We absolutely loved our stay at this resort and would definitely go back. The bellman, Hector, and our concierge, Robel, were outstanding. They took such great care of us during our stay and got us anything we needed.

Everything was excellent except food. Food was average but breakfast was below average. And I mean no taste and no flavor. Food looks good, it is served well but I think the quality of ingridients are poor.

Sixth two week holiday at the extraordinary Excellence El Carmen, our “Secunda Casa”!!

Unlike many travellers, we enjoy being repeat guests. My husband and I love knowing what to expect, staying in the most spectacular swim up suites ever, swimming in the beautiful pools and ocean, relishing in the resort’s extensive amenities, dining at its numerous phenomenal restaurants, and most importantly, reconnecting with its incredibly kind, friendly, conscience, professional, and genuine staff who we have very fortunately befriended over the years!!!

We arrived December 31st and departed January 14th, 2020. Our room 9075, Building 9C, was an Excellence Club Beachfront Honeymoon Swim-Up Suite. WOW, what a spectacular location and view, simply stunning! The suite was massive, well designed, particularly clean and beautifully maintained. Milagros, our House Keeper always friendly and smiling, was incredibly attentive to detail, extremely thorough, hard-working, and she provided us with the best service we have ever experienced at Excellence El Carmen. Our Bar Man, also very pleasant and polite, was equally efficient and consistent at the daily restocking of the mini bar. We were most grateful for both of them taking such great care of us! Mui bien, gracias!! The weather during the first week was wonderful and so was the swimming especially in the ocean. The wind significantly intensified for the second week, so much so, that ocean swimming was not permitted for safety. Thankfully, the sun continued to shine through frequent intermittent showers for the remainder of our holiday which we fully enjoyed and appreciated. Thank you to Juan, Jensi, and Jordi for their wonderful and frequent bar service by the pool!!

For breakfast we alternated between The Lobster House and The Magna. Both restaurants spoiled us with delicious, hearty meals, and exceptional service. Many thanks to sweet, sweet Juana who we have known for years and her staff: Indira, Julio, Isabel, Nerfalle, Gloria, Alexander and many thanks to the ever endearing Ramon and his staff: Yilda, Mirian, Jencel, Braulio, Jisely. Special thanks to Gloria at Las Olas, Maritza “Mi Amor” by the main pool for her genuine kindness, conversation, and exceptional service, Vanessa and Felix at the Sports Bar whenever we had a yen for chicken wings, Veronica - Hostess Extraordinaire at The Grill, for always seating us at a lovely table, and last, but definitely not least, the lovely Lucia for her hugs and pouring the most amazing cocktails at The Magna Lounge!!!!

In closing, this review is a thank you to all of the incredible staff at Excellence El Carmen who we truly enjoy and who continue to care for us during our holidays.

Beautiful resort on a very nice beach about 45min from Punta Cana Airport. We were given an upgrade to building 3b as I had an injured foot and needed to be close as possible to everything while still having 2 beds. This is an Excellence Club building but we did not have the privileges. Was grateful for the upgraded room location though. I will say the back side of this building is not ideal as a new hotel is being built about 50ft away from the balconies. We didn’t get to enjoy the beautiful lounge furniture on the balcony due to this. But otherwise, the room was great. Just not a whole lot of privacy in the bathroom when travelling with a friend. But we managed. Housekeeping was great, though we only had turn down service on our last night. Not sure why that was. Didn’t bother us enough to complain. Bed was comfortable but a little too hard for my liking.

Only made it to the main pool area as others were too far for walking. This is the only heated pool on property, but it was too warm if you ask me. About body temperature. Wasn’t overly refreshing. Plenty of chairs but hard to find space with access to sun. Hard to hear myself say that about a resort. There were so many palapas around the pool and thus too much shade. Probably welcomed more in the summer months. Maritza, our pool waiter, was excellent. Very attentive and pleasant. Shout out to the entertainment team for keeping things lively around the pool. It wasn’t a busy week so they had their work cut out for them. Cappuccino always made sure to stop by and say hi, encourage us to join the fun and always remembered our names. Coca Cola, Mickey Mouse and Jackie Brown were great as well. There seemed to be a lot of unnecessary empty space around the resort. Outside of restaurants and coffee shop. From the pool to the main building. Seemed things were more spread out than they needed to be. Which maybe was only a problem because I was limited to my walking with my injured foot.

Food was good at the restaurants, though I wouldn’t say it was great. A little bland if you ask me. Even items labeled as spicy on menus weren’t very spicy at all. We ate at the Grill 2x and enjoyed our steaks very much. Quality of beef was great. But sides, apps and desserts were just okay. Emilio was an excellent server here and in the buffet at breakfast. He took good care of us. Spice was a disappointment. We ate off the menu and it was just okay. Too much sauce on the sushi. Pad Thai was bland. But it was edible. Lobster House was great for dinner and okay for lunch. Didn’t really care for breakfast there. Italian was a great lunch spot. They have a limited dinner menu but plenty on the lunch menu to satisfy everyone. We went casual and ate at the Sports Bar one night. Decent pub food. And Vanessa was awesome. She really takes care of her tables. Coffee shop is great. Sandwiches, desserts, pastries and ice cream. I can’t say I overly loved the desserts anywhere on property but the sugar donuts were tasty.

Unfortunately due to my foot injury by night time I was just needing to rest so we didn’t make it to the entertainment shows. It seemed though that the Martini bar was the hot evening spot before the show.

Overall, this resort is great. But I wouldn’t say it met my high expectations as an Excellence resort. But I have only stayed at this one and Playa Mujeres where I found the food very very good and the rooms superb. The staff here does make the resort though. Everyone was very pleasant and attentive. Made every effort to take care of us.

We recently celebrated a delayed honeymoon from January 13-19 2020. We used DAT travel and our driver Juan was very knowledgeable in telling us about the different areas and resorts along the way. It took about 45 minutes from airport to resort, which went fast. Our last few trips have been to Negril Jamaica, which is a much longer ride. As we entered the resort Edwin at the bell hop stand took our bags and we were offered cool towels and champagne. Check in was so easy.

There’s is nothing I can’t say to tell you how Excellent the resort is. We had a swim up junior suite- Non- Excellence club in building 6B. The room was clean, the fridge was stocked and they gave us a bottle of Champagne upon request. Our first day we had lunch at Oregano, they have delicious pizza then went down to the beach. The water was super clear. Slight buts of seaweed but we are from the East Coast, and it’s nothing compared to our seaweed filled shore. Our first dinner was at the Grille. Delicious.

I will note- the resort had some of the best bread I’ve ever eaten. Also- their coffee is great.

That night we met Auriello in the martini bar, he was the best. He actually asked my husband to guest bartend for a drink LOL.

The shows were good, those dancers work so hard. Then we met Felix and Vanessa in the sports bar. They are AWESOME. Best margarita too!

The next day we worked in the gym- top notch facility.

Breakfast was at the Kitchen Table- for a buffet the selection was great.
Onto the pool- we arrived and someone put out our towels which was nice. The entertainment crew- Black Coffee, Jackie Brown, Spaghetti and Kassandra worked tirelessly to make sure it was a fun day. Never had to wait for a drink, and plenty of chairs/towels and floats.

We had Lobster house for lunch. It was my least favorite place.

Dinner was at Chez Isabelle. Delicious. Note- all dinner places minus Oregano and Lobster house- men will need pants, collared shirts and closed toe shoes. Sneakers are fine.

The next day we went back to the pool, walked 3 miles ok the beach and had a delicious lunch at Las Olas- it was Dominican Day. At night it was the White Party. It was nice,
the food and the music was ok. The Urban show was good, and the silent disco was very fun. The night club Allegria was pretty fun too, but never advertised.

The next day- was raining in the morning so we did room service. Super Yummy and quick.

That day lunch was at Las Olas again, they had live rock music and BBQ.

That night dinner was Basmati. The nan and dipping sauces were to die for. The show was supposed to be Madonna but it was Broadway instead. Then there was a fire show which was awesome.

Our final day it was overcast again so we slept in and got room service. It cleared up so we went back to the pool. Lunch was at Oregano again, and dinner was at Agave, which was decent. Not my favorite but we live around really good Mexican and Spanish food. The show that night was Queen. Phenomenal. Best show of the week.

Our final half day was quick. Checkout was a breeze.

My must dos- hydrotherapy and massage and Mille Spa. Excellent.
Walk the beach in either direction, it’s gorgeous.
Be patient and if you know any Spanish they appreciate it.

We tipped a lot. They worked for it and everything was above and beyond. USD is king there. Bring lots of ones and fives.

My only complaint was that the gift shop girls weren’t very polite and they never asked to swap out our bottles.

Which are dumb complaints so basically- it was a perfect trip. Best staff and beautiful resort.
