For lovers of freshly caught fish and shellfish, this is the place to eat and indeed stay. Accommodation is fairly simple but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Our room was in a recently acquired property directly opposite the Inn. Everything was fresh, the room was of a good size, had 2 comfortable beds and en suite bathroom designed to make life easier for the physically handicapped. The walk-in shower had no tub, only a pull around curtain, so the shower water cascaded onto the floor and caused a bit of flooding.
The highlight of any stay here has got to be eating in the restaurant. The menu is comprehensive and, although catering mainly for fish and seafood lovers, has a good selection of meat dishes all sourced locally, so that venison and beef and lamb are all top quality. Prices are reasonable, portions are substantial and come with nice fresh vegetables on the side. There is a pretty good wine list and the wines are reasonably priced too. Even if you are resident, it is important to reserve a table for dinner as the restaurant is very popular with non-residents.
Breakfasts are also substantial and there is a good choice ranging from traditional eggs and bacon to the less traditional smoked haddock with poached egg, the latter being of such size that the fish overlaps the plate!
Staff are mainly local people and are helpful and friendly and, if the sun does shine, Plockton is heaven on earth. For most visitors it is a long way to travel to get there, but well worth the journey.
The Inn's "Pub" is a popular and friendly place for an after-dinner drink or two, and local musicians play traditional music on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. This really draws the crowds and locals and visitors mix well, helped no doubt by the reasonable bar prices!
All told, this is a great place and our 4 night's stay was all too short, despite the rather unhospitable weather for much of the time.
