“Great food and friendly service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2009

To start with a little bit of advice, especially in light of some previous comments. It has been suggested that it would be a good idea to book a room in the annexe to get a good view. I did that and we got a room on the top floor to get the best view, but essentially it is an attic room with very confined ceiling space and a fairly contrived toilet and separate shower + basin in room. It didn't spoil our stay but I'm guessing it would be pretty frustrating if you were there for any length of time. So my advice would be... save the view for outside.
That said, the limitations of the room were not a big deal and were more than compensated by the friendliness of the hotel staff (and indeed every single person we came across - no hostility to tourists at all, contrary to what was suggested by an earlier reviewer). The food was of course great. We had one meal here and one in the Plockton Hotel and can't criticise any aspect of either of them.
Plockton itself is amazing and I would definitely plan to go back for much longer. We only went there to try out the Scotrail Over-55s deal and are delighted that we did.

We travelled to Plockton by train as we wanted to experience the Kyle of Lochalsh line and have time to enjoy the scenery. We had a room in the annexe which was a very good size as was the bathroom. The hospitality tray was more than adequate. The staff were very friendly and we had a lovely evening trying the quiz with the locals in the bar. However, the highlight was the menu and the food. Great choices and very well cooked and presented. The best hotel food we have had in a long time.
Anyone considering the train journey should continue on to Kyle as the scenery from Plockton to Kyle is wonderful.

We stayed here for the first time on the Inn's Autumn Gold tariff and it turned out to be sensational value for money. The menu is vast for a place this size and everything cooked to perfection by the owner.
Ok the bed was a bit lumpy, but not enough in itself to complain about. This is an Inn, not a 5 star London hotel. We stayed in room 7 for 3 nights and there was no noise or smell.
The staff were bright and cheerful even after a long season.
We will be back.

We stayed in July for 2 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved Plockton. But the room was not as scrupulously clean as I would have expected. Of the b & b's during our trip this was the most expensive - not value for money. Our room was in the main building at the back - there was no sea view and looked over the back garden. The bed was comfy though and we didn't get any kitchen noise like another reveiw. Electric sockets at a premium - had to unplug tv to use hairdryer. I have to say it was all a bit cramped. Bathroom was quite nice though again very cramped and could have done with the floor having a good scrub. If I had been any bigger (I am size 12-14) it would have been an uncomfortable squeeze in the bathroom. The staff we found polite enough.
Best part was that we met some interesting characters in the bar - amongst the other tourists - also the restaurant food good and a lovely breakfast.
Sorry we can't give a better reveiw because it was nice - just not clean enough.

This is an ideal place to stay if you like friendly staff and good food; with the locals in the Bar adding to the atmosphere but not too loudly! The Inn is unpretentious and comfortable, the staff friendly , cheerful and helpful. The food was excellent and freshly prepared for every meal we had in the attractive dining-room. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spotless if a little old fashioned, the beds very comfortable; there was no noise heard from any other rooms in the Annexe so very quiet and restful. We arrived by train and the Owner of the Inn offered lifts to the station and the nearest town if we wanted them, "it's no trouble". I would certainly stay there again and definitely eat in their restaurant if there were no rooms available. The food is as good as it says in the local tourist guide and we didn't bother to try anywhere else for our evening meal; the place was full every evening with people waiting for tables.

Filthy rooms, rude and ignorant staff (mostly youth club). The most unsatisfactory experience we have ever had. The cost is totally extortionate - we would find it hard to justify the cost of a youth hostel or the state of the rooms. Maybe the Annexe is better who knows, but the main hotel should be shut down and the staff and management should go on a personality and management course....is the customer always right - not in Plockton Inn books - they just don't give a damn.
Anyone thinking of staying there and viewing this with cynicism just be sure not to get room 7 or 3 at the back for sure because you will get a cocktail of aromas which will turn your stomachs for sure.
