I along with my partner visited the pretty village of Lochinver in Sutherland, to climb Suilven, the sugar loaf mountain. We were indeed fortunate to find the Polcraig Guest House, where the owner Cathel MacLeod, gave us a great welcome. We felt at home immediately as he was so friendly towards us and he couldn't have done more to help us get settled in. He showed us to room 6 which has a splendid view over the bay to the western isles. We could not have wished for better. The room was very comfortable indeed and everything was pristinely clean. Everything that anyone could wish for was in the room. In the morning we had a breakfast to die for. It was just perfect. Our host had a great knowledge of Assynt and the surrounding area. He had climbed Suilven many times himself, as well as all of the other mountains in Assynt, and it became apparent as we talked, that he had climbed most of the mountains in the Highlands. What a great help he was to us and his directions were spot on. It was so good in Polcraig that we stayed on for three days, and we will certainly be back. If you ever visit Lochinver there is no need to look any further than Polcraig. You will be welcomed and all your needs will be met by Cathel whose knowledge of the area is extremely comprehensive. There is a great drying room too and boy did we ever need it, with all the rain. Cathel is a local man born and bred, and it is so good to find a true Highlander running a Guest House in Lochinver. We have plans to return later in the year to this lovely little village and to the Polcraig Guest house. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.
