“friendly atmosphere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

I didnt stay in the hotel but the friendly receptionist found me a table for 5 people for 9pm. We arrived early and had a drink in the bar/lounge . Relaxed atmosphere and the friendly bar man asked if we would like to eat in the bar or the restaurant we chose the restaurant. The room is nice and bright and tastfully presented. the waiters were quick and efficient. The menu was small but catered for all tastes. The best dishes were definitely the fish courses but the meat courses were also nice. Overall no complaints and we werent hurried out keeping it nice and relaxing. Great location and easy to find.

This hotel was beyond our expectations. In a wonderful setting overlooking Strangford Lough, it was comfortable, quiet and friendly. The rooms were comfortable, and the service unfailingly good. The evening meals were excellent, with local seafood and a good wine list.

Room was pretty-fantastic view, old fashioned feel. The duvet was incredibly warm and heavy, probably lovely and cosy in winter but too much for even a chilly August night. Dinner was distinctly average, but we fared better than others -of the 10 other diners there, 3 sent their meals back. Breakfast was ok.

Room Tip: Lough view!

I love this place so much! It has a warm, old world, cosy atmosphere. The rooms are just beautiful - very tasteful with antique furniture, fantastic views of the lough and modern bathrooms. The food (which is the main reason we came) was just gorgeous - an extensive list of local seafood dishes. We ordered off the bistro menu and everything we had was divine. The breakfast was brilliant. The staff were just wonderful, so welcoming and hospitable. And to top it all off, this place is incredibly good value for money! The most wonderful escape I've had in a long time!

Room Tip: for a real treat, book the room with the 4poster bed!

I stayed at the Hotel a few years back and absolultey LOVED it! When I came back in July during the town's traditional Portaferry Gala Week (which is so much fun for all the family and it's free!) The hotel gave us a great room with a spectacular view of the gorgeous Strangford Lough and the food..... one word - EXQUISTÉ! This hotel is a must stay if you appreciate "old time" vintage!
