Francisco Bay and university campus
