This hotel was horrible, easily the worst place I have ever stayed in my life. Having traveled in over 35 countries this is quite the statement. There was actually a poo in my bathtub. The toilet seat was made the same year the building was 1835. The building itself was an old home which could have been beautiful had it been repaired, or ever cleaned. There was no sheet on my bed, and I had to ask for another top sheet so that I could sleep. The walls were moldy and the floor was wet. The sink was not cleaned in the last century. I think you should avoid it at ALL costs. Stay in your car, stay in the bush, do not visit this place. there is anothernplace to stay in this area, I just don't know the name but it's in your best interest to find out. Breakfast was also a disaster. Hard boiled eggs and toast with chocolate sprinkles and something red..... See photos.

The room is small and the toilet is extremely dirty. With dirt all over. Avoid this place. You can't have a good night sleep here. Nothing provided in the room except toilet tissue. The towel is dirty too. Nothing is clean.

We stayed in Catimore as part of a package from Jogja to Bromo and then Ijen crater. There are only a couple of places that you can stay near Ijen but if you can avoid this one I would.

The hotel was filthy. I was pretty sure that our bed sheets had not been changed and the room had most definitely not been cleaned. There was still rubbish in there from previous occupants and there was visible dirt and dust everywhere. The bathroom stank and the shower did not work properly. To be fair to the staff once we complained they did change the sheets and give us toilet paper!

There was one choice of set menu for dinner which was not great but edible.

One redeeming factor was its location (proximity to the Ijen crater and also hot springs).

This was definatly the worst hotel of our entire trip around Java and Bali.
The hotel was part of a 2 night package, organised in Jogyakarta, to Mount Bromo, Ijen and on to Bali.
On first impressions it looked pretty and quant but the rooms were very poor. The walls were so thin we could hear every word spoken next door, they were also very damp. The bed was also damp and not to clean, we slept in sleeping bag liners.
There was a shower, but only the cold worked. Our friends stayed in one of the rooms in the main building and they had no basin or working shower.
On arrival we were asked to order an evening meal and opeted for the buffet option, even though it was rather expensive.
Unfortunately, buffet actually meant set menu, and the food was layed out on a table for ages while we sat on another table with drinks. Not until we asked, were we told that it was our food, by which time it was cold. The food was dreadful and tastless - an odd assembly of boiled rice, plain noodles, prawn crackers, potato croquettes, soup, and tiny chicken legs.
Breakfast at 4am was even worse! cold hard boiled egg and 2 slices of stale bread with chocolate sprinkles. Not what you need before a tough hike up Ijen. I recommend you take food if you must stay here.
Also - Make sure you get a reciept for everything. We were told we hadn't paid for our buffet and when we pointed out that we paid when we booked in, the owner got very angry and threatened us with the police. We ended up paying again to avoid trouble. another couple were charged twice for drinks.

If you are going to Ijen volcano with organized tour - you have no chance to miss this hotel. It’s built on the base of old Dutch coffee plantator house. The rooms are terrible, but you can get some beer and simple food (noodles or rice actually) in restaurant and take a hot bath in natural springs. The pool is also available. You can share a night talk with other backpackers to update your route.

Other reviewers have referred to the heritage of this hotel and, on first appearance, it does seem to have a faded glory. But staying here is a differerent matter. We stayed in the "best" rooms. While they were large and had their own bathrooms, they were also very dirty and crawling with ants and other insects. A host of long winged insects flew out of the "clean" bathtowel when I picked it up, and the damp bed was full of these wings and the dead bodies of other insects. I slept in all my clothes as I didn't have a sleeping bag to crawl into. Dinner was cold - no-one told us it was on the table - and an odd assembly of boiled rice, plain noodles, prawn crackers, potato croquettes, soup, and tiny chicken legs. Breakfast was a hard boiled egg and inedible white bread sandwich of rancid butter and chocolate sprinkles. It was also very noisy - both internal and external walls were a woven wickerwork you could see daylight through. The local mosque sounded the call to prayer at 3.55am - then broadcast the service for the next hour. Following this, work began with lorries turning their engines over and over, and - so it sounded - reversing into our room. We did not book this accommodation ourselves, we were travelling as a small group of friends with a guide and driver to see the Ijen volcano. None of the drawbacks of the guesthouse had been explained to us - which may have helped to manage our expectations. I understand this is one of the few places to stay near the volcano so almost has a captive audience of tourists - perhaps that is why they don't see any need to address their standards. But I would suggest that tour companies look for an alternative to stimulate some much needed competition.

The guest house was built in 1894 for visitors to the coffee plantation. It is an impressive building at the centre of the coffee processing complex. Sadly it has not been maintained. What is inexcusable is that it is dirty, the decrepitude is acceptable. It was so dirty I would not recommend staying here. You have to order the set menu dinner in advance. It was by far the worst meal I had in 3 weeks in Indonesia. The menu was tailored to western taste and was both bland and cold. Unfortunately if you are visiting Ijen volcano, there is no where else to stay. In this case, you need to bring a sheet sleeping bag and your own food and then you'll be fine!
