A quick stop in at Bakersfield was just for one night, en route to Las Vegas. We were initially put in a smoking room, but the ladies at reception were able to switch us to a non-smoking room quickly and without fuss.
The motel is situated just off the expressway, making it easy to find and easy to get going again the following morning. The rooms were a little tired, but the bedding was clean and had all the amenities you could need, such as a fridge, microwave and coffee machine. The Wi-Fi, although free to use, was impossible to make work. It did seem to work on in the front lobby though, so I'm sure if you were desperate you could use it in there.
There are several fast food options across the road from the motel, but no grocer or supermarket. Continental breakfast is included, with coffee, juice, cereals and pastries.
Overall it was fine for a one night stay (and had a really cheap rate), but we probably wouldn't stay again.

Room Tip: A room closer to reception would receive a better wi-fi signal.

Thank you for staying with us and for sharing your experience. It is common practice with similar lodging establishments to use the night window as we have limited staff during the late evenings into the early mornings. Nevertheless, we regret the inconvenience. We will also be more vigilant in keeping our rooms fresh for our guests.

While the sheets and blankets seemed clean the carpet was a mess and needed replacement . While the staff did its best the breakfast was a joke with no selection at all-my wife gave up and went to MacDonalds . Price compared to other motels in area. Children seemed to hang out in the entry area and behind the counter .

Thank you for staying with us and for your feedback. We do our best to offer clean and quality beddings and linens. We are glad that you noticed it. As a value lodging leader in Bakersfield, our free breakfast is highly ranked in our segment and can get our guests going in the morning. We will review our free breakfast to see what we can add to make it more enjoyable. But, as a value proposition, we understand that sometimes that is not enough. With the extra room savings, many guests do visit one of the fine food establishments within walking distance. As for the carpet, we will be going though all our rooms to make sure that they are clean and fresh. We hope to see you again soon.

The bad - we were made to wait for over 10 minutes while checking in because they were counting their drawer out. Though the reservations were made 8 months earlier the rooms were not next to each other as requested. The toilet in one room was constantly running and there was mold around the rim. Paint had been dripped on the tile in the bathroom. There were no blankets on the beds. The remotes did not work, neither did their replacements. The 'breakfast' was sad, a few bagels, cereal, pastries wrapped in plastic, lukewarm water for tea. Rooms were not made up at 3 pm when we got back to the room.
The good - one of the receptionists tried very hard to make things right. Finally got rooms next to each other. Toilet fixed and cleaned. Brought blankets (but why weren't they there to start with?). The housekeepers were very nice and eager to help. Nothing to be done with the breakfast. We had dogs with us and there were nice areas to walk them and the extra we paid for them was reasonable.
The wrap up. We would not stay here again. Too many problems and a horrible first impression.

I came for my dog breed national shows and was thrilled to not have to stay at a Motel 6. Howard Johnson was a great deal with so many amenities offered. Frig, micro, which helps both with my food and my dogs, hair dryer, coffee maker for those early mornings going to the show. Room was big and although there was some damaged furniture, TV remote was hard to work, rug stained and patched, it didn't effect my stay. Plenty of grass for my dogs and lots of restaurants nearby.
