Setting cannot be faulted – but our room was a bit grubby – in need of renovation

Nice public lounge areas to sit and relax – nice gardens to walk in down to the lake – lovely views of the lake and the fells

The evening meal was first class – beyond what we were expecting – but the breakfast was ordinary

This is a very elegant and comfortable hotel with some of the most stunning views. We have driven past the hotel many times and decided to try it out after visiting the hotels website.

The bedrooms, dining rooms and lounges are very comfortable, nicely decorated and furnished. If you want to explore the area there are plenty of walks to do from the hotel .But if you want a more relaxed stay, The Inn on The Lake could definatley be the place for you.

We booked in advance to stay 3 nights dbb. During the stay we discovered that the hotel kitchen was having a major refurb and that the meals were being prepared from 2 portacabins. Normally there is a choice of 3 menus plus pub style food in the ramblers bar next door, but due to the kitchen situation there was only 1 menu to choose from and the pub was not offering any food either. The work on the kitchen should be finished by early March.

We will almost certainly go back , but we would possibly go B&B. To take advantage of the truly spectacular views you need to book a lake view room.

The inn on the Lake,is a lovely hotel with beautiful settings around the hotel. The views from the hotel are breathtaking, from mountain views to lake views. The hotel has a large car park.On arrival, reception staff make you feel welcome. The staff are very helpful with any queries you may have. The hotel is clean and very tidy. The rooms to the hotel are very nice but what makes the hotel,is the views from your bedroom window over-looking the garden, lake and mountains. The bathroom in the room is clean and a good size. There is ample room for hanging your clothes up in wardrobe and draws.
If your eating at the hotel restaurant in the evening, you need to book at reception that day.The bar to the hotel serves good ales, wines and spirits. There is a nice area in the bar to sit down and enjoy your drinks or enjoy a evening coffee after your dinner.
The restaurant is very nice and the food is excellent. The service is at a high standard.A highly recommended hotel for romantic weekends. There is a nice garden at the rear of the hotel for a brisk walk and taking in the views.

We stayed here for two nights early December 2007 to attend a wedding. The hotel is set in spectacular Lake District scenery on the banks of Ullswater and is quite easy to reach by car from J40 on the M6, although, in the darkness of a winter's evening in bad weather, finding the hotel did take a little longer than expected.
Be aware that most mobile phones do not work here, it's out of range for most networks, so you have to rely on the hotel phone.
The hotel is what you would expect from a three star countryside establishment, comfortable and relaxing, with a log fire in the spacious lounge. Some of the bedrooms are rather small, the bigger rooms are those that overlook the lake, and it's worth remembering that when you book. Bar prices in the hotel are rather steep, more expensive than what you would expect, and the evening meal in the restaurant, whilst very good, didn't warrant the £35 per person price tag. However, the Ramblers Bar next door serves good standard bar meals at reasonable prices, it's just a pity that there isn't a covered walkway between that and the hotel, as it involved a fifty yard dash in the wind and the rain to get to it. A rather limited choice for breakfast, but a selection of cereals, fruit juice and fruits, and a good fried breakfast could not really be faulted. The staff were friendly and efficient, the service excellent, so we would recommend it as a place for a relaxing break in very scenic surrounding, and in prime walking country. But it all comes at a price.

Located in the heart of the Lakes District, this hotel is second to none.

The property sits on lakeside land with stunning gardens and surrounds, with views onto the local hills.

The room was very generous, with a large 4-poster bed, large wall mounted LCD TV with good selection of channels, views from the bay window to die for and a comfortable bathroom.

The restaurant in the hotel is fine dining with a dinner menu to challenge your palette and a breakfast that was more than ample. If you're looking for simpler tastes though, attached to the hotel is a small pub serving more basic food.

Staff were friendly and helpful but the location is what makes this place so special. It's not cheap but well worth it if you're looking to splash out for that special occasion.
