We just got back from a 4 day stay at Excellence El Carmen and had a great time. From the moment we walked in and received our welcome drink and cold towel everything we needed was right there. Super G helped us get set up in our room gave us the lay of the land.

The pools and beaches are excellent and there is always a breeze. The beach did have a lot of seaweed but the water was great. Drinks and food were always easy to come by.

At night, make sure you go to the Sports Bar on the bottom level of the main building. We ended up there 3 out of our four nights. Felix and Robert behind the bar had amazing personalities and were a blast to hang out with. Wonder Boy kept everything running smoothly. Definitely one of the better bars on the property.

Overall it was a great trip and would do it again.

My Husband and I stayed at EEC for 2 weeks in July 2017 to celebrate our 13th Wedding Anniversary and were very pleased we chose this hotel. Having previously stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres and Excellence Punta we knew what to expect and were not disappointed.

We had booked a swim out room and emailed Roberto in advance to request a room in a quiet spot that gets sun for most of the day and we were allocated room 4005 which suited us. On arrival we had a bottle of sparkling wine and a plate of fruit in the room and an “Anniversary” banner on the door. We got sun on our decking from around 10.30am for the rest of the day which is just what we wanted.

We ordered room service as we were too tired to venture out on our first night and they said it would be 30 minutes. This turned up promptly and was washed down with some Presidente beers from the in room mini bar. A suitably good start to what was going to be a great holiday.

The room was kept very clean by the maids and the turn down service was a nice touch with the chocolates each night. Maybe due to the numerous cocktails prior but we didn’t find the bed uncomfortable at all. Obviously this will be personal preference – you could also request a different pillow but the ones we had were suitable for us. On one occasion our mini bar fridge was not re-stocked but a visit to Pablo in the concierge office and this was rectified.

As for the food – we didn’t have a bad meal in any of the restaurants other than a slight delay one night in Chez Isabelle when they seemed to be busier than normal. We obviously had our preferences which were The Grill and Agave; we visited both these restaurants twice during our stay.

Lots of choice for breakfast at Kitchen Table or Lobster for waiter service. Las Olas for lunch was great on the beach with different choices each day and sometimes there was a live band on. Room service was always prompt. There was also the “Shark van” that opened at 6pm for burgers etc but we never visited this.

The beach was nice for walks in either direction but just be prepared for the amount of seaweed that gets washed up. The staff did spend some time constantly cleaning this up every day.

We did the full day excursion to the capital Santo Domingo. This was a long day out but worth it if you are interested in the culture of the island and the history. Kelvin the tour guide was very knowledgeable and did the whole tour in Spanish and English.

We had a Swedish couples massage at the Spa. The massages were very relaxing and the staff there were very friendly and made you feel special. The hydrotherapy before was good fun. Look out for the daily offers that are left in your room.

We would start our evenings at the martini bar or the Sol bar for cocktails before our evening meal. The evening shows were also good in particular the circus show and the Michael Jackson show. When the show finished there was usually further entertainment at the Piano bar, where there was usually a singer or a band on so there was always something to watch.

To conclude we really enjoyed our stay at EEC, and having stayed at various all-inclusives over the past 10 years or so, including Sandals, Paradisus, Grand Bahia etc. the Excellence chain is right up there at the top of the list for us. It has a different feel and layout to Punta Cana with it being quite new and modern. EPC has a more ‘colonial’ type feel. The contrast is one to appreciate, rather than comment negatively on - as we wouldn’t want the hotels to be an exact replica of each other.

The staff are a credit to the hotel and what makes this holiday extra special and a simple greeting and a few pleasantries in Spanish will get you a response and a smile. We certainly had no issues with language barriers. We did learn a few stock phrases prior to our visit and glad we did and they really appreciate this but their English was very good. We got quite chatty with Ana and Leidy who greeted us at the Kitchen Table, they were always smiling and even personally escorted us to our table arm in arm.

Jorge who asked our names at the Oregano one night then remembered us several nights later.

It was nice to meet up with Roberto again and we were also very surprised when Victor remembered us from EPC 3 years ago.

Angel was always attentive and never failed to bring us more coffee at breakfast or beer in the evenings when he was serving at Agave one night.

Victor who waited on us at Chez Isabelle then recognised us the next morning at breakfast at Kitchen Table.

We would also like to thanks Dominicana for arranging us a table for our last meal at The Grill.

Sandy at the Martini bar made great “special icebergs” and Yesiena was always on hand to bring us refills without having to leave our seat.

Go enjoy yourselves, chill-out , don’t be impatient, relax and have a great time at a very friendly hotel. We certainly did.

We knew when we booked this resort it was still in the beginning stages and was going through some growing pains so we expected a few bumps. Upon arrival I thought it was beautiful! I loved the EC lounge location at the entrance. Being led straight there was a plus*. Being sat to side to wait then told afterwards, 'oh, no one is seeing anyone over there, come over to my desk' was a minus-. Why not let us go to the lounge area where the drinks and snacks are and come get us when you are ready? Confusing... Then we were told, 'I see you have requested Building __' No we made no requests... We just paid for EC swimup. 'Ok, you are in this Building __ Room___'. We were then shown our room and around the room. Beautiful!!! Love the size of the room and the closet! The swimup is so nice.

The positives*
swimups are beautiful
Rooms are large!
Closet space enormous
Seat to do makeup in bathroom area
Hostess at Magna and Hostess at The Kitchen Table-- these were wonderful!!!
Bartender at The Piano Bar- so funny, entertaining when you want to get away from noise
Sports Bar is a fun place
Food at Magna is good (worth the extra$$$ for EC?? - I don't think so)
Basmati- best meal

Negatives-
EC is a waste of money- anyone can go to the EC pools, EC beach, EC bars- so why did I pay for it? Magna seems to be only perk
Went on bike tour- Sexy Monkey- he called himself that- took us to the shopping mall where we were begged to buy tons of stuff.-- no that's not what I thought the tour would be-- riding down the highway to a shopping mall?- felt like he probably got a cut of all deals made- we said we didn't bring money so he said no problem he would pay and we could pay him back later.
During volleyball noticed that the activity crew never retrieved the ball... always wanted players to go get it.
So loud! Music is always loud!
Service was really slow, sat without anything to drink after getting meals at times.
Dirty dishes at meals, this was most disturbing as well as not using gloves to handle food after touching raw food to cooked food on the beach
The Kitchen Table- could not find food here- I know it was buffet, but I could not find anything hot or good
The beach concierges seemed lazy- they sat in the huts, on the ground. Not up, working, checking on anyone...
Went to the spa and was demanded by the lady that did the scalp massage 'Rena?' to put that she did a good job. So I did...My husband just filled out the circles (all that is asked on the form) and she said 'no, you put here (in the comments section) I did a good job!' Very rude!

This one is just confusing as I loved this place-
No music at Piano Bar??? What??Why??
It has a place for a Baby Grand Piano, yet no singer or Piano, or anything! Just weird...
Would I go back? No.
Should you? Maybe.. price is good, it may just suit you. I just couldn't get over the things that bothered me.

We went as a family of 8 adults. We were treated like royalty everywhere we went. We made "amigos" with many staff members. The property, rooms, pools were amazing. The restaurants served delicious food. Mildred, at beach hut was super friendly and cheerful every day. Go the Sports Cafe, Felix, the bartender was great fun and makes amazing drinks!
The shows at night were wonderful! The beach does have quite a bit of seaweed, but they do a good job trying to keep it clear. We also felt very safe here. There is so much to do here, they do a great job with organized activities.

Room Tip: We booked rooms with private pools and it was enjoyable to have our own swimming area.

My wife and I just returned on August 5th 2017 from this wonderful resort. The resort was beautiful and very clean. The staff were always their to meet every need we had. Their are so many restaurants we ate a different one every night. Our favorite one was the Magna which had great Filet Migon and Lobster. Their was never a time where food or drinks were not available. My wife made a friend with Sandy who was a bartender at the sports bar as well as the excellence club. He made the best drinks and was super helpful with all our questions. Now with all the good does come some things we wish they had done. The resort offered some activities but I would have liked to see more. For me I became bored during the day as their was nothing to do. You can only drink and eat and go to the beach so many days. The only other thing I did not understand was that all the pools closed at 6 pm. I still do not know why but if I had paid for a swim up pool I would not have been happy. It would have been nice to have been able to swim at night just to get relief from the heat. Their are lots of excursions you can do but that can run you an extra $200.00 or more every day. Like I said it is a beautiful resort and for the couple who just wants to do very little except relax it is perfect.
