We stayed with our family (3 girls: 13months, 9 and 11 years old) in this serene, clean and very tasteful decorated property only surrounded by sawahs north of Ubud. The Belgian owners (archaeologists / art historians) created this (almost) perfect place. There are 5 pavilions to stay in, a dining pavilion with intimate cocktail area, swimming pool (overlooking the Gunung Agung), Sawah club (place to play games, pool, dart and enjoy a cocktail in the middle of a sawah, mini golf in a Japanese garden, petanque field, view tower, spa…..). Each room, pavilion or part of the garden in decorated with Indonesian historical art pieces (only for this you need more than a day). Furthermore, from the property there are stunning views overlooking the surrounding sawahs and the Gunung Agung. We stayed in the Surga and Surga Kecil pavilion and the views were really superb (Surga). The staff (only local people) is really great and can help to organize a variety of trips (e.g. ubud, massage/spa, car rental etc). We had a cooking course organized for our two older kids with Rai, the chef of Awan Biru. He did a great job with them: went to the local market in morning to buy ingredients and did the preparing thereafter with them. Some other activities we did were horseback riding, cycled to Kitamini (to overlook the lake and Gunung Batur), dance performance in Ubud, lots of walking trough the sawahs. This is very child (and baby)-friendly place with lots of activities for them as well (Sawah club, trampoline, cycling): baby-sitting can be organized as well. The food, prepared by Rai (the chef) was great, with Indonesian, SE Asian but also European dishes (but can recommend the local dishes). This place is probably also a superb place to have a (family) reunion.
In summary, we had a really fantastic stay in a superb environment. Don’t miss this experience.
