“Experience serenity in an amazingly well decorated environment!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

We stayed with our family (3 girls: 13months, 9 and 11 years old) in this serene, clean and very tasteful decorated property only surrounded by sawahs north of Ubud. The Belgian owners (archaeologists / art historians) created this (almost) perfect place. There are 5 pavilions to stay in, a dining pavilion with intimate cocktail area, swimming pool (overlooking the Gunung Agung), Sawah club (place to play games, pool, dart and enjoy a cocktail in the middle of a sawah, mini golf in a Japanese garden, petanque field, view tower, spa…..). Each room, pavilion or part of the garden in decorated with Indonesian historical art pieces (only for this you need more than a day). Furthermore, from the property there are stunning views overlooking the surrounding sawahs and the Gunung Agung. We stayed in the Surga and Surga Kecil pavilion and the views were really superb (Surga). The staff (only local people) is really great and can help to organize a variety of trips (e.g. ubud, massage/spa, car rental etc). We had a cooking course organized for our two older kids with Rai, the chef of Awan Biru. He did a great job with them: went to the local market in morning to buy ingredients and did the preparing thereafter with them. Some other activities we did were horseback riding, cycled to Kitamini (to overlook the lake and Gunung Batur), dance performance in Ubud, lots of walking trough the sawahs. This is very child (and baby)-friendly place with lots of activities for them as well (Sawah club, trampoline, cycling): baby-sitting can be organized as well. The food, prepared by Rai (the chef) was great, with Indonesian, SE Asian but also European dishes (but can recommend the local dishes). This place is probably also a superb place to have a (family) reunion.
In summary, we had a really fantastic stay in a superb environment. Don’t miss this experience.

Dear Our Guests,

Warmest Greeting from Awan Biru,
thank you for the review and we do apologize for being very late to respond this very helpful review about this villa resort accommodation. Well, this villa resort is indeed designed and organized to have some entertainment facilities to keep the guests feeling entertained and satisfied if they do not want to leave for Ubud. The villa provides almost all that they need from entertainment, activities, restaurant, etc. Besides, this accommodation also has the incredible nature stetting from where you can see rice terrace setting, green valley, sunrise in the horizon with the view of the highest mountain in Bali, Mount Agung.

Thank You
Best Regards
Awan Biru Team

We stayed one night, and a total of about 30 hours, at this remarkable paradise that's halfway up the mountainside (a 40 minute drive) from Ubud. Our group consisted of two adult couples and 3 kids (ages 10-18), and we stayed in three of the resort's five bedrooms (It can accommodate up to about 12 people comfortably).

We stayed in the "Sunrise" bedroom, and let our parents have the aptly named "Heaven." Both had three walls of glass with stunning panoramic views of a deep river valley, and gorgeous open-air bathing and shower facilities. At dawn, when the sun peeked over the ridge and flooded our "Sunrise" bedroom, we got a fantastic close-up view of Mt. Agung. The kids room was almost as nice, and had its own private plunge pool.

You can see from their web site that they aim to provide pampered luxury in an exotic setting, and they succeed beautifully. The staff is so friendly and professional, and the chef, who has apparently never left Bali, served up traditional and fusion dishes that were consistently excellent. It was clear that he really cares about his guests - He meticulously listed the ingredients and explained the preparation of every dish as it was served,

The exercise room had a full range of weightlifting and aerobic exercise machines. You can sit in the sauna or let the electronic massage chair work you over while looking out at the valley. If you want a real massage, they bring their favorite masseuse up from Ubud to work on you in a peaceful and beautifully decorated Japanese-inspired spa.

One thing their web site doesn't really convey is that there are all kinds of activities for kids to enjoy. I was worried that ours might be bored, given how far we were from town. But they had a blast bouncing between the heated pool, the badminton court, ping pong, foosball table, billiards, darts, board games, and even a 9-hole miniature golf course. They actually begged us to let them stay longer.

If you're lucky, the owners might be there on one of their extended stays. Marc and Marie-Eve are Belgian anthropologists, and have fascinating stories to tell of their various adventures. Their exquisite taste, acquired over a lifetime of exploration, shows through in the resort's location, architecture, interior design, cuisine, and service. It felt like a privilege to enjoy the fruits of their aesthetic vision.

If you want to know what it's like to really feel pampered amid luxury in a gorgeous private setting, without blowing through your kids' college fund, I'd highly recommend Awan Biru.

Room Tip: Everybody should stay in a room like "Heaven" or "Sunrise" at least once in thei...

Dear Our Guests,

Thank you for the great review of our villa and we do apologize for the delayed response,
as you mentioned, realizing that the distance is probably a problem for some guests, the villa resort is finally designed and organized to have many entertainment facilities for either the kids and adults to play and be entertained. Besides, there are also sauna, jacuzzi etc for you to enjoy. If you think you just want to relax and enjoy the beauty of the nature , this place has the incredible nature view that you can enjoy, from the verdant green valley, rice paddy fields, even mount Agung is very clear to be seen from the villa. If you plan to explore the nature, we also can suggest you and arrange for you some activities that you can do to explore the nature, like cycling, trekking etc. Cars are also able to be arranged if you decide to go to Ubud or organize a tour.

Thank You
Best Regards
Awan Biru Team
