We just got back from our 4th trip to the VMI and once again this place is the best resort we have found yet. The price is right and the staff are just the best people you would want to meet. The bar managers, Edgar and Fernando, are excellent and do a great job. They have added some neat ideas to the place - like sushi in one of the bars and have a great Privilege Package. The rooms are clean and very nice. Pools are great and so is the beach. Can't wait to go back in June.

We just got back from our second vacation at the Valentin Imperial Maya and we were not disappointed. It was just as wonderful as last year. We upgraded to Gold for a minimal charge and were so glad we did. We loved our Silver Jr Suite last year, but the Gold suite was FABULOUS!. We had a view of the lazy river and the lagoon from our balcony. The food was excellent - favourites were the Italian, Mexican & Japanese, but we weren't disappointed at any of the restaurants.

The staff is what really makes this resort, though. Mayra was always smiling and friendly at the pool and ran her butt off bringing everyone their drinks. Christian and Pamela and the Entertainment team were great. Tom says he's keeping his eye on you, Christian! The only thing missing from last year were the afternoon snacks by the pool, which we did really miss.

We will be back!

Room Tip: There isn't a bad room at this place.

We have visited this area each year and previously stayed at Secrets Capri. Last year a couple we met there recommended Valentin Imperial Maya. We booked the Privileges Package. We really liked the Privileges Package which included a reserved lounge at the pool and access to the Privileges Lounge. Our room was outstanding, far nicer than at Secrets. We loved all the Privileges amenities.
We were disappointed by some of the food. One morning the pancakes and french toast were cold. Another morning the scrambled eggs were cold. Our best food experience was sitting at the Hibachi Table at the Japanese restaurant. The food was excellent and the group from Quebec were great company.
We liked the spa here, but it does not compare to the spa at Secrets Capri.
Like every Mexican resort, the staff makes the experience memorable. That was certainly true here. Jacob, our bellman showed us around when we arrived and took wonderful care of us. The staff at the Privileges Lounge were outstanding.
We would come back again and hope the breakfast items will be warm then.

Went in august for 10 days. Loved every minute. I think I would have gone crazy without the entertainment crew. The wife can just sit on the beach all day but I cant sit still for long....They kept me busy. drinks were top shelf and done your way.

I stayed in the ocean view room on the beach and it was awesome! Originally we booked the swim up room, but we were thankful that we got upgraded as the beach rooms had a jacuzzi, and more privacy. Highly recommended!

The food was OK and could be improved, but there are lots of options. The Mar and Tierra restaurants have the perfect setting.

Very relaxing and romantic! The main pool has a bit of party atmosphere if you are looking for that...

Room Tip: Get the ground floor beach rooms.

We stayed at The Valentin for our honeymoon from Nov 14th - 21st and it was AMAZING!!! The food was fabulous, the entertainment was great, and the experience was excellent!

ROOM - We stayed in an Emerald Suite in building 10 and our room was very nice. We LOVED the his and hers sinks! Our jacuzzi didn't work because the plug didn't hold the water in, but we didn't really care. Why do you need a hot jacuzzi when it's 85 degrees out anyways??? The sheets felt a bit damp at times due to the humidity and the AC in the room could have been a touch cooler, but I believe that could have been taken care of if we had ask, which we didn't, so that's our fault.

FOOD – All of the food we ate was wonderful, with the exception of room service pizza. The pizza was okay, but not that great. The breakfast and lunch buffets were excellent. We had fresh omelets almost every morning and chips with pico & guac at lunch every afternoon. I thought all the food was fresh and there was definitely something for everyone. We ate at the Steak House, Japanese, and Italian restaurants and they were all delicious too. I definitely recommend the flank steak at the Steak House and chicken and spinach cannelloni at the Italian...superb!! Keep in mind, each night there’s at least one restaurant closed but on Saturday there were three closed so the wait was 45 mins, which was a little longer than usually

POOL – We’re pool people, so I don’t really have anything to say about the beach, but the pool was a lot of fun. At the main pool they had music playing most of the time and there was usually something going on that you could watch or participate in, like volleyball, water aerobics, or crazy pool games. Some of the entertainment staff even did dances every once in a while. The pool was enormous so there are also parts of the main pool that are quiet if you'd rather relax. I read other reviews that complained about missing tiles at the pool and yes, if you REALLY look for them, they're there, but is inspecting the pool really what you do with your vacation?!?! If you're soaking up the sun and having a good time with the people you came with, then you won't even notice

ENTERTAINMENT – During the day there was the entertainment that I mentioned by the pool and they also had a different activity at 2pm each day…the only one we went to was the Cooking Lesson where we learned to make guacamole…I also wanted to go on the kitchen tour but they must have started at exactly 2pm because we were 2 mins late and there was no one in the meeting spot. We went to most of the nightly shows (Michael Jackson, International, Las Vegas, and Circus) and they were all really good. These people work REALLY hard and it definitely shows!

GROUNDS - Immaculate! The landscaping is gorgeous and everything from inside to outside, floor to ceiling is remarkably clean!

EXCUSIONS – I would recommend waiting until you arrive at the hotel and see what they have planned for the week before booking excursion. Also, we found that booking through the tour representatives in the lobby instead of the hotel was cheaper. Keep in mind that the tour buses pick up other hotels before and after yours so the travel time can vary from what they tell you.

We went into Play Del Carmen and walked 5th Ave, visited Tulum, and went to a show at Coco Bongo and I would highly recommend all of them. 5th Ave and Tulum were great for taking in some of the local culture and Coco Bongo was a super fun, high energy show, that we were nervous about because of the timing (9:45pm – 4:30am), but I’m REALLY glad we did.

SERVICE - I have never been anywhere with better service then The Valentin. We didn't meet one employee that wasn't ready, willing, and able to go above and beyond for us! They were constantly looking for ways to improve our vacation and we really appreciated it!

Overall, this was a fabulous resort and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

We visited the VIM from 11/18/11-11/25/11 with another couple. Will try to keep this short and to the point:
Weather: very nice, rained twice for very short time period. In the low to mid 80's. Wind died down at the end and the ocean calmed down. Some choppy waves when the wind was blowing.
Dress: daytime: bathing suits, tshirts, flip flops. night: collared shirts, khaki pants, dressy casual shoes. Did not wear many shorts, as was wearing board shorts all day and slacks at night for dinner.
Pool: large with busy and quiet spots. plenty of swim up bars. Have to pay for privilege package to reserve the nice chairs/spots. Same with the beach palapas. HINT: take your own cheap float if that's important to you. The activities center will blow it up for you.
Beach: nice water, clear and blue. Rocks in most areas, but a large area with none for swimming. Did actually snorkel a couple of days when the wind was down and the water calm. If you want a prime palapa (Large grass umbrella to sit under) near the bar and bathrooms, then get the privilege package. Otherwise there are pleny further away and should not have a hard time getting one. Some seaweed/trash on beach, but guys cleaned it up daily. HINT: take a banana or some other food to feed the angel fish. Saw some people doing this on the last day, wished we had thought of it....HINT: take your own sunscreen, probably a bottle per person per week.
Food: Very good and filling. People complaining are probably never happy. Did see some cats/birds, but was not bothered in the least bit. Never went hungry, on the contrary, was always full. Room service takes 45 or less. HINT: take a large insulated cup with top (Tervis Tumbler, etc.). Keeps drink cold and larger for less refills.
Room: had some A/C issues. All the power cut off when there was no activity in the room. Reset the clock twice a day. Free adult channels, including a eye-opening "alternative" channel. Nice big room (Bldg 10 Emerald Suite) with balcony, could see the ocean. Big jacuzzi. Nice shower. Want the oragamy towels? Tip the housekeeping. Drinks always stocked. Let them know of preferences.
Tipping: not necessary but certainly helps with wait times and receiving smiling faces. They work hard for long hours with little pay. Do yourself a favor and make someone smile by giving them a tip ($1-2 for drinks/breakfast/lunch and $5-10 for dinner, $1-2 for the carts, etc.) I took $100 in ones and about $100 in fives and tens. Glad I did...
Activities: Lots to do/see. Did not participate but had fun watching. If you want an excursion, check out Captain Quickie out of Playa Adventuras, it was an awesome time.
Alcohol: there was actually four beers: Sol, Tecate Light, Dos Equiis (green can/special lager), and Coors Light. Plenty of top shelf, just have to ask for it. Never wanted for a drink without having whatever I wanted. Be flexible people...
Attitude: usually very nice and helpful. I noticed that saying "no" or being unable to accommodate was ok with staff. I've been other places where they will do anything and everything possible to say "yes" and fix the issue. Here they just said "no" with a smile. It was ok, but this is mainly why I did not give it 5 stars. Wanted a box fan for the room to drown out snoring and for air flow, the conceirge checked with maintenance and another department, "no" was the answer. On the second to last day, we happened upon one in the room with the wheelchairs behind the lobby. We wanted the auto cutoff in the room disabled, but that was not able to be done. Our friends room in the next building did not do this. No big deal though. Was happy with the room/accommodations.

The key question: "Would I go back?" Probably not, just because there is so much in the world to see and do. If I was going back to the area, "yes" I'd go back.

If you're going to the Cancun/Riveria Maya area and want an all inclusive, this is a good bet. Would recommend. I felt I got my money's worth.
