Second time we visited this resort, this year we paid more, and we asked if we could have the same room as last year as it had a nice view of the ocean, that room was taken, but the one next to it was available the next day and we could move for an extra $200, Umm, we did, and it may have been pricy, but we ate breakfast everyday on the balcony and watched the Hugh Cruse ships float by, building 2, room 304 by the way. The room service was very timely, you order breakfast for 6:30 and you could set you watch by their arrivial, hot food was hot and cold was cold.
The shower drain was plugged, so we called, and the maintenance came within minutes, unplugged the drain and cleaned up. The bed was made and room cleaned everyday, the maid turned down our bed, and at times left some sweets, nice touch, mind you we Tip, even the Plummer, only a buck, but they are always greatful.
Drinks were good, mind you the smaller, quieter, Silver Pool played second fiddle to the crowed Main Pool, that lonely Pool Server was run off her feet, I usually walked to the bar and ordered every 2nd or 3rd drink myself.
The Floats remain a problem, the staff are constantly pulling the floats from under the lounge chairs as guests treat them like they OWN them, it is well posted the floats are to remain in the pool, but it would appear some ignore this rule. We bring our own blow up floats, the staff will blow them up for you. There was an ugly incident at the Silver Pool when some young girls came from the Main pool and fished the floats out to take them back to the main pool, an elderly gentleman asked them to leave the floats in the pool for our use, there was only 4 floats in the Silver Pool, they had an ugly verbal exchange, the girls scooped up the floats hurled a few insults and made their way back to the main pool. I ventured over to the main pool and counted 42 floats stuffed under lounge chairs not being used, I guess it's safer to pick on the elderly then some young tuff guy with a Floaty. Valentin, you should address this before they pick on the wrong Senior.
The Mexician Night was fun, food was good, entertainment was Great, the Vino Tinto flowed, the only problem, again, were the people who sat at the tables, finished their meals and stayed seated all nigh while everyone else was forced to stand and eat, or eat off their laps, I didn't check but I suspect they had Floats stuffed under their chairs, come on people stop being so selfish.
And speaking of selfish people, I wittnessed on several occasions guests coming into the restaurant by the ocean using the enterance by the bathrooms, bypassing the line up and seating themselves, I guess they couldn't be bothered standing in the line up like the rest of the Guests, enduring the Floaty separation angzity, probably too much for them to do the proper thing, best to jump the line and hurry back before some old folks steal your Floaty.
Lets see, the Pellet Shooting was fun, we did it everyday at 11AM, and the Spanish Lessons were also fun, as were the Bike Tours, you meet sober folks at these events, mainly because they are help in the AM.
All in All we had a wonderful time, managed to meet some great people, exchange life stories, I read a few books, was never hungary, and drank plenty of Vino Tinto and coffee. We took a cab into town, $30 each way, plus a tip, ate dinner and wondered around.
I tip everyone, even the guiy who unplugged the shower drain, the maid, the seater, the waitresses, I get a bunch of $1 bills before we leave and hand them out, not much to us, but they always say Thankyou, and we wanted for nothing, I must admit I get something out of tipping as well, it makes me feel Good. Enjoy the Valentin, and don't let the few rude sorts rob you of your well earned vacation, enjoy, we did.

Room Tip: Bring your own Float, Tip what you can afford, explore the grounds, and above all have enjoy yourself.

We recently returned from a week long trip to the VIM (2/14-2/20). It was our first trip to the Maya Riviera and we couldn't have been more satisfied. The hotel was beautifully run, staff genuinely pleased to serve, grounds are lovely with all sorts of wonderful bird and animal life to enjoy. Ridiculous and quite good variety of food availlable at all hours. Beach was lovely. We also had a good experience with the official hotel tour company (Best Day), which arranged tours to Chichen Itza and Tulum/Akumal. We especially enjoyed our snorkeling trip to Akumal, where we got to see 2 sea turtles. I enjoyed the spa and yoga/fitness classes, husband enjoyed beach volleyball. All in all a wonderful trip and hope to go again in the future.

Room Tip: Building 3 was quiet and close to all the restaurants and lobby

We just returned from our eight night honeymoon at VIM (2/22 - 3/2). This was the first all-inclusive resort for both of us, and we enjoyed our stay and the resort. We purchased a deal through an online sale site, and I was worried that our service might have been impacted because of it. Not at ALL. Every person we interacted with on staff was super friendly, helpful and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Some favorites that stood out were Ivan at the beach restaurant, and Jorge the bellman.

Check-in was a breeze...we were given both the cool towel and chilled sparkling wine. I had emailed the resort in November requesting a King bed, and then called a couple of days before to make sure of it. They did not have one in the room type I had upgraded to, so we had to stay in a room with two beds the first night. Not ideal, but not a big deal either. The "honeymoon" banner on our door, chilled sparkling wine, fruit basket, and rose petals acknowledging our honeymoon were nice touches and appreciated. Our first room did smell a little musty, but not horribly so. The room we switched to in Building 6 (golden swim-up suite) was awesome. The building itself was centrally located to the beach, restaurants and lobby. The room was large, very clean and in a quiet setting. You could walk out your door and have access to two lounge chairs and a quiet pool. We appreciated this option since it was so hot and humid (87 avg each day we were there) and it was nice to jump in and cool off whenever we felt like it. Yes, I could hear the people above me a bit, but what can you expect? They are walking around and enjoying their vacation too!

The beach was beautiful and not rocky...all the reviews that say it was too rocky to swim...I don't understand them at all. The only thing that could possibly prevent swimming was the rough surf, but the water was warm, teal and beautiful. There are also these cool fish that you can feed...grab a slice of fresh bread from the breakfast buffet. They will eat it right from your hand! It was pretty breezy while we were there, but it was a nice warm breeze that prevented you from cooking in the sun. You definitely need to reserve a palapa early if you wanted shade (thanks Levi!), I'd say by 7:30am or so. It was well worth getting up early to reserve one. Same at the main pool...lots of great people watching, games and two swim up bars.

The food quality was what we were most concerned with before we went, but everything ended up being pretty good. Breakfast and lunch buffets had a ton of variety and something for everyone. We thought the beach restaurant had better breakfast and Le Marche was better for lunch. There was plenty of fresh fruit and "American" favorites at every meal. The omelet station was great, fish dishes and daily roasted meats delicious and overall we were pleasantly surprised. Each day is a different theme for lunch - Asian, American, Mexican, etc. Try the coconut ice cream at Le Marche at lunch - to die for! We tried all of the restaurants except the French restaurant and they were decent. We went to the Italian (great beef carpaccio and arugula salad) and Japanese restaurants twice (hibachi shrimp was great, as was the steak). We are foodies, but not food snobs, and were happy with our meals. Room service was prompt, plentiful and good. Try the American breakfast and chicken fajita!

Excursions and stuff to do - we booked a snorkeling trip through the resort for $80USD for both of us...about an hour of snorkeling in nearby Puerto Morales and thought that was fun. We also took a cab for $40USD round trip to Playa and did some shopping on 5th. Be prepared to haggle and we thought stuff was pretty expensive...for some reason we thought we'd get better deals in Mexico...not so.

Overall, we would return to VIM again. We met a few really cool couples who we will most likely stay in touch with and had a blast. It was our first time to this area in Mexico, and we didn't really feel the need to go off property. We were content to lay around, soak up the sun, eat a lot and have yummy drinks when we felt like it. If that's what you're looking for, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Bring lots of $1 bills for tipping, sunscreen and an insulated drink cup. Building 6 was centrally located and the Golden Swim Up Suite was fantastic!

We went to the VIM Jan. 24-31. First let me say that me and my wife are ham and eggers. We like to have fun and don't let anything bother us while on vacation. Im going to try and keep it brief because if you read most of the reviews there all pretty much the same besides the complainers.
The food here is really good. As long as you stick with the fresh stuff. The buffet stands at lunch are not the best. most of the food is cold and over cooked, but the fresh fish and pasta cooked to order is awesome. Fresh crepes at breakfast were awesome too. The dinner menus are big enough so u should be able to find something you like unless you are really picky. I loved the pad Thai at the indonesian restaurant. We ate at all the restaurants and all were good. The steak house was the worst in my book, but still good. The steak isn't the greatest but your in mexico right. Thats to be expected. We have been to the Iberostar Tucan resort 3 times before coming here and we thought that place was great until we came here. The food here blows away Iberostars food. So like i said stick to the fresh cooked food and you should love it. The beach is nice but it is hard to get one of those huts for shade. Also be careful in the ocean because there are riptides pretty often once you get out past your waist. I don't know if it was because of how bad the weather was that week or if thats normal there. So if your not a strong swimmer be careful. Also bring some bread with you to the beach and through it in the shallows and a ton of fish will swarm you. Its pretty cool. You can even feed them by hand. Really can't comment on the pool. We are beach people. The only problems i had with the hotel was the entertainment and location. The entertainment was not bad it was just that every time the party got going it switched to another location and was of a different form. Its on a tight schedule seems 1-2 hours long and then you have to go find something else. We still had a blast though. Hope you like techno, thats always the last thing going even though its supposed to be a DJ. They don't take requests, they pretty much play what they want. At least for us they didnt. The location is fine if you don't want to leave the hotel. If you do its very spendy. To go into playa is $40 one way with a taxi. If you do an excursion though they come and pick you up so that's not bad. So as long as you don't want to roam around the cities the location won't bother you. The grounds are pretty big, but should't be a problem for anyone unless you have trouble walking. Plus there are carts always going by that you can catch a ride on. One thing we found out thats not mentioned in the reviews that i read is that there are 3 different maids that work your room at different times. 1st maid in the morning pretty much cleans up everything so tip her the most. 2nd just restocks the fridge in the afternoon. 3rd is turn down service. All did a great job for us. We stayed in a regular room in building 4 and loved it and the location. Its pretty central. If you like to nit pick you can find small things to complaine about, like not getting a 3rd floor room like we requested (you really can hear everything going on above you) but like i said we don't let little stuff ruin our vacations. Over all we really liked this place and would come back for sure. Think this place would be great for a big group of friends. Everyone we talked to while down there also loved it.
P.S. watch out for channel 48 on the T.V. lol.

Room Tip: 3rd floor so you don't hear the people above you. Regular rooms were awesome and big and centrally located.

Went to VIM Feb 24-Mar 1.This place was unbelievable! My wife and I were looking for a place to celebrate our 5th anniversary, as well as the honeymoon we never took. We found out that our good friends were also looking to go somewhere, so we decided to go together. Came across VIM in online search with Funjet, carefully studied the reviews, and decided to go for it. Wow! We were absolutely blown away with the architecture, landscaping, groundskeeping, and rooms. We've all been places where the photos look nothing like the real thing -- but this was NOT one of those. It is even more impressive in person. And even with all of that, the best part of staying there was the staff. They were so friendly and willing to help -- smiling and cheerful. We ordered from their 24 hr room service late at night a couple times (which by the way is wonderful -- knowing that you can get a good warm meal 24/7), and the service was prompt, polite, and very friendly. I had seen mixed reviews about the food, but overall I would call it very good. The two ladies in our group are fairly picky eaters, and they were always able to find something on the buffet (or menu) that they liked. The beach was beautiful with white sand and large swimming area. Wait staff came around every once in a while, or you could go about 50 yards to the beach bar. Most days were a little more breezy than we liked, but it didn't keep us from lounging out there. A short walk, and you were back at the pool where it was more calm. The huge pool was very nice, with two swim up bars and any drink you could imagine. We spent a lot of time there, and met four other couples that we hung out with a lot. Now....many on here have said it, but the big complaint really is the system (or lack thereof) of reserving chaise lounge chairs and the pool floaties. I felt like it was a bunch of kindergarten kids......getting down the the pool at 6:00 a.m. to leave nothing but a book to reserve their spot. And the frustrating part.....many of them didn't spend much time there. As for the floaties....people would basically claim them in the early morning, and never give them up the whole day even when not in use. I don't have the answer to recommend to VIM, but I would recommend this. They do need to figure out a way to police use of the chairs -- such as not allowing unattending reserving of chairs until later in the day (such as 10:00 am). If it wasn't for the pool/chair thing, we couldn't think of a single thing we were unhappy with. We cannot wait for the next chance to go back to VIM -- we got so attached to the place and the people that we were a little sad to leave. Have no reservations about going here.....book it now!!!!
