“Magnificent road, do it!”
Review of Drumbeg Loop

Reviewed October 28, 2012

Ok you have to avoid the sucicidal sheep, mad deer, ducks, etc but it is so worth it. Make sure you pop down to the Assynt light house as well as stop the car and walk to Eas Coul aulin waterfall.

Fantastic road, Drumbeg Stores are amazingly well stocked too.

Thank Karen S

What we liked: empty roads winding through hills, mountains and glens all leading down to windswept, deserted beaches. Autumn colours in the Highlands are beautiful. Other good things: plentiful parking spaces to pull over and admire the scenery. Clean, functioning public toilets, no matter how remote.
What we didn't like: The Highlands are so incredibly beautiful, it astonishes us how easily the view can be blighted. For some reason (we suspect poor planning legislation) the landscape is littered with squalid-looking caravans and statics. It seems no Scottish croft is complete, these days, without some rotting caravan parked next to it. It got so predictable we started to compete about who could spot the most! Another oddity is the "Passing Place" road signs that attended every widening of the road. Why the need? It's patently obvious there places to pass so why all the signage obscuring the fantastic views beyond?

A little hair raising in places and not quite as spectacular as the route to Applecross, this route allows numerous scenic wonders, chances to see all sorts of wildlife and well worth a detour to complete this great scenic loop. Not for the faint hearted, just take your time which you will do to appreciate a brilliant view around every corner.

There were some scenic views (which saved this from a poor rating) but it was an aggravating road to travel, worse than other one track roads we used in Scotland. Other routes also had more continuous good views.

This road takes you through the crofters North Assynt Estate. The first (I think) community bye out. It is a road to be savoured and not rushed through. Lots to see and to stop to get out and explore. This road is reserved by me for those clients who deserve to see something really special in Scotland. Off the beaten track and worth the time.
