“Stay in a castle in the air”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

We spent a memorable night in the castle in early October. The weather was pleasant, the views were spectacular and the entire castle was beautiful. If you're looking for a 5-star experience this is probably not it, but this one will go down in the record books. The included breakfast had more than enough food to cover many tastes, the photo ops are stunning, and the staff is courteous and able to handle many languages. There are informative signs around the property, and plenty of chances to stretch your legs as you walk around the property. If you go, pack light or make sure your bag has sturdy wheels--you'll need them. Don't miss taking in nearby Solsona and enjoy the afternoon in a medieval town that is still largely undiscovered and where you can find inexpensive prices for wine and tapas in a courtyard cafe while doing some people watching.

So the service, beds and dinner isn't great but when you're staying in something so old and incredibly beautiful with views like that, it doesn't matter. Feels like a fairy tale come to life. The breakfasts are pretty good.

A converted castle with poor soundproofing, your idea of luxury? Not mine!

The staff were OK, the room was big and comfortable but really no better than the standard Ibis one we'd stayed at in Barcelona the night before and that was less than half the price.

The meals were OK but certainly not great and more than twice the price of better ones we'd had at far more atmospheric restaurants in Barcelona.

And what an utterly miserable dump poor old Cardona is! All that you'd expect from a place that made its fortune mining salt. Nearby Solsona is far nicer. We won't be coming back....

Room Tip: In another town!

seldom does one have an opportunity to stay at such a magnificent place.
A castle where the modern hotel rooms have been cleverly integrated into the castle.
the rooms are large and very modern and well appointed.
you just cannot help taking photos of the architecture and the views.
the evening meal is very grand and food and service and both veery good.
breakfast was comprehensive
this is truly a different experience and should be a must do item if you are in the area.

Room Tip: all the rooms seem to be good with views all round

The parador at Cardona is an impressive castle. The parking area is a ways downhill from check-in and we were glad to have wheeled luggage and only needed to bring one bag to our room. Very helpful staff. Beautiful large room. Pick a room with a view of the mountains or the town. Cardona prospered from a deep salt mountain, left when the Atlantic ocean receded a bazillion years ago. Very nice outdoor bar area. Great breakfast buffet. Room was very nice but the bed was a bit hard.

Stayed one night at Parador Cardona en route from Barcelona to the Pyrenees.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Jorge who was very gracious and helpful. We upgraded from a basic to a superior room at a nominal golden age fee and enjoyed a large corner room
Overlooking the interior space as well as the town and salt mines, I must say, the historic relevence of the mines as well as there ethereal appearance on the hillside were actually quite a delight alongside the lively town. Our room on the 4th level was near a cozy bar where we sat blissfully taking in the ambience. Dinner was delightful. The room comfortable, with huge marble baths and the consistent fixtures one finds in all the parador properties.
This particular location is indeed special and worth a stop.

Room Tip: All views -are lovely. Ask to see the room before checking completed.

Arrived on hot hot day. The castle has an old church and offers wonderful 360 views which you can enjoy and also walk around at night. Great Bocadillos at lunchtime. The restaurant looks magnificent at in the evening and enjoyed a good meal. Relaxing stop over on way to Pyrennes.
