The rooms aren't very soundproof... you can hear everything going on in the hallway such as doors slamming shut or cleaning ladies gossiping early morning and drunken guests trying to find their rooms in the middle of the night. I heard stories of theft in guest rooms even things stolen from safe! The reception staff is rude.... period. The food was excellent, especially the "Jerk Chicken" on the beach for lunch.. It's a party Riu (like most of them).. They boast their infamous Pasha nightclub filled with very very drunk youngsters thanks to the "all inclusive" concept.. The gym is pretty run down.. the beach is nice but nothing spectacular.. The pool area overpopulated..

It is what it is: somewhat affordable resort with all you can eat and drink in a zoo of foreigners more than happy to drink themselves silly and forgo all sense of decency, moderation and self-respect...

We were looking for a quick vacation and the RIU met our expectations. The resort is really nice and the rooms were acceptable as I have a "phobia" about rooms. We were on put on the first floor in the back and we were able to change this right away. I loved being greeted with the um punch on our arrival.....very refreshing. The grounds were clean and the entertainment was very nice, we enjoyed it.

I have to say reading the reviews we was a little nervous but when we arrived at the hotel we realised that everything people was complaining about WAS RUBBISH. Food absolutley amazing and so much choice. ENTERTAINMENT STAFF, BEST SO FAR. They go to extreme lengths to make sure you are enjoying your holiday. (Fish and chips;) service was absolutley brilliant and friendly. The planes dont bother us we turned it into a drinking game which made it more fun. Overall an unforgetable holiday. Shout out to my jaminglish sister momo and to mellow yellow man. Absolutley hilarious. And of course Russian for making us laugh over these 2 weeks !! Defianly re booking for next year. ENGLAND !! WOOP WOOP !!

Stayed at the Riu MB from Dec. 10-14. Because the resort is very close to the airport, we got a taxi at the airport and took it to the resort. It cost $20.00 each way which was $2.00 more than our travel agency was charging, but it was well worth it and would recommend anyone staying close do the same. We landed at the airport at 1:05 pm and were checking into the hotel by 1:30 pm. It doesn't get much better. We were immediately checked in and shortly thereafter went to our room. The attendant was busy delivering bags so we took our own so we could get settled and change right away.

Though the room was pretty and well cleaned, like some others we did notice a slight musty smell in the room. After a day or 2 we didn't notice it any more, but I suspect we got used to it. Any way the bad part about this is when we got home virtually all of our clothes including the few not worn had that musty "Jamaica" smell and the clothes had to be washed 3 times finally in a different detergent to get the smell out.

Now onto some of our other observations. Overall the staff was very pleasant and helpful. So many seemed to be just every day really nice ordinary people who were genuinely glad to help you. We were able to get in both of the Specialty Restaurants (Steak House and Asian) we wanted and both were good and I would recommend them to anyone. We didn't try the Italian because after viewing the menu it didn't appeal to us. We always liked the food and service in the main buffet restaurant. One night they had "jiggy cocoa" and it was awesome, but we never saw it again. After trying the jerk chicken served in the hut by the beach for lunch it was so good that it became our lunch of choice for the next 3 days. I will add that for 2 of those days a small buffet was setup by the hut along with a Bacardi bar which made for an excellent lunch. We also ate lunch at the restaurant by the pool one day and that had good choices as well.

Even though there seemed to be a decent sized crowd at the beach and the pool we were always able to find a good set of chairs at either place so getting up early and saving a chair like so many do wasn't necessary for us. The pool was terrific, clean, and well maintained. We also enjoyed watching the games that were offered each afternoon at both the beach and the pool. One disappointment we experienced was it cost $20.00 for a catamaran ride which were complimentary at similar resorts elsewhere.

As for the beach. It didn't seem dirty as some others described. My description would be it was nice sand for a few feet and then seaweed the rest of the way. Not really an ideal swimming or hanging out in the water type of beach like most of us would want.

As for the entertainment it was as good as many resorts offer and we generally liked it each night, especially the fire dancers show that was put on.

As I've said the overall resort was good, the pool was terrific, and the food and entertainment was good, but if I return to Jamaica I'd probably try somewhere else since there are several other nice resorts out there.

Room Tip: We were in the 4000 bldg which is the farthest away, but even that's not too far. So I would recommend anywhere else.
