We recently got back from our honeymoon and the resort was amazing. There were many options for meals and drinks. The food overall was good, we did go back to the same resturants a few nights because we loved the food. Our room were very nice, we had upgraded to the Emerald Suites which had a full size jacuzzi and was close to the beach and pool. The pool area is beautiful and has two big swin up bars and is a very large pool area and doesn't get crowded at all. All the staff were very friendly. We were a little upset because we had signed up as we were told to release the sea turtles but were never called. We then found out the day before we left that anyone could just to the beach at the set time and they did that every night. Also the beer isn't served cold (which we beileve was just their culture) and they don't give you wash towels everyday (will need to ask for them). Overall the grounds are amazing and the walk to and from your room to the resturants isn't bad, and they have carts driving around that will stop and take you to where you need to go. It was a hassle to use the internet as there is only wi-fi in the lobby. They do offer a cord to use in the room if you bring your computer, but we only had our iPad so we had to make special trips to use the internet. There are so many more positive things about the resort the small incoviences are nothing. We are already looking at going back next year!

We came to the VIM to celebrate my 60th birthday and we were not disappointed! Our last two stays, we paid to stay in the Emerald Suites and were placed in Buildings 13 and 14 on the second floor with a view of the ocean. We LOVED these rooms! This time we just took the deluxe junior suite and saved about $500. We were placed in Building 5, which is right close to Buildings 13 and 14 and right beside the breakfast/lunch outdoor restaurant. We spend the day out on the beach down at the end of the property by Building 9 and so it was a walk - but with all the good food and drinks - you need to walk a LOT to keep off the pounds! The difference in the nicer rooms was that you only have one sink in the bathroom - having two sinks in the Emerald Suites was nice! Also, there is only a glass door in the bathroom leading in to the bathroom stall with the commode so if you want privacy - book a nicer room! The jacuzzi is not as large or as nice either.
We didn't get any turn down service 4 of the 7 nights that we were there. The maid cleaned in the morning the first day, but the other days, it was later in the afternoon before our room was cleaned. The weather was beautiful even with a few days of sprinkles - they were usually at night. We saw where several sea turtles came in an and laid their eggs - that was awesome! The Grey Goose vodka poured freely this time - none of the bars ran out of it like the last two stays!
Overall, we LOVE this resort and hope to come back soon!

Room Tip: Always choose the highest floor if you don't want folks coming in in th middle of the night - sl...

we have stayed at several locations in mexico and in Dominican republic always all exclusive and valentin by far was the best location, food, service and amenities. we couldn't believe the service and overall quality of the hotel. we stayed the week of 8/4 to 8/10 the weather was great a few showers.

the hotel is awesome it is spread out a bit and built into the mangrove forest, which we think gave it a much more private feel, the grounds are kept immaculate including the pools and beach, they actually rake and sift the sand each morning and the water was great for swimming I was in the water more this year than all our trips combined. we did notice that there were no floats provided luckily we had brought our own as suggested. swimway spring floats papasan style were awesome
we had a deluxe junior which was huge and had a huge balcony (building 3) it was cleaned every day and anything we needed including a clock for me was provided. it was our 14th ann. which I didn't mention on the reservation but they still set us up with champagne, cake and a beautiful towel animal display.

the food was great the breakfast buffet was always fresh and had a large variety, lunch buffet was varied enough you didn't get tired of it and was so much better than any other A.I. we have ever been at. the evening meals we had were Indonesian twice (wife loved the pad thai) French, steak house, tapen yaki one night (awesome show and food) and Italian. the Italian was our least favorite but I would go back and order something different. we tried many different items that we would never had otherwise, even got the wife to try squid which she liked!

the bars were plentiful and always had happy tenders that would make anything you asked even if you had to explain it. the top shelf booze is there and yes you do have to ask for it but don't you do the same thing at the local bar? J.D. and ginger ale , grey goose martini etc... they even had infused tequilas my favorite was the anise which I am trying to duplicate with Jack Daniels.

the entertainment was good though it was very loud for the small area that they had it in in fact so loud we left early several nights. this would be the one downside to the trip hopefully they will lower the volume level a few notches by our next trip. the shows and buffets set up on the Caribbean night and the Mexican night were great.

Room Tip: building 3 is centrally located and not to far of a walk to anything

The Good: The moment we walked into the lobby to check in we were offered a drink and were able to check in right away. We decided to upgrade to the Emerald suite. Great decision on our part. We loved the huge jacuzzi in the room. As it turned out it rained most of the week but since we had the jacuzzi we didn't mind as much. Our room was quite a hike to the lobby so we used the shuttle service. We didn't have any problems and didn't have to wait long. We used room service a lot with the rain and it was great. I honestly preferred the room service food for breakfast and lunch over the buffets. It really was good.

The Bad: We liked the food at the restaurants. Ginger was our favorite. However I wish I could say the same about the service. Ginger was fine since we sat at the table where they cook the food. We ate at the steakhouse, Mexican and Italian. It seems the wait staff was overworked and could not handle the number of tables assigned to them. The worst was the Mexican restaurant. We sat there for a long time before our waiter acknowledged our existence. Once we got service it was fine but everything took a long time. Maybe that is why we had an hour wait for the Mexican and Italian even though we went around 9:00 p.m.

The only other complaint was that we asked to have our room cleaned at a certain time and it didn't get done. We had enough towels so we were okay. Not too big of a deal.

Overall: We really liked the resort and plan to go again. Hopefully they will hire more wait staff by then.

Room Tip: We stayed in building 13 on the second floor and it was close to the beach and pool. Plan to take a...

I researched for a very long time and decided on this for our honeymoon. I've read the bad reviews and you have to take that with a grain of salt because we had an amazing time. We had an amazing time in the Riviera Maya, we stayed 5 nights in the silver junior suite Aug 12-17 for a very good value of 150/pp per day. I would recommend Riviera Maya over Cancun proper because you still get the beautiful beaches but you are much closer to all the tour excursions that are a must do. I would recommend this to anyone! The beach is beautiful, clear water and white sand, there was always palapas at the beach and chairs by the pool available, the pool is amazing as well. All the food was awesome and the restaurants were really good, our favorite was the French restaurant and the international buffet for lunch. Remember to the dress code appropriate attire for dinner. Our suite was in building 2 and close to the pool and restaurants. We loved our suite and used the Jacuzzi tub every night it was awesome! The only down side is the toilet is open and a little awkward and the bed was a little hard but we still slept very well. We felt really safe, and wished we brought our phones and rings once we got there nothing got stolen from our safe or our room, I even left my Ipod out and it was fine. Everyone was really nice and they took very good care of us. The crowd was mixed, 20's to middle aged and some older couples. We went on a couple of awesome excursions, saw sea turtles in Akumal, went to Tulum, went to the cenotes, and Xel Ha I would recommend all of them as your are so close to them in the Riviera Maya. We loved our vacation, the hotel is wonderful and they take very good care of our guests our last day they had a room for our luggage and complementary rooms to use while you wait for your flight after you check out so its like you get an extra day as you can eat and drink and use all the hotel amenities as well after you check out. The resort had so many activities we could of just stayed there it was a beautiful honeymoon!

Room Tip: Silver Junior Suite, building 2 is very close to the pool and restaurants

Stayed here for week, first week in August. The hotel didn't know we were on our honeymoon so the first night we were in a room with 2 single beds in block 3. Room was ok, wasn't blown away considering we were meant to be in 'paradise' we ate breakfast in la hacienda. Good choice of food, you can sit outside or in the aircon. Staff failed to turn up with my drink some days. We were moved on the 2nd day to room 2121, block 2 near the pool and close to the restaurants and lobby. Room had a double bed, large bathroom and a constant smell of drains plus an array of beetles and spiders as the week went by. I suppose you should expect that if your on the ground floor facing the garden. Whoever thought that putting wooden furniture on a tiled floor was a good idea is stupid! There is nothing more annoying than hearing the constant scape of furniture late at night and I also think we had a heard of elephants in the room above because they were SO noisy. Can't say I fully enjoyed any of the food as from the 2nd night to the last I had an upset stomach and was sick, I must of ate something that didn't agree with me. It made the whole trip very uncomfortable. We had a leak in our room, we returned from the pool one day to see water dripping through the light into the bath and also where the toilet was. The queuing for the restaurants and the hour wait is a bit annoying especially in the Italian. You can sit in the square but the 'singer' they have on is shocking. Restaurants are all ok, good choice on the menu and much nicer than using for a buffet. The pool area is nice, plenty of beds. The bar gets busy but I think they serve you as quick as they can. I was expecting a lot of Mexico but I spent most of my time in the bathroom, for this reason I wouldn't go again. When we got back everything in my suitcase stunk of the smell of our room. This hotel isn't luxury, I firmly believe there's better out there.
