We live in San Francisco so must say we have visited some great hotels. The Padre is right up there with the best. We especially appreciated the attitude and information provided by the front desk staff. They were friendly, fun and informed. We especially appreciated Marcos (hope we got the name right). He was just great. The bar scene is fun too.

Room Tip: Our room on the 5th floor was fine.

It is so great to hear from our guests, especially when they mention how great the staff is! Everyone on the Padre team takes pride in what they do and where they work, and we do our best to make sure it positively affects our guests' experience. Thank you so much for the review, I will be sure to share this with the team. Marco at the front desk will surely appreciate the mention! We hope you can visit us again soon!

Stayed here last night. Bar has a great atmosphere. Valet guys were really lovely and accommodating. Rooms are spotless and modern. Love the huge waterfall shower. There's a nightclub downstairs but it didn't bother us at it finishes up at 130 and we just came back to the hotel close to midnight.

Close to bars with great music. Definitely a plus. Only negative and it's not a big thing is that firstly I walked into the hotel and asked the receptionist for room prices. Then I went outside and looked it up on my phone and got the hotel for $20 cheaper so I booked online through another website. Check in girl was not impressed. Ah well. Money is money

Thank you for the review! It is always great to hear from our guests. We hope you can visit us again soon. Next time be sure to ask for a Head Honcho suite- the jacuzzi tub has another exciting "waterfall" feature- it fills from the ceiling!

Stayed here for the first time last night. I found the hotel to be clean. The beds comfortable and the staff to be very friendly. We used the hotel shuttle for transportation so we were not bothered by other valet issues. We had dinner in the bar and I found the food to be good. The drinks were good as well. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling through Bakersfield.

i was looking forward to staying here and i had a pleasant stay but this is a strange place. i had read the reviews about the party scene on the weekends so nothing would have induced me to stay on a saturday night. however i was staying on a wed night in early december so how active could it possibly be? well, i walked in at 7pm and it was in full swing. loud music and 20 somethings abounded. the issue is that the party scene is not even remotely segregated from the lobby. it is right there as you walk in. i was really confused by this as the hotel has been stunningly renovated but i didn't hang around downstairs to investigate. the next morning i went down and all was revealed. they have two large bar areas, right off the lobby (no doors etc) that look like TGIFs, complete with pool tables and multiple TV screens. so, clearly ths was not some company holiday party (which was my guess when i walked in). this is their target market. i shared the elevator with a tipsy 20-something in a flapper dress and the base from the bar terrace below my 8th floor room was very pronounced. Bizarre! because....the hotel (apart from the TGIFs) and the rooms are stunning. they could not have done a better job restoring this historic building in a very modern and tasteful way. clearly they make their money from the party scene or they would do something about it. not necessarily an issue, just a management choice....but, in my opinion, a waste of a beautiful property.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the top floor not overlooking the party scene

Thank you for the review, we appreciate feedback and want to make sure our guests always have the best experiences when staying here. Our holiday festivities begin in early December and we have many holiday parties each night. We understand that not everyone is here for the holiday parties, and we will make a concentrated effort to ensure the parties do not interfere with our guests' overall experience.

My husband and I stayed at the Padre for the Thanksgiving holiday. I have been to the Padre before for drinks, but this was the first time we stayed. Artsy, hip and fun. In Bakersfield! I just love this place! Beautiful restoration with a sense of humor and a nod to Bakersfield culture...the paintings of vintage Bakersfield business signs in the Farmacy cafe, the huge mural of the cowgirl in the lobby, the fantastic vintage looking black and white wallpaper in the hallways includes images of oil wells, farm equipment and animals, guns, etc.The bed, pillows and the linens were very comfortable. We had a nice room with a shower and a view of downtown.
Now the downside: the bathroom was so dimly lit it was hard to see anything in there. Even the light on the makeup mirror was very dim, totally worthless. And there were very loud people up very late, making a LOT of noise and partying on our floor. There are 3 bars in the place, so ask to be situated well away from them. We were, but even so the people staying near us were very loud and obnoxious, kept us awake. Thanksgiving night was much quieter. Lots of homeless/transient people downtown, probably not safe to walk around outside at night. Thanksgiving morning we went downstairs to eat breakfast and found that we could not order anything off the regular menu because they had an all day Thanksgiving brunch, and that was it. We did not want to spend $30 a pop on brunch, also we had plans with family for our Thanksgiving meal later. We walked around downtown looking for something to eat and there was literally *nothing* open, it looked like a ghost town! Granted it was Thanksgiving.
Friday we walked around downtown and found a fantastic music store, a record store and a vintage clothing/consignment shop that was one of the best I have ever been to! There are also some art galleries, but they were closed. The old restored Fox and Nile Theaters are also very close by. The Padre would be the perfect place to stay if you were going to a show at the Fox or Nile.

It was a recommended by a coworker and it was the best hotel stay in Bakersfield I have had ever. Professional and helpful staff. The hotel feel is similar to a W Hotel I've stayed in the past. Don't let the downtown location fool you this is worth it. The parking was tricky but I used the valet parking which was a good choice. Ask ahead so you know were to stop for the valet parking. We had a company meeting there as that was the purpose for my stay and we will be booking it again as everyone from the CEO to managers want to make the Padre our new spot for meetings in Bakersfield.

Wanting to avoid the anonymous motels in Bakersfield this is an excellent choice. From the roof terrace bar to the restaurant and bars you can make a stopover in the otherwise deadly dull Bakersfield fun and interesting. Yes it's fairly expensive and you can see why but the valet parking is excellent value. Only downside is I feel breakfast should be included in the price. But there is a cafe so a coffee and a pastry saves you the hassle of looking elsewhere. If you can afford it, stay here.
