“under new ownership,a little gem”
Reviewed March 28, 2011

We booked this hotel not knowing it was under new ownership until we arrived.
Wefound the new owner and his wife, and staff very welcoming, nothing was a problem.
The hotel is a little dated but the owners intend to revamp in near future ,its clean, great location in its own grounds with private parking and beer garden. The only downside being anybody with walking difficulties may find it to much as its on a hill.
The town is only afive minute walk away.
The menu is varied from bar meals to a la carte the choice is yours with an excellent breakfast to start your day.Cosy bar lounge area for that night cap or pre dinner drink. We will hope to return to Jedburgh in the future and will with out doubt be staying here again.

Stayed in Room #2, which was decent but smallish. Charming exterior. We did not book ahead but had no probs getting room. Dinner was great, attached bar was small but decent whisky selection. Breakfast was adequate but offered the identical uninspired menu like virtually all other B&Bs in Scotland. But we all know you don't go to Scotland for the food. Plenty of free parking. There are other small hotels on the same street. I would go back to this hotel.

Reference: I'm a middle-class American and wife is upper class Indonesian, both in 30's and both well-traveled. This was our second 2-week vacation throughout Scotland. Firmly believe hotel/B&B prices in UK (including Scotland) are way overpriced for what you receive (= poor value), which is even worse when US Dollar is weak against Pound. As a result, my reviews and scores tend to be based on comparisons to hotels/B&Bs/restaurants worldwide, not just in the area we were vacationing in.

Stayed here during a motorcycle tour with a colleague. Its a small, privately owned guest house/hotel.

We found the rooms to be basic and somewhat dated, but they were clean and had all of the amenities we expected. There's a small but comfortable bar area downstairs to which we were confined by the unpleasant weather, but the real surprise was the food which was plentiful and of a high standard. Frankly we were surprised at how high.

If what you want is somewhere fuss-free to sleep and maybe eat in the evening you could do a lot worse than stay here.

On arrival the hotel looks quaint and its in a lovely setting. When we checked in we were told where to find our room - not shown to it. The room was large and so was the en-suite. The bed was clean with fresh sheets and the bathroom had fresh towels, there was tea/coffee/biscuits on a tray. There was no central heating - just a small heater. The decor was all very 70's which was quaint and not a problem - however the carpets were in need of a good clean, particularly as you came in the room which was really dirty, and we were glad we'd taken slippers. We decided to stay, as we'd had trouble finding accommmodation in the area for that particular weekend. As evening wore on and the restaurant got going the room began to smell of chip fat and sting our eyes. We ended up puting a rolled up towel along the bottom of the door and opeing the window. When we down for our evening meal we soon found out why - the doors to the kitchen were open wide and were just under the stair well so the smell of cooking naturally drifted up to the rooms. This happened the whole weekend and although the food was excellent - our clothes smelled of old chip fat and our eyes were stinging every evening. For this reason and the grotty carpets we wouldn't go back. When we settled our bill nobody asked if we'd enjoyed our stay. It could be a really lovely place to stay as the food is so good and the staff were friendly but the smell of greasy fat and the dirty carpets put us right off.

We have stopped twice at Glenbank - they are dog friendly and you are made to feel very welcome.

Yes the rooms are basic but if you accept dogs then they won't make it posh will they.

The staff were very nice and they have a nice enclosed beer garden.

Breakfast and evening meals were absolutely fine.

One the web the outside looked fine. It was £60 for a standard double room or £65 for a superior room.
We arrived and we shown to our room which was very dated and the electrics were a hazard (Electric light switch on INSIDE of bathroom!!). We were not told about when breakfast was or anything but that didn't matter.
It was 5pm and decided to have a shower. There was no hot water!! The house hasn't central heating and so I assume the immesion heater had rum out of water.
They were then cooking in the hotel kitchen and they opened the door of the kitchen which was near the stairs to let the smoke out and the smell of fish fat filled the hotel. Our clothes smelled of it and the hotel smelled like a chip shop all night.
Also when someone used water in the next room the sound if the pipes was awful. The hotel should be refurvished or shut down very disappointed

I stayed at the Glenbank Hotel with my husband and 6 yr old and was more than happy with the hotel. They have a small off road car park which provides safe and secure parking. There is also a little bar area which is child friendly if you want to have a drink and socialise in the evening. Also, an outdoor seating area. The resturant food was outstanding and you are given a full english breakfast in the morning. The staff are extremely friendly. The hotel is excellently located for local sightseeing or as a base for travelling further afield to Edinburgh etc.
The rooms are very basic. We had an en-suite room which had a toilet, sink and shower. Our family room contained a double bed, single bed, wardrobe and a TV. We also had tea/coffee making facilities.
This hotel is a great choice for those who do not intend to be in their room. It is great as a base for sightseeing.
