We stayed for three nights at the Union Hotel for a nostalgic visit ten years after moving away from Benicia. We were delighted with our accommodations. The hotel's friendly staff, antique-filled rooms, beautiful decor and in-room Jacuzzi tubs made for a luxurious experience. The Union combines the charm of a bed and breakfast with the privacy and large rooms of a restored historic hotel. On Thursday we were treated to a Farmers' Market just outside the front door (including bbq Tomales Bay oysters) and complimentary pizzas and tapas in the popular on-site restaurant. We travel often and always check Trip Advisor for lodging and restaurant suggestions. Often we are amazed at the discrepencies in people's opinions. One reviewer, who criticized the breakfast, was actually in the foyer and missed the adjacent large breakfast room with fireplace, cloth-covered tables, and cooked-to-order meal. A man from Kansas sitting near us remarked to this wife that he would stay at bed and breakfasts if they wre all like this. We agree.

I cannot imagine that anyone found this hotel to be the least bit acceptable. It is poorly maintained and any repairs that have been done are of low caliber, poor workmanship, and without regard to the historical significance of the building. The television in our room was no more than a 15 inch monitor hanging on the wall; the water heater banged away through the day and night; hotel laundry was piled up in the hallway for hours; doors and windows rattled incessantly. "Breakfast" consisted of overripe bananas and stale cereal tucked into a corner of the incredibly small reception area. The owners of this property and business should be ashamed. Don't trust the photos on the Union Hotel website - they are incredibly misleading.

I have stayed at the Union Hotel in the past and each time I stay there I feel relaxed and pampered. I see that the hotel’s furnishings and décor, including the intricate wallpaper, are carefully chosen to enhance the experience of the Victorian inn. The staff are friendly and accommodating. I also recommend dining at the hotel’s restaurant. It is a pleasure to stay at the historic Union Hotel.

We booked our stay at the Union Hotel on their website. It was a great way to go because we could look at the unique rooms before booking. We picked Victoriana because it looked like the most interesting room of the lot. When we arrived it took a few minutes for someone to appear at the small front desk, but once they did we were quickly checked in. The room was clean and full of wonderful antique furniture. It had a character to it that is lacking in most American hotels we have stayed in. The beds were comfortable and the hotel was quiet. Overall we had a great stay and we will be staying there again on our next trip to sunny California.

We wanted to find a unique hotel to celebrate our fifth anniversary and found it in the Union Hotel. Our room was stylish and the ambience fantastic. The staff was most professional which added to our stay. We'll be returning to celebrate!!!
