Our visit to the Riu was unforgettable!! The staff work exceptionly hard to keep the resort very clean and the grounds beautiful. The food is AMAZING, buffet huge seletion and very good. The a la cartes were delicious also (esp the Steakhouse).
We were extremely fortunate and received a free upgrade to an oceanfront, top floor corner suite.
Room 5328, unbelieveable!!!!!! A fabulous view and the most stunning room ever !!!
The beach was clean, big enough and plenty of beach chairs to sit on and take in the tropical pleasures.
There was 2 pools, one a little quieter then the other.Poolbar was always packed and the service was adequete,no worries on vacation.
Overall,we found this resort to be one of our top favorites.I think number one actually.
We would DEFINATELY return!!!

Long overdue review - December 2013

Typical greeting of any 4-5 star resort, smiley faces and drinks. The beach and resort itself was beautiful. However, the Sandals resort across the ocean was constantly taunting me :P (it just looks so beautiful!!!) The staff was very friendly and grounds crews maintained the property. They were great at climbing up trees and picking out coconuts for you to drink (an amazing experience, they literally climb up the tree like monkeys). Once you leave the resort, expect to be bombarded by cab drivers and people offering "services". They are generally easy going when you decline them though. If you get a chance to head into town, go to the KFC!!! I'm serious!

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff members. Check -in was simple and well organized. The resort is very pretty especially the pool area. There are plenty of seats with both sun and shade. Pool bar was great with friendly staff. All the staff in restaurants, buffets and bars as well as the hotel in general went out of the way to meet our needs. There was plenty of wonderful food with a wide variety. The nightly entertainment was fantastic and the staff ND ACTIVITIES DEPT. DID A GREAT JOB. Some people were bothered by the planes overhead as you are close to airport, but wew were just glad we were not on them returning home!

Upon arrival at Riu Montego Bay, we were greeted by a very friendly front desk receptionist and bell man. The Hotel was clean. Very clean indeed. The only thing I did not like about this first class resort was that they still use the old fashion key to get into the room. It was very difficult to get the room door opened. This was not an isolated problem. Many guests had the same experience.
Food was plentiful with a wide variety of selection in the buffet diner. Accommodation and entertainment were good. People working at the hotel did their best to make you feel welcomed. The beds were hard to sleep on and pillows were not very comfortable to lay your head on. Overall the experience was good. Riu really needs to address their "OLD" fashion door key policy and bedding.

Room Tip: Rooms in buildings five and six facing the sea is very relaxing. Ask for upstairs rooms in these buildings.

Time of experience: second half of February.
It is close to Montego Bay, planes roaring above your head all day long.
Resort is rather small and compact, if one likes walking..forget it. The beach is about 500 m long only, and only a few trees for shadow. Hard to find shadowy place on the beach, same more or less around the pool. People get at 6am to claim good spots, it is crazy. Beach chairs are dead beaten in a very bad shape.. More better quality deck chairs can be found around the pool area, but mattresses on them are dirty and made of sticky plastic. Ocean is very calm, no waves, feels like a lake. Water was rather murky within the allowable swimming area. Bottom full of sea grass and slimy. They allow glass bottles and glasses on the beach, it is very dangerous.
Room was very clean. Food was decent. Service at the bars and eateries very fast and friendly. Staff is very nice and friendly across the whole resort. They allow people to smoke and eat from plates at the pool bar, after 6 pm water there is more like a cesspool, plenty of spilled drinks and food floating occasionally. There are trips from the beach. $30 for snorkeling, but reef is nothing special. Activities are available, like in any other resort (volleyball, aerobic (on the beach, in the pool).
Shows very average. I expected to hear plenty of reggae live music, but this is not a case at this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay extra for the room with a ocean view !! It is a building where people are less noisy.
