“Don't miss these fantastic lodges in a truly beautifull location”
Reviewed June 21, 2010

This is truly an awesome area of Scotland.

The lodges offer a tranquil retreat with great sea views and for those who do not want to explore and look for wildlife (though you probably will) simply sit on the balcony and wait for the wildlife to come to you. You will not be disappointed.

The lodges afford home comfort to a very high standard and are well appointed. (We have stayed in several plus Seashore cottage). You could not hope for a better base to explore this area of Scotland. Karen and Andrew pride themselves in offering great self-catering accommodation. We have now used the lodges and Seashore Cottage for years and return each year knowing that we will have a great comfortable base to explore this corner of Scotland. You get exactly what it says on the label and more. The Lodges offer great sea views and sunsets that stay with you forever. If your wish is to be close to the seashore then Seashore Cottage gives you a walk of five steps from the front door to watch the tide ebb and flow.

We are regular visitors - every year for the past 20 years - to this area of Scotland and know the area very well. Finding this gem of a location was a find that has not been bettered and we have booked already for 2011!

The Assynt area is truly a wilderness area for those looking for tranquilly and an escape from the urban hustle. You will find the landscape awesome, the walking magnificent, and the driving breathtaking. Take your bike and add another dimension. Using the Lochinver lodges as your base, you can explore this vast area. The village of Lochinver is a stone’s throw away where you can enjoy excellent eating venues!

For those who love the wild Landscape and also like their creature comforts then this is for you…….

Lochinver Holiday Lodges are a wonderful place for a holiday. I first started staying at LHL over 30 years ago with the wife and very young son and daughter I have now been staying at LHL at Easter with my daughter and her husband and their two small boys every year for a few years now.

The situation and setting of the lodges is outstanding and the facilities in the lodges are all you would need for a Scottish holiday whatever the weather and whatever your needs. Karen and Andrew are maticulous in their attention to the needs of lodge residents and the lodges are well cared for and maintained. The lodges are always immaculate on arrival and with a lovely arrival pack. Karen always has a warm and friendly welcome.

The views down the sea loch from the lodges is wonderful and the sunsets are fantastic. The boys (big and small!!!!!) love the large grassy area between the lodges and the sea and they can be easily supervised from the lodges.

The living area in the lodges is open plan and the facilities in the lodges include a well fitted kitchen area, a very comfortable sitting area with plenty of seating and TV and radio/CD player, and an ample eating area. The bedrooms are always extremely clean and the beds welcoming at the end of a long exhilarating day. The bathroom/shower/toilet is always clean again with modern equipment and heating. The lodges have metered electricity paid for my residents.

Lochinver village has a filling station, a couple of village stores and the famous Lochinver Larder and other restaurants together with local craft and art shops. The Information Centre is outstanding.

In summary if you are looking for a self catering accommodation of the highest quality or a place to rest your head, LHL is the place and fully derserves a 4 star rating.

We have stayed with Mr and Mrs Stewart six times so far and can't wait to return to Lochinver. The lodges and cottages we have stayed in are excellent in every way. The welcome is first class. The properties are spotless, well appointed with all mod cons, warm and comfortable. The bay in which most of the properties are situated is beautiful, with stunning views out to sea and spectacular sunsets. There is no shortage of wildlife and things to do, with unbelievable scenery everywhere. We have stayed in many places in Scotland over the years but since we discovered Lochinver Holiday Lodges and Cottages we have no wish to go elsewhere. This is a fantastic place to get away from it all and enjoy peace and solitude in a wonderful landscape and among very friendly folks when you wish to mingle.

We have just stayed at Woodside and can only describe it as perfect, so much that we will be returning later this year. This will be after the 2 weeks we will spend in Seashore so it is clear we don't bother with anywhere else! The hardest thing will now be deciding which cottage. Generally we have been taking about 3 breaks a year here, mainly in Seashore, for the last few years. We have also stayed in Eider and Shelduck lodges and found them just as good. My 78 year old mother-in-law also enjoyed Shelduck. The views are unsurpassed from all properties and the standards of cleanliness and quality cannot be beaten. Along with very friendly and heplfull owners what more could you want.
The wildlife is abundant on the doorstep and nearby Lochinver has great food to be found, especially in the larder. This recent holiday at Woodside was about celebrating an important milestone in my life and it was just everything I could have hoped for.

We have stayed in a few of the Stewarts' wonderful properties in Lochinver and we always have the most relaxing time imaginable - what a fab escape from the intensity of London!
This time we stayed in one of the Lodges and had an excellent view of the bay and lots of great birds to watch, although sadly the famous otter was still elusive.

If you want a self catering cottage away from the world you really can't beat LHL - and the welcome is warm with a great welcome tray of tea, coffee, shortbread and choccies and the kitchen is second to none with its superb quality cooking equipment and Highland Pottery. The properties are always impeccably clean too.

The area is great for walking and wildlife and the properties all have a great info pack. Lochinver also boasts two really high class restaurants.

I can't recommend the LHL properties highly enough for a real get away from it all.

We were staying in the lodge called 'Shelduck'.
This is apparently the only lodge with 2 bathrooms and as such ours was quite small (not too bad in itself, but the door into it was glass, and therefore see-through; not good when using the wc!).
Of all the lodges, this one had the least spectacular view (although it was still very nice).
As the title suggests, we would like to give this 3½ out of 5, because although fine, when compared to other places we have stayed, we would expect a 3 star rating rather than the 4 it has.
If we had stayed in one of the other lodges, we probably could have given it a 4 out of 5 rating.

Lochinver Holiday Lodges are inspected annually by Visit Scotland under their quality assurance scheme and we have been consistently awarded our 4 star rating for each of the 7 lodges accordingly.

We welcome our visitors’ comments and invariably go out of our way to ensure as far as is possible within all reasonable means that any concerns raised are addressed beyond expectation and in a timely manner. We regard the satisfaction of our visitors as paramount in importance to the successful maintenance of our business. We also welcome independent forums such as Trip Advisor as a means by which we can collect feedback on our performance and the quality of accommodation we are providing. However, these forums do rely on the accuracy of writer’s comments and unfortunately do not filter out any emotional content that might colour a particular entry for reasons which may or may not have anything to do with our service.

In respect of Shelduck, this is indeed the only lodge out of 7 which boasts 2 en-suite bathrooms. The bathroom the door in question was an opaque screen through which vision was obscured and the WC is sited around a corner and not directly visible from the beyond door.

However, as part of our continual rolling programme of improvements, the bathroom doors in Shelduck have been replaced with solid wooden doors, a velux roof window has been introduced to add light into the bathroom and the wardrobes have been rebuilt with folding doors opening into the bedrooms.

Having stayed at Lochinver Lodges in October for the past 20 years, we would highly recommend them as an ideal bese for exploring this beautiful, rugged part of Scotland. The lodges themselves are extremely comfortable, well appointed and well maintained, situated in their own private, secluded bay away from passing traffic with a balcomy that allows you to sit out and enjoy watching the varied wildlife. The owners are very approachable and attentive. We can't wait till our next visit !
