“A luxury cottage in a natural setting that won't disappoint”
Reviewed September 8, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

t was such a great pleasure and a privilege to spend time in Flora Cottage and we enjoyed it immensely. The scenery, wildlife and changing colours of sea and sky were so entrancing that we were reluctant to leave the sheltered deck with its comfortable furniture to go anywhere else! To be so near the sea and yet in the luxury of the cottage is pretty unique and an experience to be cherished. Flora Cottage offers a variety of experiences with fabulous fresh food, restaurants and beaches within easy reach. It affords a high standard of luxury in a natural setting, is full of natural light and enticing views and is a pure haven for relaxation and contented living. I was with my mum who is elderly and with mobility issues and the cottage was well suited to her needs. It would also suit families with children with the rock pools and coves near the house calling out to be explored. It is a gem and won’t disappoint!

Delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We love it but suspect we are biased! One of the greatest attractions is the ever- changing scenery, light and wildlife - you never get bored. Hope to see you back next year

“perfect escape to peace and quiet”
Reviewed July 16, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

We had a wonderful fortnight here - even some warm sunny weather as a bonus. The cottage is outstandingly comfortable and the views change with the light and the tides. We enjoyed excellent bird-watching from the decking and loved exploring the rock pools when the tide went out. The silence was such a treat for us city-dwellers and it was bliss to relax and appreciate the beauty of the surroundings, observe the wildlife and generally recharge our batteries. We didn't want to leave.

So glad you enjoyed your stay. We think it is magical but then we are biased!! Whether it is the summer on the deck or the winter snuggled up to the real fire it is just so relaxing and peaceful. Do come back! Karen

“Beautiful place to stay.”
Reviewed April 12, 2017 for a stay in March 2017

I booked Flora Cottage for a much needed weekend away for my Mum & me. From the moment we arrived it was like stepping into a relaxing bubble of peace & quiet. The cottage was warm & inviting and the milk in the fridge and bread on the worktop were added welcoming touches.
I had to drive along a few narrow, country roads to get there, but the directions were very clear and we easily found Flora. It also meant that there was little or no passing traffic so all we could hear as we sat in the sunshine on the deck drinking tea and reading our books - or dozing - was the sound of the sea on the pebbles. Bliss! And to top it all we had wall to wall sunshine.
I couldn't recommend Flora Cottage highly enough. Karen (the owner) was quick to answer emails and the housekeeper helpful when I texted about something. We both slept well in very comfortable beds. It has a spacious, open plan living area and being able to light the open fire at night was another added bonus.
Definitely keep this place in mind for future weekend breaks. :-)

“Stunning location”
Reviewed August 3, 2016 for a stay in July 2016

What can I say, the location is fantastic, with views from all rooms over Millin Bay. In addition, direct access off the lounge patio decking area onto the beach and rock pools.

The cottage is very spacious, clean, well equipped and has good wifi. Also good information book regarding places to visit locally.

The website details gave a good overview of what to expect which prepared us for the fact a car is essential and no local pubs are within walking distance, though Portaferry with supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and takeaways is only 10mins by car.

Flora cottage was an excellent base to explore Northern Ireland from and a joy to return to at night to drink a glass of wine while enjoying the stunning bay views.

I would strongly recommend Flora cottage and we have every intention of returning soon.

“A little bit of heaven on earth”
Reviewed May 12, 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We stayed at Flora Cottage for a weekend - The web site looks fabulous but you have to experience staying in the cottage - it is magical - even if it is raining. Everything for your stay has be thought through. Perfection in every detail.

“Idyllic setting, fabulous cottage, great hosts”
Reviewed November 2, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We had a superb one week stay at Flora cottage in late October, just after the clocks changed. The cottage was well equipped, clean, warm and cosy, and the views over the Irish Sea were spectacular from the expanse of windows in each room. We had surprisingly good weather during the short days, and enjoyed messing around watching and photographing the wildlife and sunrises each day, so much so that we hardly strayed from the cottage at all and never visited the places/attractions we had planned to! Portaferry has a surprisingly good selection of shops for necessary provisions, although if you have dietary restrictions I would suggest bringing essentials with you if possible as we were unable to find much of a selection in the local shops; we expected this to be the case though and came supplied, although I believe there is a Tesco at Newtonabbey (45 mins away?) which may do home delivery - we saw a van in Portaferry one day. Unfortunately, the Internet was temporarily out of action during our stay, but our host was very helpful in responding to our enquiries promptly to let us know the situation, which appeared to be due to a third party issue and out of our host's control. If the Internet is essential for you, I would advise contacting the owners of any property one week or so before your arrival to check all is operational, as we have found this to be a problem with a number of properties we have rented in the past. We enjoyed our wonderful and relaxing stay so much, we hope to return again next year. A huge thank you to Karen and Eileen for making our stay so pleasurable.
