We choose this hotel for our June 2011 honeymoon because we wanted an all-inclusive adults only resort in Riviera Maya and this seemed like the best choice.
We arrived in the middle of the night because our flight was delayed, and still treated like royalty with a glass of champagne and a drive to our room. We spent most of our days in the HUGE pool and at the swim up bar because the bartenders were great and there's where people seemed to socialize most. There was an entertainment staff there every afternoon with games and music, so it was always a fun time. The beach was nice also, but we preferred the pool most days.
The buffet was pretty good food, kind of repetitive though. We ate at both the Japanese and Steak restaurant and both were very good. We also went to a themed dinner show which was entertaining. We ordered room service a couple of nights and even that food was delicious. One small issue we had one day was the room service breakfast we ordered one day sent the wrong style of eggs, and didn't come back till an hour later while we were in the shower so it was somewhat embarrassing. They ended up sending a bottle of wine to our room to make up for it though.
The rooms were very nice and large, especially the bathrooms! The only complaint was that the in room refrigerator wasn't very cold, but other people there had the same problem and it was the same way at another resort we've stayed it. I think that's just normal but it's something that drives me crazy when I want ice water in the middle of the night!
We also got a spa treatment one day. We were scheduled for a body scrub, facial, and massage but my husband got sunburned so they switched his scrub to a longer massage. I think we paid about 300$ so it was pretty expensive, but we figured it was worth is since it was our honeymoon.
This resort was hands down the favorite place my husband and I have stayed yet. The staff is so friendly and you could easily enjoy your visit without even having to leave the resort. We're already planning our trip back!

I went to the Valentin this past June and loved it so much I went back this November to celebrate my birthday!!!
This place rocks....they treat you like Royalty!! I have gotten the "Privilege" package both times and will continue to get that. The "Privilege" package is alot of extra little perks that you soon come to enjoy!! Like having reservations for dinner where other people wait on a first come first served basis. Having a bottle of champagne, flowers and fruit tray in your room, upon arrival. Having reserved spots at either the pool or the beach. This one is especially handy during peak season. I will be going back next June and again next November and who knows? Maybe I can squeeze another trip in between those two.
Kudos to all the staff who are super friendly and helpful but ESPECIALLY the Concierge personnel Angelica, Joselo, Oscar and Miguel and to Alberto Perez!!!
These people make the hotel even more enjoyable!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool near the main pool and you will not have far to walk. That would be either building 5...

Went to the Valentin for the 2nd time. We had an AMAZING time! Noticed some small improvements from our last visit, such as refurbished pool chairs and new beach towels, which were great. The staff as usual was very friendly and helpful. A few standouts were Jose Luis at Mar/Tierra, Nallaly (spelling?) at LL Olivo and Sergio who brought drinks at the main pool. Service was just impeccable. A great experience. We wish we were still there!

Room Tip: Stayed in Building 3 - was convenient to main building/restaurants and pool/beach. Last year stayed...

What a wonderful resort! Loved the location, the activities and the staff was great! I would recommend this resort to EVERYONE! It really is as wonderful as everyone says. We enjoyed the beach volleyball everyday and the night life was really fun. It had a huge variety of activities and each one was great. We thought this was PARADISE!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Jr Suite and it was PERFECT!

Stayed 5 days/4 nights on November 2012. Travelled with friend and booked two golden junior suites (swim-up and 3rd floor) in building 6.

Positives:
- close to airport. About 20 minutes drive by taxi or car.
- clean, spacious, modern rooms.
- exceptional service. The Privilege upgrade package was a nice touch.
- well designed resort property and convenient placement of facilities.
- twice daily maid service.
- most buildings have free Internet and wi-fi.

Negatives:
- restaurant menus are fixed and do not change. For example, the Japanese restaurant will have the same menu every day. If you are staying one week and less this is not a problem but may feel repetitious for longer stays.

Some Advice:
- golden junior suites (all located in buildings 6, 7, and 8) are highly recommended. There are better suite categories---emerald, diamond, and imperial---but having seen them, probably not worth the extra cost. For example, emerald suites are slightly smaller and though beachfront, few have a good oceanview.
- bring comfortable walking shoes or sandals. There appear to be only two or three electric carts for the entire property and you will be walking to most destinations.
- room service takes about 30 minutes.
- upgrade to the Privilege package during the busy season. Restaurants do not require reservations but you will be waiting up to 45 minutes during peak times. As a Privilege member, you will always have a reserved table waiting for you.

Overall, the Valentin Imperial Maya exceeded our expectations of accomodations and service!

Room Tip: Golden junior suites on the 3rd floor are great for view and quiet. Rooms DO differ in layout (some...

We stayed at the Valentin Nov. 14 - 21, 2012. We are experienced Mexico travelers with > 18 trips to the area. This was our first "Adults only" vacation. We usually stay at Mega resorts or wherever the AI deal is, so we have only this basis for comparison.

GROUNDS & PUBLIC AREAS: The Valentin was stunning. By far the most beautiful resort we have stayed at (so far). The scale of the main lobby was simply grand. The gardeners or yards crew are the real heroes of this resort. It was so well kept, integrated mature flora & fauna without the "paved paradise" feeling. The architecture was beautiful. The attention to detail showed. Truly lovely in every sense. We enjoyed romantic walks under the stars most evenings - it was just too beautiful to miss. A great vacation memory to take home. The daily flyer in your door in the evening was a nice touch to let you know what shows were and what restaurants were closed the next day.

ROOMS: Our room was a ground floor unit in building 4. It was well appointed and just plain lovely. King size bed, great shower and tub, plenty of space, lots of creature comforts such as bath robes, slippers, iron, board, well stocked fridge, and even a bathroom weigh scale to keep you on track. We had two items requiring maintenance (toilet & blown light bulb), both remedied. We loved the location of building 4. It was central to most things. We enjoyed nightly turn down service, fresh towels, bottled water on nightstands, and music on in the room. Housekeeping did a great job - but we never saw towel art or flower petals all week! (Yes - we tip daily, and we have always received these touches at most of the other resorts we have visited.) I loved the oatmeal soap, I brought my own shampoo & conditioner, but I didn't hate the smell of the provided organic bee stuff. It does a great job of cleaning sunglasses. I actually brought a bottle home with me for future sunglass cleaning.

BEACH: Great beach for walking in either direction - especially in the early morning. Nice white 'fluffy' sand. One rock free area for swimming, the rest of the beach was rocky. A nice beach bar with rope swings. We found that for the size of the beach and the different coves it was needing another bar & restroom facility. We are morning people so we had no issues getting loungers or shade under a palapa.

POOLS: Both pools were beautiful, but we spent most of our time near the main pool. The water was a chilly 78F. We never bothered to try to get a floatie. The water was too cold for lounging in. I would jump in, get cool and get out quickly. Getting loungers was easy most days with only 2 days of "towel games" by the patrons. Beach loungers were taken earlier than pool loungers. Fresh towels were always available. Pool service was good. Ivan kept my pina coladas coming, and he was a pleasure to chat with. He works very hard. My only real complaint about Valentin was the terrible rap/hip hop "F-bomb" music being played daily at the main pool - I did not expect this from an upscale resort. Everyone we spoke to felt the same way. They played some good tracks, but every afternoon - it was back to the same disrespectful "F-bomb" crap - They have clearly missed the mark on this one. Watch how the pool atmosphere changes when this plays for ~15 min. Please consider beach party type music or popular top 40 music that would appeal to most on vacation. When I hear a song such as Azul Azul's "Sexy" - it brings out happy vacation memories. Hateful songs about M- F'ers, beotches, or the N word don't trigger happy warm feelings for me.

FOOD: Great food. We ate at the French, Italian, Japanese, Steak house, Sushi Bar. I liked the Italian best - the bruschetta was fabulous and Hubby liked the Steak house mixed grill best. Our Chateaubriand at the French was inedible rubber - the toughest beef ever, but the grouper, crème brulee & flambé crepes Suzette more than made up for it. We thoroughly enjoyed the crepes in the morning buffet - absolutely yummy. Another personal favorite was the fresh made in front of you fajitas at the main lunch buffet. Lots of fresh seafood daily, and don't forget the coconut ice cream. The carving station was nice. The prosciutto station was interesting but the hoof was too visual for my tastes - hubby loved it. We used room service twice with very punctual, positive experiences both in the evening and in the morning. Yes - we gained a bit of weight! The live sax player in the morning buffet was a lovely touch and soooo much more upscale than the afore mentioned rap music at the main pool. We frequented the sushi bar most evenings - it was a great 'stand apart' aspect to this resort. We thoroughly enjoyed its atmosphere, and server Lourdes was our favorite. She was friendly, fun and we wish her all the best with her next baby.

ENTERTAINMENT: Day time - It was minimal at best - and just how we like it. The only place we heard the 'Idiot mating call' of "OOOhh OOOhh" was at the hibachi in the Japanese restaurant. In the evenings there were 3 nights with local vendors, music and dancing in the center, and a nice vibe. The wifi was great in the main lobby. It was a $60 round trip taxi ride to Playa - which got expensive with 3 trips. We did 3 excursions (Cozumel, Fishing, and Playa del Carmen)

Would we return? Yes in a heartbeat! Check out my attached photos.

Room Tip: Building 4 or 5 are centrally located for good rooms.
