“Old World Basque. Where everyone is part of the family.”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Traditional Basque food served family style. Everyone sits at the same table. Reservations recommended, especially for dinner, and be on time! They only serve at one time of day. If you are late you miss out. Breakfasts served on the weekend only. Menu is set, you get what they serve and they serve plenty! Food is always a great experience and the atmosphere is traditional 40's. Walking in this place is like stepping back in time. If you dare, try the traditional Basque drink-Picon Punch.

“Basque food at its best”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

One of the older Basque restaurants in Bakersfield and one not to be missed. the meals are served family style and they are a great way to taste and enjoy the food and the traditions of the Basque community. I recommend this for a treat to yourself and your family/friends.

“A Basque dining experience in Bakersfield”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

We read about this amazing restaurant dating from the 1800's there are 4 Basque restaurants in Bakersfield however this is the only one that has remained unchanged & authentic, we arrived shortly before 7pm & had a drink in the crowded bar, At 7pm the door to the restaurant opened & the manager calls each booking out & you are shown to one of several long tables. We did not know a soul before we arrived but on leaving we felt we had made several new friends, everyone chatted across the table & it was interesting to learn most were locals & descended from Basque migrant families several generations ago. The meal was served it consisted of several starters lettuce with blue cheese dressing, potato salad, sliced ox tongue, bread, bean salad next came the oxtail stew & chicken portions in a garlic crust & vegetables, followed by chocolate mint ice cream. A bottle of decent red wine was placed on the table & the meal cost was $20 per person. There were no less than 7 birthday parties & each time a birthday cake appeared the whole room of 200 guest sang Happy Birthday. It was a most enjoyable evening. They served breakfast at $10 & lunch is $15 menu changes daily check their website for more information. If passing through Bakersfield, try & fit in a visit to these charming old eatery. Booking is essential.

Where else can you go and get an awesome meal with wine included for under $25.00. A different meal everyday, lunch and dinner, and breakfast on the weekends, yes wine for breakfast too!

I really enjoyed this place. They had good food, friendly staff, and it's really a cute place. Nice change from the same old restaurants here in Bakersfield.
