We stayed in this hotel in a room with a terrific lake view. The room itself was faultless. The staff without exception were well trained and friendly. The food in the restaurant was good but not outstanding. When there is a wedding on it was noisy in our room, but this happened during the afternoon, when we'd returned for a change of clothes. By the evening it was back to normal. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a lake view room

We booked a 2 night stay for £310 per night in one of the hotel's best 4 poster rooms with full lake view. Unfortunately we discovered shortly after arrival that the hotel had a wedding booked on the first day of our stay - Friday 12/08/11 and it was clear from the beginning that the wedding guests had priority and the run of the hotel. We were not told about the wedding when we booked. We were unable to sit near the bay windows in the lounge aea because of the wedding guests monopolising it even though they had the run of the main (and best) dining room. At one stage a member of staff cordoned off the lounge so the wedding guests were able to use the area with the views and the rest of the guests were left with the part which had a view of the car park.

The hotel decor was very tired - the upholstery in the public rooms was soiled and a seat cushion was missing form one of the chairs in reception. The paintwork was chipped and wallpaper dirty. The furnishings were dated in both the public areas and the bedroom. The TV in the room had poor reception and the cables had come out of their housing. The bathroom had no ventilation and was extremely hot & stuffy and smelt stale.

We requested dinner at 7.30 and were told it would have to be 7.15 or 8pm. No explanation was given but we assumed they were busy. In fact When we went down to dinner at 7.15 we were alone in the (small) dining room until 8.15. We were later told that this was because they were busy in the other dining room (with the wedding). The food was poor ( one of us had fish which was overcooked and dry). The service was rushed and we had to ask for time between courses. We waited in the bar for coffee (having been told it would be served to us there) but no one came and we had to go up to the bar to order. The coffee took 40 mins to arrive.

Having heard there was another wedding the following day we decided to cancel the second night. We were initially told we would have to pay the full charge. When we refused because of the poor experience the manager was called and the second night cancelled without charge. We paid a total of £400 for one night including dinner and breakfast and drinks which was very poor value for what we got.

This hotel is clearly making a lot of money form weddings and they are not interested in their other guests regardless of what those guests are paying to stay there.

Dear Guest

I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your stay at the hotel, whilst there was a wedding in the hotel on that particular day the evening function was in a completly different area away from the main building. You dined in our Glenridding Lakeview restaurant which you describe as been inferior but most certainly isn’t, we feel that couples would prefer to dine in a more relaxing personal, quiet atmosphere rather than with a group (who were all paying guests at the hotel). As for the dining time our receptionist explained that the 7.30 slot was unfortunately taken by other couples who had booked earlier. We had no other negative comments about the food or service on that evening, infact quite the opposite. The forty minute wait for coffee (lets agree to disagree).

Your description of the hotel is inaccurate harsh, exaggerated and very unfair and not represensitive of the vast majority of people who stay here and is obviously meant to cause maximum damage.

We did speak to you but by your manner there was nothing we could do to appease you. So once again let me appologise and wish you well.

My husband and I took a two night mid week break and stayed at this hotel set in the most beautiful location with fantastic gardens and a view looking onto Ullswater lake to die for. We would like to give a mention to all the staff who contributed to making our stay absolutely fabulous - the reception staff were great, a very nice welcome and a very efficient check-out, the restaurant staff provided a fantastic service, everybody was immaculately turned out and very pleasant. Compliments to the kitchen staff also - those behind the scene who contributed to producing the food which was absolutely fantastic so if you are a "foodie" as we are you will not be disappointed! The room maids did a great job, our room and en suite were immaculate. The bed was like "sleeping on a cloud", it was so so comfortable. A big thank you to the bar staff also, and not forgetting to mention Gary the Manager (we assume he was the gentleman in the suit who mingled with the guests periodically). Overall we can only describe our experience as a stay in a very well managed first class establishment supported by a very professional and commited team. Thank you all so much.

Room Tip: If something doesn't please let the management know asap, we got the distinct impression they wo...

We stayed at the Cranleigh hotel in Bowness last month and were disappointed with the hotel despite its brilliant reviews on tripadvisor. So we thought we would give the lakes another chance and go to Glenridding this time. My daughter and I have just returned from a 2 night break at the Inn on the Lake and couldnt fault it. The staff were helpful and polite, the food first class and the jacuzzi a must after a day's walking. The beds were so comfortable and with a feather topper on the matress it felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. The views and grounds are to die for (it rained non stop for the whole of our stay so I imagine it would be even better if you got lucky with the weather). We had a twin room (room 2) which overlooked the carpark so not the best of rooms. However, the size was good, it was clean and it had a nice good sized bathroom. I would love to return to this hotel with my husband and I would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed for a week in this hotel to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. This hotel did not disappoint and had a real wow factor-the location and situation with stunning views of Lake Ullswater and the fells beyond. Even on the days it rained the views were wonderful!
The staff were without exception pleasant, professional and clearly well trained. They also worked hard and were a credit to their employer.
THe hotel facilities were superb with gym, golf, jacuzzi and sauna. There is also a canoe and sailing centre nearby and it is easy to hire boats to go out on the lake which we did. We also loved playing pitch and put on the golf course-wow what a scenic place to play!
The gardens were beautiful and carefully tended. The views as I said were outstanding-this is the best view from any hotel I have encountered and I've travelled round the world!
The food was good but as the week went on the menu felt a bit limited with the same meals re-jigged. Some of the veg was rather bland and undercooked. However food was presented beautifully and was served very professionally. Overall food was great and plentiful. Breakfast had a great selection and apart from one dodgy kipper which was a 'shoe sole' experience the food was great in the morning.
We stayed in room 14, one of the balcony rooms. This had a stunning view of the lake and fells behind. We spent lots of time out on the balcony just enjoying the view. This more than made up for the room's lack of space. Newly refurbuished the room had a contemporary feel with lots of thoughtful touches but was small and lacked sufficient storage. We were an active couple on holiday for a week doing canoeing, fell walking, golf and goodness knows what else! We also wanted to change for dinner each night so the wardbrobe was woefully inadequate for our clothes. The room was cleaned every day whilst we were having breakfast and everything re-stocked. This was really impressive and thanks to the maids who worked so hard to do this. Staff wise we also really appreciated the pleasantness of Meddie and Hayley.
Communual areas of the hotel were a little tired in terms of decor. This could do with bringing up to date and would lift the hotel and make it feel even better than it was This hotel deserves very much to be a 4 start rated establishment.
This hotel was fabulous and we would stay here again without hesitation. One other observation is that is is a very popular wedding venue. Whilst this was fascinating for us (if you enjopy people watching as we do!) at times we felt a little invaded by weddings. The staff worked hard to keep guests and weddings separate and clealry there is much money and happiness to be made from hosting weddings in this stunnoing location! However there was a wedding virtually every day of our stay and one afternoon I felt distinctly uncomfortable sittting on our balcony reading with wedding guests pouring out onto the terrace in front of me and looking up at me as though I should't be there!
Overall though this hotel is great. Any negatives are more than made up for by a stunning location and situation, super staff and a great all round holiday. It was my first ever visit to the Lakes and it will not be my last. Well done, Inn on the Lake-you made a great holiday really memorable!

Room Tip: Go for a room at the LAKE side of the hotel otherwise you miss the hotel's best bit!

We were actually staying in a cottage a few doors away and decided to go out for our evening meal to The Inn On The Lake. As a family we had 4 different starters, main meals and deserts and all the family said their individual meals were absolutely amazing! The waiters were extremely efficient, extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble even when I requested a cushion for my dining chair as I am a little short to the table - it arrived in seconds. We all said the meal was so good that we returned for the following evenings dinner. Again we were not disappointed, but if I had to find one niggle it would be that our first choice of wine which we had ordered the previous night was not available, tho our second choice - a nice bottle of Loius Saint George went down rather well :-)
All in all Gary the manager is in charge of what appears to be a very well run ship and when we are next in the area will rush back immediately and would recommend this hotel to anyone, the amazing views and gardens are just an added bonus :-)
