“Great hotel”
Reviewed October 20, 2012

Hospitality in a medioeval castle, well preserved and kept is something of unique. Good reception, very confortable rooms and a view from chambers that takes your breath away. Excellent food served at restaurant at reasonable price, for quality given. All in all, a recommandable place to stay.

“Grim food and poor service”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We have visted four other Paradors on our trip to Spain this year and this has to be the worst of all from a dining perspective. Shame as the dining hall is a wonderful baronial style room. But the service was awful. The staff surly and would be better suited guarding prisoners rather than serving paying customers. the maitre d' appeared briefly to take the order but that was all we saw of him and the lady in charge of the so called "service" hardly smiled once. The lady serving the wines was better but we didnt see much of her. The menu was typical Parador, very Spanish and with good Celiac and diabetic options (which had been fine elsewhere ) but here the cooking coud only be described as amateurish school dinner style. The "amuse bouche" from the chef was quite tasty lentil soup with a fishy eggy quiche type garnish but looked rather clumsy. The "Verduras" of vegetables and Iberico Jamon sounded great but was just an unimaginative heap of overcooked vegetable stew. The Asparagus tasted as if it were tinned - either that or ju with a few pieces of chopped up ham interspersed. all grossly overcooked and mixed with all manner of other boring stuff. The melon and avocado dish was a load of melon balls interspersed with avocado puree and sitting on some bitter raddicio that just clashed entirely. The two plain cooked fish mains (one griled Turbot and one grilled prawns)were OK as ther wasnt too much they could do to ruin them. My "regional speciality" of Duck with orange sauce turned out to be grey piece of lukewarm confit of duck served with three orange segments and a little orange "sauce?" and a spoonful of local plain Ebro delta rice that added nothing to the dish - just awful. One of our friends had monkfish ragout that was more like a fish stew and no one had bothered to remove the sinew from the monkfish so he had to pick his way through this to find the edible parts. The diabetic ice cream turned out to be pretty good and I tried the local pastries with a glass of local dessert wine which was also quite nice, but really all too late to resurrect an otherwise forgettable meal. Reasonable priced wine recommendations and a good selection by the glass were quite good, though spoilt by "clena" glasses that smelt as if they were musty and had to be changed. Also a rather pretentious water menu that was not really necessary and didnt add anything to the experience. My advice would be to ignore bthe half board option and treck into town and find somewhere normal!.

“Lovley ambienance”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

Food was a little overpriced but given the surroundings was to be expected. We came last year & all the staff were dressed in costume it was a shame that they weren't dressed like it this time as it took some of the specialness away from the place

Plenty of choice for the food and wines. Staff were very attentive and we started with the chef's 'amuse bouche'.
