We stayed for 4 days at villa Gonatouki, the villa is amazing, huge and beautiful. Every part of the house was jaw-dropping, with its huge windows and views. Bruno was the most gracious host, and we were made to feel so welcome, anything we wanted we could have. The food!!! breakfast, lunch and dinner was incredible, all authentic Moroccan cuisine. We loved every minute of our stay, and left with the most amazing memories that we will remember forever! Thank you Bruno, we will see you next year

Room Tip: Every room had incredible views

We stayed at Villa Gonatouki for 4 nights in June and we cannot say one bad thing about the place. We were collected from the bus station as soon as we arrived by Bruno the villa owner. He was great, he made us feel so welcome and told us to treat the villa as if it was our home. We were introduced to all of the staff and were told to ask them for pretty much anything we wanted. The bedroom was magnificent, we had a huge private terrace with an amazing view all to ourselves. We ate in the Villa every day, lunch and dinner. The food was DELICIOUS! Moroccan home cooking at its best! Some of the bed food that we have eaten. Anything we wanted Bruno made sure we got. The villa itself is absolutely STUNNING, a perfect magical Moroccan castle! We will definitely be returning next year. This place and the people in it made our holiday a very very special one! Thank you Bruno and Staff!

I stayed in Villa Gonatouki few weeks ago and had amazing experience! I got married in Essouira and stayed in Villa Gonatouiki for 3 day's and it was a perfect place the day before my wedding. Because the Villa is amazingly beautiful, spacious and peaceful. Bruno is amazing and very attentive host as well as his team. For Bruno, nothing is a problem! My room was comfortable (with beautiful view), as well as all the communal area inside and out!

Few of my family and friends have stayed at the villa before and after the wedding. And they are all loved staying there. We have many happy memories and definitely plan to come back again soon.

I just want to say Thank you again Bruno for looking after us all in your beautiful home.

We have just returned from our (perfect) wedding in Essaouira and our parents together with some friends stayed at Villa Gonatouki based on a local recommendation. With over 50 guests in total arriving from various places there was a lot to organise and at times we wondered whether it would all go to plan. Anyway we really shouldn't have worried at all!! Bruno and his team were absolutely brilliant. They really couldn't do enough to help and make everybody feel comfortable in this spectacular home. We really can't recommend the Gonatouki experience enough and we are already talking about our next visit.

Our son was getting married in a nearby Riad and he recommended the Villa Gonatouki for our stay. From our first contact Bruno was the perfect host, always helpful and quick to respond. Yes it is somewhat remote but this adds to its charm and attraction. An amazing building with very comfortable rooms and extensive communal areas, both inside and outside the Villa. If you are looking for a relaxing, get-away-from-it holiday you will love the Villa Gonatouki. It really isn't a problem getting into Essaouira if you want to do a bit of shopping and have a night out. Taxis are a maximum of 100 dirhams.
Perhaps a sign at the bottom of the drive would be a help for those who are doing their own driving. Also the best meal we had in Morocco was lunch on the day of the wedding, when a lot of the other guests came over to gird their loins in preparation for the night's festivities. Bruno very kindly provided lifts for his guests across to the ceremony. He is a top guy.
We would highly recommend a stay at the Gonatouki. First class!!

Villa Gonatouki is a little strange at first - it is literally in the middle of nowhere as far as most Europeans would be used to - the road is, as others have said, almost impassable for small hire cars. We arrived at night and despite having a working GPS, we still couldn't locate the entrance to the road leading up to the villa and someone came out to find us in the dark. This was the only frustrating thing about the place - Bruno, the owner, whom we didn't meet, was superb to talk to and communicate with - you just need some very clear instructions on how to find it as there are no signs at all and because it is all new, it just doesn't feature on google maps! It is 3 km from the main road (marked KM 8) on the right hand side, but the gate is not obvious. It is past the Hotel Eucalyptus (RHS), a further 400m on the right where there are two tree stumps either side of a driveway (they used to be painted white, but this has come off) and an oxide red coloured gateway which is the entrance to several villas, some clearly still under construction. Once you are inside through, the Villa is its own little haven - quite a big one in fact. The rooms are spacious, purpose built in traditional style and well decorated. It is unfussy, dressed, but not cluttered. It is a large villa and really does need to be filled to give it some atmosphere. When we were there with or three young daughters, there was another couple who had been on their own for two nights and felt a bit isolated. Having said that, the staff are great and the food is lovely - well prepared tagines - we ate in every night and for one lunch. The kids ate well. The pool is beautifully situated, but was very cold by the time we arrived in the first week of November, although we did have wet suits so the children were able to go in. The weather was mixed - we had one hot day but then several days of rain which was a shame and it can get quite chilly in the villa in the evening, so do take some warm clothing. There is a big chillout room with books/games/TV a nice environment for our girls to play in and meant we were not in our room the whole time. This would be a great destination for a huge family or work party - there are endless rooms and a super roof terrace. It would be quite difficult to get around if you don't have a car - that worked well for us - thank you Cesar for helping us change our tyre on the last day - the rocky road got the better of our hire car (don't turn right on the main track when you leave the red gates, the road is only suitable for tractors!). All the staff are lovely - you need to chat to them to get a feel for the place. It is a super venue - it is effectively in the middle of nowhere but the facilities there are fine - it could do with a little more attention to detail, as someone else has said - chairs and tables on the balconies, an explanation of how the TVs work, washing lines to hang damp towels, but we had a super time and there was no issue at all with small children running around. Thank you Bruno and your staff. By the way, if you are driving yourself, watch out for the police radar guns - they are everywhere (in particular the road from Essaouira to Marrakech and the road into Essaouira from the Villa) and the "release" fee for tourists is anything from 100-1000dhrs....

Villa Gonatouki is a challenge to get to. It's at the end of a terrible, rocky road, which is not sign posted and a real pain to drive down. However, when you get to the Villa, it is worth the trip. It is a really beautiful spot.

The villa is beautiful, the bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely and spacious, the pool and gardens are all well kept and a joy to spend time in. There are some really simple changes that could be made to make this place really special though;

A chair in each bedroom
A television which works (or none at all)
Tables and chairs on the balconies
Some simple toiletries
Extend the wifi with a booster so you can use it in your room and the garden
A hair dryer and iron in each room
A shuttle service in to town would be a massive help as well.

Having said this, I loved the place, I loved the simplicity of the rooms and the relaxed atmosphere of the villa. I would love to return with a larger group and really enjoy all that the venue has to offer.
