“I love this hotel!”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

My husband and I came across this hotel on our travels to Spain 2 years ago and liked it so much that we decided to return this year. The location of the hotel is perfect for us as we like to take the ferry to/from Santander when we visit Spain, and Santillana del Mar is only about an hours drive away from the port.

The hotel itself has a warm and welcoming "feel" to it with lots of dark wood, big furniture, ornaments and lovely paintings on the walls. The rooms are big and always immaculately clean, and the beds are very comfortable. We paid extra for the breakfast, which was very good with exception of the temperature of the tea water. I am as passionate about my tea as most Spanish are about their coffee, and I expect the water at the breakfast buffet to be scolding hot but unfortunately during this visit it was more "luke warm" than hot.

The hotel provides free wifi and car parking outside the hotel on the other side of the road, plus extra car parking space just up the road.

The staff is lovely and most of them speak good English if you do not want to test your Spanish.

Santillana del Mar itself is a lovely village with fantastic beaches within a 15-20 minutes drive away, and it is also famous for its Altamira caves which is the reason we ended up visiting this place the first time around. We have enjoyed every visit to Santillana del Mar and we will definitely return both to the village and the hotel within the foreseeable future.

Hotel is just on the main road through Santillana but almost no traffic whilst we were there. Lots of parking opposite and we never had trouble finding a space - might be different in peak summer but there is also more parking very close by. Staff were lovely - good english spoken by many. Bar choice not huge but good enough. Food lovely and breakfast choice very good - potato and onion cake, omelette with mushrooms, Salami and chorizo, cheeses and a host of sweet pastries, cakes etc. Furnishings in the hotel are really lovely and worth seeing - very typical antique Spanish style and rooms are cool even when outside gets really hot. No actual air conditioning in rooms but fans circulate air and we found it fine. Santillana is a must-do if you're in that general area. Cobbled streets, huge choice of small shops and restaurants, Museums, churches and the Altimera caves with their prehistoric paintings just under 2 miles down the road. Museum of torture well worth the small entrance price if you've got a strong stomach!!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a balcony

Hotel Museo Los Infantes offers the kind of charm I look for when staying in Spain. It features many sitting rooms where you can relax and chat with traveling companions or people you've met along the way. These vary from a library to a lounge to a large living-room like space. Our junior suite had an ante-room with a desk and love seat which was a great place for me to do some work without disturbing the sleep in the adjacent bedroom. Bathrooms contain all the conveniences as well. On the ground floor you'll find a bar and dining room for refreshments or a local meal. Staff were absolutely wonderful, the kind of people that welcome you with sincerity and do everything they can to make your stay the best it can be. The personal touch here really is charming. I hope to return soon.

This hotel is a destination in and of itself with the antiques and the cozy feeling in the multiple sitting areas. We slept so well here and enjoyed walking around the village. It is a great jumping off point for touring not only Santander, but the many wonderful villages around. The hotel is a gem and the staff is excellent. We had breakfast both days (extra charge) and it was tasty. Fer, the manager, made us feel comfortable from the moment we walked in.

Room Tip: I can't imagine there being a bad room here. Even street-side would be quiet, especially at nig...

dear Kelly, thanks so much for your comments. The hotel is very special because of its decoration full of antiques. We love our job and apreciate you can feel that. It is true that Santillana is very well locatexd in order to visit all the area. Its just in the center of Catabria and you can visit all without having to travel over an hour for any visit. It is also very confi to go "home" bak to the same place without having to pack your suitcase everyday. Thanks for all :-)

We only stayed 1 night before taking the ferry from Santander next day but received a welcome that would have been justified if we had been staying much longer.
Our room was very comfortable with a very well appointed bathroom and all wonderfully clean.
We ate a fabulous dinner, the Infantes special menu, which was all served and explained in great detail by our hosts. Breakfast next morning was a buffet feast.
All the staff we met were friendly and helpful and this was a genuine family run hotel of real quality.
We will definitely return and stay longer next time.
