“by far my favorite beach”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

well, let me be more specific: the ONLY public beach that's worth driving from Beirut to. Sur is a charming town and the public beach is a gem. you can bring your pets, cooler, your own food/drinks and spend the day on the sand, or you can choose to spend it at any one of the 50 "tents" that also serve food and drinks. some serve alcohol and others don't, but it's okay to drink on the beach (we're beer drinkers and we've never been hassled, unlike what most paranoid Lebanese people will tell you) but it's necessary (and generally logical, no?) that you remain respectful - i.e. no spring break behavior coz this is a family place and it's the south's largest public beach. it's a shame foreigners can't go past the final checkpoint because there are even more beautiful beaches further south, including a turtle sanctuary, but i guess that's one of the ONLY perks of being Lebanese :)

“Love it!”

Best public beach in Lebanon. Well managed. Try tent number 38 for a quit time or number 49 for the cool crowd.

“OK if using the private beach resort.”
Reviewed January 3, 2012

The two reviews (in German and Italian) already contained here seem to comment on the two different approaches to Tyre beach: one to the public zone, and one to the area accessed via a private beach club. I have only ever been to the latter so can only opine on that. Gaining entry is pretty pricey, but all facilities are provided -- changing rooms, lockers, showers, toilets, shop, etc. This is certainly not luxurious, but it is adequate, safe and clean. The beach itself is also very clean, and is furnished with sunbeds and umbrellas. Access to the sea is via a gentle slope, and is thus ideal for children. The place seems to be frequented by Lebanese families and also by large groups of UN peacekeeping forces on their day off (lots of sunburnt Scandinavians!) who play volleyball and football across the sand but who don't cause any bother whatsoever. A rather expensive snack service is provided to the sunbeds and comprises largely drinks and sandwiches.
This is a quiet, clean, safe place to hang out if you want to visit the beach in Lebanon. There's a large car park at the entrance where you can leave your wheels (car or UN armoured vehicle!).

“Among the best beaches in Lebanon”
Reviewed November 7, 2011

The beach is wonderful. It is a sandy beach located in the south of Lebanon with a lovely location.
The beach is calm and very clean, but you have to know where to go.
The public beaches are very crowded and can get dirty, but there are some tents and shops there where you can sit and have lunch. I recommend tent 9, it is mainly for foreigners and UN.
But the best thing you would want to do is go to Tyre Rest House. It is very clean with some pools and fun activities. You can have good lunch there, play chess on the sand, and enjoy the lovely beach,
