Having been during the day when it is a nice little tea room, I wasn't sure what it would be like in the evening, but having studied various menus in local restaurants I decided to plump for The Caddy Man for my birthday treat. And what a treat it was! The place is transformed into a really homely dining room, with all the antiques and bric a brac that are for sale adding to the cosy environment. The food was fantastic - innovative, but not way out! A great evening and we will be back.

Chose this place for Sunday lunch while passing through the Borders, based on reviews here. Found it just average, a little more expensive than the norm, veg variously overcooked or undercooked, portions not very big. The whole place had rather a strong 'frying' chip shop type of smell, perhaps caused by inadequate ventilation. Would not go again nor recommend to others.

I visited as the tour director for a group of very wealthy American art lovers from the University of California, San Diego. To say that they were delighted is a massive understatement. From the wonderful Scotch Broth that even my late granny would have been proud of, through the main courses, (I had Border Lamb which was mouthwatering), particularly the vegetables, and the dessert. It was generally felt that this was the best meal in a week spent eating in very expensive hotels and restaurants.

Here is the best part though. From the Proprietor through the Chef to the waitresses, the welcome was warm and welcoming. It was like coming home. Well done to all

Excellent food with a variable and constantly changing menu. Anything you like on the menu or even off the menu Ross will prepare for you in his own particular way. Should you like something but not for example want garlic in it then speak up and if your wish can be granted it will be. If you cannot manage a starter and main course but want two courses then by all meals select two starters and enjoy. The very best of food and if you find something you do not like then speak up and it will be put right. Do not sit and sulk.

Interesting place with antiques and collectables on view and for sale. The menu is extensive with local dishes made from local ingredients. Couldn't decide between beef or lamb for the Sunday roast so had half and half, plenty of both meats appeared. Good sized Yorkshire pudding and an interesting variety of vegetables, excellent roast potatoes! Couldn't fit in a pudding but the ones other diners were tucking into looked great. Plenty of parking available with easy flat access into the restaurant. We hadn' t booked and got a table easily but booking might be advisable at busy times of the year. Very good value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful.
