“Delightful hotel in a delightful village”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

It's hard to say what is the best feature of this hotel - the beautiful old house itself, with its charming sitting room upstairs; the delicious and abundant breakfast (freshly squeezed orange juice!); the charming host; the comfort of the furnishings; even the reliable alarm-clock peacock next door. We were simply delighted with it all. It was fun chatting with Rafael in the afternoons as he served us cocktails. He quickly came to seem like a family friend.
The village is perfect: large enough to be continually interesting, small enough to be quiet and friendly. We were intrigued by the clever devices for pouring properly aerated cidro! The Colegiata Santa Juliana is magnificent and awe-inspiring. I could have stayed for a week.

Room Tip: Our room had a rather low ceiling that slanted over the wardrobe; my husband hit his head more than...

From the moment we walked in to the large hall and the warm welcome we knew it would be good. Unusually for Spain we had our cases carried to the room which was quiet, roomy and very well fitted. High class toiletries galore, soft new towels and a window overlooking the cloisters. Even fell in love with the cockerell next door.

Private car park at the rear a huge bonus although the steep steps or path to and fro may be a problem for some. Easier to drive to the front door to unload/load. A few yards walk to the town centre and some good restaurants and bars. Photogenic first thing in the morning before the coach trips arrive.

Very good breakfast with breads, ham, cheeses, great fresh coffee and juices squeezed to order. Lovely on the terrace. Superb, well run hotel where service is five star.

Room Tip: There is a large first floor landing used as a meeting room. The next door room (ours) can suffer fr...

There's nothing much to add to my other reviews. This was our 3rd stay and once again we felt warmly welcomed, completely relaxed and totally contented in this wonderful, family run Posada. This time we had room eleven, which I would recommend for its additional balcony and gorgeous views of the rooftops and distant hills.

There is something beautifully old fashioned about the way things are done at Casa Del Organista. Crisp table linen, freshly squeezed oranges at breakfast, late night drinks from the little bar, immaculately clean and characterful rooms - and nothing too much trouble. Really high standards but all delivered in a very unassuming, effortlessly charming way.

Again, breakfast is a joy on the lovely terrace - and it's such a generous spread. A real treat every morning - with no rush .... it's served until 11am!!

Value for money is, I think, second to none. Customer service - excellent.

We initially stayed here because of its proximity to, but safe distance from Santander!! ( ferry - well under an hour away - on a quiet day, 30 minutes ). But it is so much nicer to extend your stay here and explore Cantabria - a very beautiful region.

The best of Spain!!

Room Tip: Choose a room at the front of the house or on the top floors if you are worried about comments regar...

Our room was everything one could wish for in a modestly priced hotel. It was large, there was a lovely balcony, and a bathtub, not just a shower. The church bells and the roosters added to the charm, though ear plugs might also assist. The hotel was lived in by the church organist and his family for over 60 years until he died in the late sixties. (if you haven't been to the church of the convent, you must go, it is extraordinary.) The organ is from the 17th century and beautiful. The house of the organist fell into disrepair after his death, and was finally bought and restored in 1996. It is run by the son of the owner, a good host with excellent English skills. The buffet breakfast is good, with cereal, toast, cheeses and ham etc., served in a lovely dining area looking out on to a field of horses. Wifi is available, though not secure.

Room Tip: Rooms eleven, twelve and thirteen have balconies, with 13 being the largest and on the corner.

This hotel is so charming, the atmosphere is magical. It is so well run and taken care of that you would like to stay longer. The breakfast (delicious) is served on the terrace with great views of the towns most important landmark.
Thanks a lot to the nice people who took such good care of us.

Small, friendly, intimate, personal, unassuming, solid, full of elegant touches. Location hard to improve upon. I felt at home here and could imagine renting a room for the season, should the opportunity arise. There would certainly be no point in paying any higher price for a room in Santanilla.

There is no restaurant, but there are five of quality in the village within a few hundred metres.

Stayed here unfortunately only for one night last summer. The hotel was more like an old-fashioned inn, lovely decorated and welcoming. It was a bit difficult to find late at night in the dark, but I suppose all the hotels in the area are. Good location in the centre of the village though. The boy at the reception was very nice and helpful (although he didn't speak any English at all). Our room upstairs was spotlessly clean and just wonderful. We had breakfast (which was very good and included in the very reasonable room rate) on the backyard terrace, enjoying Spanish countryside.

Santillana del Mar was a charming and beautifully restored little village - but there were only tourists and services for tourists there, which was a bit disappointing.
