We had a great time staying in a real castle, although it was only for one night. The hotel is located on top of a mountain, and since the bus dropped us off in town, we had a steep climb to the top. Well worth it, though. Our room was really nice with a canopy bed and we had fun walking around exploring the castle at night. We actually stumbled upon someone practicing the violin in the chapel. The music just added to the charm of being in a castle. Dinner was delicious and the dining room had the tall back chairs that look like something out of the movies. What a cool experience!

Such promise!
The rooms are big and what you'd expect. The overall hotel is as pretty an has the air of historic opulence, but and it's a big but. The restaurant is dreadful, I have a restaurant so speak from experience. The menu was very strange and underwhelming. My husband had undercooked chicken and prawns which were off. Such a shame as the waiters were good and looked a tad embarrassed. I had lamb shank which was tough and the potatoes both burnt and undercooked!
I wouldn't come back, it's too far out and there's nothing else here!

Just over an hour's drive from Barcelona the castle sits above the town. There is not a lot of parking at the accommodation level of the Parador however they have no problem with you unloading at the front of reception then finding a park below. We went at the start of March which had the advantage of being out of tourist season which meant it was a bit cold. Nothing a few layers of clothing wouldn't fix. Also the town itself was just starting to reopen after winter, so on the first Sunday and Monday nights eating venues were hard to find. Staff were friendly and helpful, the food in the restaurant was good, maybe a bit expensive, and the breakfast plentiful. Couldn't think of a much better place to start a holiday.

Was here with my friend as he is obsessed with castles and always wanted to stay in one
So we decided to give it a go during our trip to Spain
And we were so lucky to have booked it
Awesome location on top of a mountain
Great looks from our room, staff was so helpful, awesome food and most of all such a beautiful castle
I think they have preserved the castle so well that it still looks gives the feel it very well
Located I think around an hours drive from Barcelona it is perfect getaway for a weekend in peace

A beautiful hotel on the pinnacle of a hill overlooking Cardona, with good food and fabulous views. The village below takes you back in time with winding roads, the traditional town square surrounding a fabulous cathedral where the population congregate. Magical Xmas eve experience.

The hotel was just okay - with much room for improvement in my view.
Luggage was problematical - no signs upon arrival to tell you where to stop to unload and no porters. This meant pushing very large suitcases from a long cruise up a very long and very steep, roughly cobblestoned hill to get to reception. Once there, the staff were not terribly welcoming or informative. It would have made sense for example to warn guests that their room would be pitch dark, locked, and would require card slotting to turn any lights on. Explain how to easily find the card receptacle in the dark... Or at least welcome guests by opening the shutters to let the daylight in so one can help yourself! My suite had a very large king sized bed, rather bare, with an unforgiving mattress, one blanket and traditional thin bedspread. Bathroom had pretty marble flecked with what looked like lapis lazuli, and good amenities.

Despite this it is well worth a visit.. the castle has many traditional features and evokes the romantic in those who welcome a change from the uniformity of modern style.

Room Tip: Avoid noisy suites in mezzanine floors.

What a great place to stay! After a awful experience in Andorra this was a palace by comparison. The charm of staying is a castle was paramount, but the rooms we had were very nice. Perhaps a fresh coat of paint would have been nice but very pleasant none the less. The staff was nice, and the restaurant was good too. A little spendy but well worth it. A really class act!

Very historic castle in a wonderful location. Reception and public rooms are beautiful and the rooms are nice, not luxurious. Perfect for one night. In the near location is Montserrat which is a must do, so coupling the Parador Cardona and Montserrat is perfect.
