Best Western Glenridding Hotel
Ranked #2 of 2 Hotels in Glenridding
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 8, 2013

This was our first time at this fine hotel. We have now stayed in the Inn on the Lake and the Best Western in Glenridding, and even though the BW is priced below TIOTL, it is just as good in every way.

The weather was extremely cold (mid March 2013) so we spent more time in the hotel than we had planned, and enjoyed every moment. Much of this time was spent in Ratchers Bar and I must commend the staff there for their friendliness, and the food in Ratchers was excellent, and great value.

The location of the hotel is great for walks around the area - from Helvellyn at the more testing level, to the nearby Lantys Tarn for the more sedate! Both great walks, and of course the nearby Aira Force offers some beautiful woodland walks along a truly lovely stretch of fast flowing river. And from the hotel car park down to the lake by the Boat Landings is only 2 or 3 minutes, and the start of some fine lakeshore walks (see photos...)

My wife and I really enjoyed Glenridding, and we will go back in the coming months, and we will without hesitation stay in the Best Western. (Great breakfast too by the way...)

The hotel is very nice, good pleasant facilities including free Wifi, pool, sauna, snooker table, bar, pub, restaurant and coffee shop. Perfectly situated in the lakes for easy access to all...

The Staff were very helpful especially the older gent who couldn't do enough for you...

The food in the restaurant however is overpriced and not amazing quality. Compared to Ratchers the restaurant comes second for food available in the hotel.

I ordered the squid for starter which was overpowered by the mushrooms and the sauce, the lamb that i ordered specifically medium rare came well done, which in hindsight was good as it was very touch for rump...

Breakfast was good but the ironically named 'Helvellin Challenge Breakfast' was pitiful. It was more of a challenge getting up in the morning than eating the breakfast, that on reflection the only way it was bigger was the plate it was served on!

Perhaps I am being harsh....A lovely place, lovely atmosphere and the rooms that we stayed in were lakeside view rooms that were stunning! Modern interior with spacious layout.
Ominous humming noise could have been heard every now and again, which i presumed was another rooms bathroom fan...

Room Tip: Lake side rooms are Lovely!!

Ended up here very last minute ... it was the area that we wanted to stay in for some walking and we knew that our dog could stay with us. It was lovely from the arrival ...the staff at reception ... the room... the breakfasts were super as was the food in the bar (also able to take the dog in the bar). The bar had a roaring log fire which was very welcome after out walking. The shower was powerful and the water very hot. Our room had a view of the fells and it was lovely to see the sunrise over the mountains. I see here some people have mentioned it is slightly dated ...I don't really agree .... its not modern but it is bright, clean and very welcoming. In so many hotels that are "dog friendly" you are permitted to take your pet to your room but not even in the bar which is a pain if you wish to eat there. This said the place is obviously well cleaned as there's not a sign of dog hair any where. I would recommend anyone visiting this area (with or without a dog) to stay in this hotel which is great value for money. The pier for the steamers for the trips on the lake is a couple of minutes walk from the door. I cant wait to visit again.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms have a view of either the lake or the fells ... you cant go wrong!!!

Just returned from an Easter break at this first class hotel set in a stunning location. We have been staying in the hotel every year for twenty two years and cannot fault the accommodation, quality of food and level of service by the staff. Thank you.

Roll on Christmas!

This is a lovely hotel on the lakeside, the room we were in had a fantastic view over the lake and the snow capped fells. The staff are really nice especially the Maitre D in the restaurant who was the most helpful kindest gentleman you could wish to meet. The lady on reception was also very nice and helpful. The food in the restaurant was delicious and the room was tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable.
This was our second visit and we would go back again and again!!!

PS Remember your swimsuit the sauna facilities are on public view

Room Tip: Dinner Bed and Breakfast is definitely great value! and ask for a room at the back of the hotel lea...

A three-night break to explore this area and hopefully climb some fells felt positively alpine with thick snow and ice covering the fell tops. Although cold it was spectacularly beautiful and this hotel made it a complete pleasure. Our room was overlooking the lake and Place Fell. It was warm and clean, the bed was comfortable and sleep was undisturbed. There is a swimming pool which was very quite as the hotel was not busy during out stay. The food here is delicious and the service was superb....I don't think I've ever been called ma'am before! In summary this is a cosy, friendly hotel serving fabulous food in a very beautiful part of the world, I think anybody would enjoy a break here.

Room Tip: Lakeside rooms are the best

Stayed here for 2 nights during the week leading up to Easter and with the snow the hotel wasn't busy. The staff were all very friendly and attentative and well aware of the local area for walks and access etc etc.
Ratchers pub is a very warm and cosy pub with good honest food and ales. The staff here were very welcoming.
Had a superior room on the lake side and if you can get it, it's a no brainer. GCH means it's very warm and cosy yet spacious, modern bathroom with luxury furnishings throughout. 30 spaces for car parking and great as a base for walking around Ullswater. Firmly recommend this place and will be back for a weekend break for sure.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the lake side if you can, room 2 (Silver Point) is adjacent to a store cupboard so...
