I once had a Jag, I couldn't really afford it , but it was beautiful and made me smile every time I looked at it, and smile more every time I drove it. The V8 engine, the hand stitched leather, the wood grain - the luxury - the comfort. But why did they put the window switches in a cheap plasticy thing: must have saved Jag 10p!
The Inn on the Lake made me smile the moment I saw it nestling amongst snow coverd hills. Beautiful. Class. The Christmas trimmings were amazing - a bit more class. The hot winter pimms and whisky toddy in the bar lounge overlooking a glass like lake across a frost covered lawn made me smile. We shared a sandwhich (enough for 2) late afternoon, slumped round the fire, after visiting magical Aira force. Our room was lake view: lovely, comfy, roomy (in the summer there are smaller lake view rooms but with balcony). Dinner was a delight... scallops, duck, .. trio of pork (including cheek), hake ... monster cheese board ... lovely staff. Beer - real ale - more slumping in the lounge bar.
The following hoary morning we took a steamer across Ullswater, knifing through the silent still lake. More magic.
A wedding party arrived and filled the bar so we popped to the Ramblers Bar next door for a scruptious lunch. We were concerned that the wedding party might spoil the character of the Inn - but it added another dimension - and that the service would not be so good - but it was still perfect - or that we might hear the noise from the bar directly below our room - we didn't (the Inn is properly built).
Kippers for breakfast rounded our 2 day stay off: yes we couldn't really afford it but it was wonderful.. and we just smiled .. luxury and comfort. Pampered.
We went on a 2 day deal - included in were the steamer trip on the lake - well worth it - also included were crumpets and hot chocolate on arrival; but why did they only give us 1 crumpet: must of saved them 10p that.

Just returned from a fantastic long weekend from the Inn on the Lake, wow what can I say!, we had a fantastic time, the Manager, Gary was fantastic, he looked after us from the moment we arrived until we left. The staff were fantastic too, nothing was too much trouble, I don't know what the lady was talking about, the receptionist looking at her computer screen !!!, and being disrespectful, we didn't have a problem with her, everyone was lovely. The room was really roomy, being recently refurbished, in fact the hotel and the majority of the rooms have all been refurbished to a very high standard. You must visit this hotel to appreciate the very high standard of this hotel and the competence of the staff. The views of the lake and grounds from the room were remarkable, the colours and the views were something else. Having read previous reviews, I don't know what the lady was talking about, I suppose you cant please all of the people all of the time , but for me you have to experience this hotel for yourself to make your own decision. I will defo be back as will the majority of customers.

I have just sat down to write this review but before doing so just glanced at minuscule number of bad reviews which I have to say bore no resemblance to the service we encountered.
We first met Gary Wilson the general manager back in June 2012 when we were deciding where to get married and he was brilliant, nothing was too much trouble for him. We were shown round the hotel with a complimentary glass of wine, shown the rooms which were spotless and we were not made to feel rushed in any way.
As a result of the welcome we received we booked the hotel that day. Communication throughout was brilliant and we made a couple more trips up to the hotel as my wife had some questions to ask and each time we were met by Gary who answered all the concerns and questions my wife had.
We arrived at the hotel on 1st Dec and we were greeted by such a friendly welcome by the receptionist. The hotel was fantastic and had all the Christmas Decorations out and it was magical. We were then introduced to Jonathan Wills who would be in charge of arranging everything to do with the wedding. Jonathan is an asset to the hotel, he was brilliant talking us through everything on the Saturday and and organising everything on the Sunday when we got married. All the staff at the hotel were fantastic, the bar staff were pleasant and helpful, the restaurant staff were brilliant and the food was outstanding. A number of our wedding party arrived on the Saturday with the remainder arriving Sunday and everyone commented on how fantastic the hotel was and commented on the staff.
Breakfast was brilliant on both days with as much as you could eat and again nothing was too much trouble for the staff; you wanted more tea and it arrived within a couple of minutes, you wanted more toast and it arrived within minutes. The wedding breakfast was amazing, the food was stunning and the location was out of this world. The rooms as mentioned earlier were spotless and the bridal suite was stunning and had amazing views over the lake. The grounds of the hotel were immaculate and with the construction of a swimming pool it will one of the finest hotels in the Lakes. If anyone wanted the perfect location to get married or just come for a relaxing break then this is the place to come. The location of the hotel is outstanding and I am a firm believer in 'you get what you pay for' and with the Inn On The Lake you get so much more.
Gary 10/10 for running a fantastic hotel and we will definitely be back and thank you to your staff for making our wedding day so great.

Room Tip: The Lake view Rooms are stunning

Some time in life you come across something that you just have to put your hands up and say "thats perfect, there is nothing more you would or could want" and that quite simply is "Inn on the Lake".
Every year around early December 5 couples meet up somewhere for 3/4 days. this year one of our friend suggested "Inn on the Lake" what an inspired choice.
We booked in for bed and breakfast and a evening meal on the saturday morning departing Tuesday afternoon and in all that time everything we ate, drank was of the higest quality.
The service not just by the waiting staff but the ladies who did the rooms, reception was incredible, the attention to detail was amazing.
This is a first class 5* Hotel.

Another amazing stay at Inn on the Lake, the staff are a credit especially the manager who is always incredibly friendly and enthusiastic. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is incredible.

The room was beautifully decorated and the views were stunning.

The restaurant was fully booked but still had a relaxed, whimsical atmosphere; the A La Carte menu was imaginary and outstanding, worth every penny.
