“One of the original hotels from Chittagong”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

I have visited the Agrabad hotel on many occasions over the past decade. While not the most modern hotel, it is well located for business in Chittagong, has a good restaurant, and very helpful staff. The hotel is very open to offering discounts to regular business travellers.

Within the hotel you will find concessionary shops selling souvenirs and some travel essentials. This can be handy if you are stuck in the hotel on the weekend or during one of the common Hartals (national strikes).

This time I stayed their for three nights and I think my last review helped me a lot. They gave me room on 4th Floor which is totally renovated and was up to mark. The room was renovated and air conditioning was perfectly working. The bathroom was quite impressive as all bath fittings were new and working perfectly fine.
Room service has improved and all the food I ordered was served hot in my room.
I enjoyed my free time in swimming and at gym, which were well maintained.
Overall good experience this time.

Room Tip: Choose room on renovated floors only

This one is probably one of the oldest hotel in the city. Before the visit I had some not so good feedback of the hotel....its old, smelly and don't get surprised if you find cockroaches in your room.

But it was a nice surprise....the hotel has been turned around as one of the best or possibly the best after renovation.

Price wise its the best if you compare with the other big name Peninsula.

The room (413) which i got was clean, spacious, nicely decorated and well equipped (even the toiletries...which does not happen unless you are staying in Westin or Radisson in Bangladesh). The only hitch is the in room air conditioning system...you will not miss Sweden if its on (i stayed the entire time with it switched off...but you will not feel uncomfortable as there is also a central air conditioning system which works). You have tea coffee maker too in the room. The floor also had a person responsible to be contacted in case of any help 24 hours.

The hotel has a pool, spa and a gymnasium.

There is a coffee shop, pool side hookah bar and a bar on the first floor. The options in the coffee shop for dinner and breakfast is decent. Only thing is at times you need to insist a little for better delivery of service, but once you say that you are well taken care of.

Surprise was the Hookah bar by the pool...trendy, modern and at times can be little cheesy.

Service across all the areas were very courteous, professional....almost perfect!!!

Just a note on WIFI...which needs to be looked into as it hardly works if you are in the room.

I stayed there in aug 2013 for 3 nights . Staff is courtous , humble. Good ambience . Food choice was good. Chittagong being small town , getting conveyance ( Taxi / rent a car) out side is difficult & you need to depend on hotel travel desk. they charge a fortune for it.

Airport pick up & drop would be dofficult on your own . better you negotiate to include in your booking with Hotel.

Overall stay & Food is good.Hotel is cleaniness is good. Location is convinient.

Room Tip: Ask for swimming pool facing room. other rooms are facing road & Could be noicy in night.

The hotel is renovating at this moment. I stayed in a "not renovated " room. The room is large and very clean. WIFI is working well and all staff is very helpfully and friendly.
No complaints about this hotel. The restaurant does serve daily a Bangladesh and international buffet, breakfast/lunch/dinner, with very good quality for a very reasonable price.
I stayed for 3 weeks and am really very satisfied.

Room Tip: The "old rooms" are not less in quantity. And quality is all right.

I have stayed in two rooms at hotel Agrabad, 605 and 603. Both rooms were well received. The staff, I thought were very helpful and most courteous. The food at the cinnamon restaurant was OK, although I would recommend staying away from the steak dinners as they are a bit tough, but still a value based on price. The sixth floor has evidently been remodeled and in the USA could be compared to a Holiday Inn Express. But in Chittagong, This is a very welcome and comfortable site. Remember, you are in a very poor country, and things you may take for granted are not so easy to come by here. However at Hotel Agrabad you can expect the staff and security personnel to attend to most every need you have with comfortable living conditions. The lounge has a small choice of alcoholic beverages, but you can find a flavor of you choice including Heineken and a locally brewed beer called Hunter, which is reminiscent of Fosters larger. Liquor will include Black Label, Smirnoff, Gordon's, and Chivas Regal. This trip I stayed three weeks and am very satisfied. A bit pricey but well worth it. By the way, room 605 has a super firm bed and was not comfortable to me, and 603 seemed to be close to just right for Hotel sleeping. I am not too needy, so for me, the accommodations exceeded my expectations.
