Sitting on the balcony, watching time, clouds and the ocean passing by. The best place I know to be and enjoy quiet scenery and very cheerful, lovely hosts. Jossie and Jim with their animals are a lot of fun!
The rooms are large, cosy and quiet, the Wifi works well.

We stayed with Josie and Jim at the beautiful Rouden Daach B&B back in October this year and we were made very welcome. The house has been thoughtfully designed, very tastefully decorated and offers fantastic views over the ocean. All of the rooms are spacious and have desks and chairs for relaxing in. Josie's breakfast of cereal, fruit juice, crepes and coffee/tea was delicious and really set us up for the day. We were keen to see the Alpacas and were not disappointed, as our hosts were passionate about their animals. Josie uses the wool from their alpacas for knitting and is learning new crafts all the time. The dogs, Stanley, Bo, and the girls are very friendly and just complete the stay at this stunning B&B. We highly recommend a stay at Rouden Daach.

The house, the animals, the beach, the drive there, the view. Wow wow wow.
I have stayed at Rouden Daach twice and always long to go back. The rooms are beautiful and so clean. Josée is a very talented cook and her crêpes are worthy of a Parisian restaurant.
I recommend this bed & breakfast to everyone. Josée is passionate about everything she does and I guarantee that you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: All rooms are equally wonderful, it just depends how many people are in your party.

This is an amazing Bed and Breakfast. The hosts Josie and Jim make you feel at home and are very friendly. The dinner was wonderful and the breakfast was outstanding. For breakfast, we were served numerous French Crepes, cereal, coffee, etc. We were offered all the rooms in the house, even though we only had 3 people. The house is custom built and one of a kind. They even have Alpaca's and sell Alpaca fur. The 4 dogs are very nice and make the stay very interesting. The house is overlooking the beach and the sunset is simply breathtaking. This B&B is highly recommended!

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice.

We picked this B&B as a good stopover point on our tour of Nova Scotia. It turned out to be worth a visit for its own sake.

An unfortunate highway-repair detour left us thoroughly lost at the end of a long day, and we called Josie and Jim to cancel. But she gave us clear directions on another route, and promised us a good dinner. We arrived without further problems, and the dinner promise was more than fulfilled: great food, good company, and excellent conversation. We loved the four dogs, especially the gentle giant Stanley.

We had the excellent big room over the garage, and in the morning we learned more about the house. Josie had wanted an energy-efficient, environmentally sensitive building, so the walls are double-thick and windows are triple-glazed. A single fireplace heats the house, including under-floor hot-water pipes. Solar panels on the garage roof help out. The main part of the house includes several other bedrooms and a lot of windows: Even on a grey morning, the house was bright and airy.

The Red Roof also includes its own herd of alpacas, who seem quite comfortable to be living on the shores of Northumberland Strait. The dogs and alpacas get along well.

The house is clearly a well-thought-out experiment in environmentally responsible living, and it would be worth a visit even if it weren't also a first-class B&B.

Bear in mind that the Red Roof is some distance from Antigonish and New Glasgow, the nearest towns, so if you reserve here you should ask for dinner as well (it's just a few dollars more, and well worth it). This was one of the best places we stayed in during our ten-day tour, and we highly recommend it.

Room Tip: All rooms look good. Ours had excellent bathroom downstairs.

We stayed at the Rouden Daach B&B on one of our last days in Nova Scotia. After quite a long drive from Louisbourg, it was nice to find this great place to stay. Our hosts Josie and Jim welcomed us as we pulled up. By the way, you can spot this inn from a couple of km away. The distinctive red roof was very easy to spot.

After we got squared away, we got a chance to look around the property and were most pleasantly surprised at the four very friendly dogs and the eight alpacas. Josie gave us a good education about raising alpacas and their even demeanor matched their cute faces.

During our two week trip in Nova Scotia, we had stayed in a few b&b's, most of which were built in the late 1800s. Although nice and quaint, it was nice to stay in this b&b where Josie was responsible for the design. Embedded in the design was a central fireplace that heated the entire house from top to bottom. Also incorporated were solar panels that provided hot water as well as some that generated electricity. All of this was designed to keep the b&b warm in winter, give plenty of hot water to its guests and provide supplemental electricity. It was the first time that I had ever seen a house that had double thickness exterior walls (18") and triple glazed windows to help insulate the house in winter (where I understand it can be brutal). I applaud the efforts that Josie had gone to to make such an energy efficient inn.

Our room was over the garage and was extremely spacious. Our bathroom was one floor down and was not a problem. We were almost self-contained in our space. The next morning we had breakfast in the main eating area where Josie made us crepes with fresh fruit, coffee and juice.

All in all, this was a most comfortable stay and our hosts, Josie and Jim were most accommodating. This is one inn that I would definitely stay at again if ever passing by the area near Antigonish.
