“Wish we could have stayed longer!”
Reviewed August 9, 2006

We spent two nights for our anniversary this past week. My husband and I both were very pleased with our stay. The staff was friendly and helpful. The view of the bay and the surrounding area was like a postcard. The room was clean and comfortable. Glad we took a downstairs room with a patio. So nice for watching the water as well as people walking by. This is a place for friendly people. We will return to this place again.

We stayed one night in a ground-floor room after having looked for a decent place to stay all along the Santa Barbara coastline.
What a surprise to find such a lovely place in a real Californian neighborhood with a good Mexican restaurant right in front.
The room was very nice, tidy, well furnished and a beautiful view right from the bed.
A complimentary breakfast is served in a small café right in front. (Don't hesitate to trade in your voucher for bagels, muffins and a joghurt.) We will stay here again.

We just returned from 5 days at the Back Bay Inn - we were so pleasantly surprised when we arrived, since we had never been to this area before - we picked the Inn based on others' reviews in Trip Advisor. We were a little concerned about the Inn being a bit noisy - since another reviewer had mentioned this; however I have to say that it became a joke between my husband and I about the 'noise' every night; it was absolutely quiet! We never even heard a door slam or voices from any other room (even the room above us). We were on the 1st floor, in room 102, with 2 entry doors - one by the drive area and one opening onto the Bay. The bed was a king sized pillowtop with extra pillows - very comfortable. The sitting room had a second television (cable included), so that you could sit on the sofa and watch TV with a view of the bay out the window and french doors - we were delighted! I also wanted to comment on the outside lanai areas (since it had been mentioned in an unflattering way in another review) - if you wanted to not be seen by your next door neighbor - all you had to do was move the chairs a bit closer to the doorway; however, we liked the interchange with other guests and sometimes seeing a few of the 'local's on the boardwalk with their dogs for morning or evening walks - the grassy area out the back doors, near the bay, had adirondack chairs and we saw several guests using them early in the morning in their bathrobes (it felt that private). We also loved the food at the coffee shop!...(Breakfast is included with the room fee). What a wonderful cook - homemade muffins and scones were available daily (among other choices).

The afternoon wine and cheese that was served at the Inn was also appreciated - the only recommendation would be for the management to be a little more generous with the cheese/grape portions!

Overall, we cannot wait to book another visit to this lovely place - it was very special to us and we hope that our description will help another couple discover it as well!

This inn doesn't look much from the outside initially but it was so lovely. Rooms are all situated facing the bay and there are huge windows to admire the view. Rooms are spacious and clean. There is a lovely garden and deckchairs to sit out on. The weather was foggy when we were there but I can imagine on a sunny day it would be idyllic!

Wow!! This is the best deal on the central coast of California. Seriously. It's a terrific, tranquil, friendly escape. Gorgeous views of the bay literally right outside your sliding glass doors. Pristine clean, with carefully selected decor. The innkeeper and staff are friendly, genuinely nice people. It has the feel of a peaceful, relaxing, home away from home--except that its views are stunning, and the natural surroundings make for a wonderfully quiet retreat. The grounds are beautifully kept, the wine and cheese get-togethers in the evening can be great little social visits with neighbors, or you can take it to your room to enjoy alone. The free breakfasts are great, and the inn's prices can't be beat. Nice place for bike rides, hikes, boating--or simply sitting in your room and staring out the window at the glorious surroundings with a good book or your favorite person. I cannot say enough about this wonderful little getaway.

While the Bay is beautiful we were given a room that is for the handicapped. While I have no problem with the handicapped it was a little much to be in a room with bars in the tub, next to the toilet and the handicap symbol on the door to the bathroom. I was told I would be in room 103 when I booked the room What I WAS NOT told is that room 103 was for a handicapped person. ALSO. Decor in this room is COMPLETELY different than the others. The bed spread was rose floral as were the pictures. I looked in all the rooms on the bottom floors (the have glass double doors so I was not spying) and they all had contemporary bed spreads and furniture. My husband said it looked like he was staying at his grandma’s house. AGAIN, nothing against the elderly or handicapped but it was not our idea of a nice room. The young lady at the desk offered us a room upstairs one night and then another room downstairs the next night but the upstairs room did not have a balcony and in the end we did not feel like moving every night. I feel a little taken because the person who booked my room "KNEW" that it was a handicapped room and said nothing. I would have asked for something else. We were at the end of our honeymoon trip and this left a bad taste in our mouths.....
So moral of the story. Stay here, it is beautiful property, quiet and peaceful, but if they offer you room 103... JUST SAY NO.
Oh yeah, the do offer the freee brekfast now at the coffee shop across the parking lot. It was pretty good, but bread was burnt both days.

I don't write reviews, but this inn is an exceptional one.
This inn is truly a hidden treasure in California. The view of the bay is stunning, you'll be amazed by the serenity. Birds chirping, perfect view, and nice clean room. What more can you ask ? They serve wine and cheese in the afternoon.
This the only inn that I'd come back to over and over again.
The breakfast is not that bad as reviewed, they are planning to offer a full breakfast from a nearby cafe for no extra cost.
You won't regret it.
