“Hearty food and new friends”
Reviewed March 27, 2013

A classic family style Basque restaurant with three long tables where you are placed next to each other and other parties. They seat everyone at 7pm and start serving, you don't want to be late. The menu is set, so no worry about ordering and there are enough dishes that unless you are extremely hard to please some combination works for all. You do need to reserve a place, get there a bit early, check in, and have a drink in the bar if you want. At dinner pace yourself as there will be lots of food, meet your neighbors and share the wine. On our night it was cabbage soup, blue cheese salad, beans, bread, pickled tongue, pasta, oxtail stew, broccoli, fried chicken, fries, cottage cheese, ice cream and red wine. All freshly made, delicious, and for $20 per person.

“A unique experience for any tourist”
Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

If you love history and also the chance to eat great family syle food this is the place for you. You sit at long tables with all the other customers and the conversation only adds to the fun if you so choose. Each day they have a fixed menu and serving time so call ahead. The place is full of locals and is rich in old Basque-Bakersfield history and this makes it a MUST for tourists. Food is also great!

Sit down and have a cocktail at the bar before your meal. It really stimulates the imagination and the food is fantastic. As a tradition, my famiy and I go there whenever we are visiting Bakersfield. You can also practice your French with Bernadette. This is a plus for anyone visiting from the Basque country or any francophone country.

What a nice place for food and a nice experience for the family or couples. Just make sure you call ahead for serving times as they generally won't make an exception unless you happen catch them on a day where the dinning room is not full and this is rare. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

“An Original Experience in Bakersfield”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We make it a ritual stopover to have dinner at the Noriega Hotel's dining room when we pass through Bakersfield. The food is excellent and the long tables let one meet new people. It is almost impossible to finish all the food that arrives to the table!

“What a Great Place”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

I've had experience eating "family style" in other Basque restaraunts and this one fits that bill of fare well. The night I was there, the menu was fixed. A number of courses were brought out and as those were finished off more came. Bottles of red table wine were scattered about. The food was very good and typical of the Basque menu. $20 per person for all of that. Great value. The old bar out front was pretty cool too. Nothing fancy but steeped in old time history of the era.

“The original - Value Unbeatable”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

The food is the same every week for a season or so...but it is excellent. For 20 bucks it would be hard to buy the same amount of food in a grocery store. It is good quality and cooked well. The atmosphere ( 40 guests at 1 table ) is very unique. A must go , when you are in BFL. Google for Noriega's and New York Times..they got a price from them last year..
