“Sunday drive to Ft Smith”
Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

Took old highway 71 south from Fayetteville, over the mountains for first time in many years with friends with the idea of stopping in for lunch. It is all "down home country cookin". Find you own table and step in to the buffet. Nothing fancy but they keep the food coming. Friend chicken, dumplings and all the fixin's you would want. Yeast rolls were very good but the pies are outstanding. They cut the slices small so can get two or three different kinds. For $9.95 plus drink it is worth the drive. Very close to Lake Ft Smith park entrance.

“Food like Mama cooked”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

The food was great, but not so great if trying to eat healthy! Bisquits and gravy, bacon, sausage and hashbrowns! Service was friendly and down home atmosphere.

“You Must Eat Here!!!”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Well what a welcome sight for the eyes & tastebuds!! Oh My!! On my trip all the way from Salado, TX to purchase pottery from Cheryl Buell Pottery to put in my shop at Mud Pies Pottery for the holiday season!! THEY CLOSE AT 2:30 PM so plan your late lunch with that in mind!! My watch read 2:40 and the staff said we were welcome to come and eat what was available on the buffet...and we did!! The buffet lunch was AMAZING TODAY!! Homemade and battered Chicken Fried Steak!! The most wonderful mashed potatoes with two kinds and colors of gravy: white and brown. additional beans, green beans, whole kernal corn and the most delicious Chicken & Dumplings! a vegetable medley along with cooked cabbage was so yummy! Topped off with golden brown very lage homemade yeast rolls to cornbread and homemade blackberry cobbler!! temptations continued to the FAMOUS HOMEMADE CREAM PIES! on a counter all to themselves: Banana, Awesome Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Coconut, Cherry & Pineapple!! these pies are so sought after, that the UPS man stopped in for some. (The regular UPS man runs in and out for a bowl of beans & water!) After a very curvy and beautiful fall foliage adorned roads we explored one end of highway 71 to the other missing my county 38 road from the south since a person can only see that sign coming from Fayetteville & not the south! So bring all your senses and a little bit of money on Thursdays the cost is $7.95, Saturdays its $8.95 and Sunday is $9.95! The entire staff were so helpful, nice, and joined in conversations when invited!! White lace table loths drape all shapes & sizes of antique tables!! You wont want to miss this one and only public restaurant in Winslow, Arkansas!!!

“Fried chicken, homemade rolls, and pie--oh my!”
Reviewed December 1, 2011

This cafe is on scenic Highway 71, a little south of Winslow. As the previous reviewer noted, there are limited days when they're open. This place is especially heavenly for those of us with an "eat dessert first" philosophy. There is a limited menu, but, there's a bountiful buffet for $7.75. Today's meat offerings were grilled ham, meatloaf, and fried chicken. The ham and meatloaf were tasty, but a tad overcooked. The fried chicken was crisp, moist, and not greasy at all. There was a large selection of sides plus fantastic homemade rolls. And dessert comes with it--a pie buffet, no less! And apple cobbler. My husband wants to return to try breakfast--I doubt they have the pie buffet then, alas! It's worth the drive for lunch.

“Secluded BUT well worth the drive!!!”
Reviewed November 22, 2011

This homelike cafe is located in Winslow, AR, on old Hwy 71 about halfway between Alma and Fayetteville. It has limited hours of operation - 8am - 2:30pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; Sunday 11 - 3. There is a menu BUT you really should try the breakfast or lunch buffet - a delicious variety of homecooked food. The lunch buffet includes a large table crammed with all types of pies that are included in your price. The hot rolls are to die for and can be purchased to take home.

This cafe is located off I-540 - Mountainburg, Chester, or Winslow exits and requires some extra driving BUT you will be glad you went after eating at GRANDMA'S.
