I would recommend it highly. I went with my daughter and we made a mistake at the reservation as it appears that we had only one room for both of us. I ask for a room for me as her was quite nice. Unfortunately they had only a very small one available but it was quite OK.

I would just criticize a bit the included breakfast as it was not really up to standards. Weak coffee, cheap bread, etc. Not really to Spanish standards. But all in all the experience was great

We have looked at photos of hotels online and when we arrive the places are nothing like them - not with the Altamira as the place was even BETTER than the photos! The lady on reception was very helpful and showed us to our room then gave us a map of the area so we were able to explore. The room was beautiful, exactly what we had expected and very comfortable with everything we needed. It was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was well appointed with a walk-in shower. The hotel is central for exploring Santillana del Mar, there is a bar attached to the restaurant with reasonably priced drinks and the breakfast the next morning had everything you could wish for in a continental breakfast and we met a lot of people walking the Camino. We would certainly stay there again as the only downside was 2 lots of church bells which chimed on the hour but that didn't stop us sleeping well

Hotel right in the Centre of the village - however only drive to the hotel if you have a small car and don’t mind avoiding the tourists!! Our satnav brought us in to the rear entrance along v tight streets.

Warm welcome from reception and helped direct us to the hotel when we were lost! Charming room, beautiful beams and stone walls. Beds v comfortable and nice sheets however room was v dark and gloomy - better lighting could have helped. Bathroom and shower were fine but towels disappointing. Breakfast was adequate with no hot option however overall good value for money, pleasant service and great location.

What a great experience. This hotel is perfectly located in the middle of the old town in Santillana del Mar. It is a very old building (I think it is 2 buldings merged). They made sure to recreate the old times with decoration and rugs to make you feel that you are in a small palace. Rooms are small but comfortable, and even though they don't have elevators it is an easy ride up to the 3rd floor.

We spent 2 wonderful days in this charming 18th Century hotel the first week of August 2017. We were absolutely delighted by the warm welcome received by all personnel and in particular by the young couple (the owners) managing this hotel fully furnished in 18th century style. The room was larger than expected with confortable beds and a balcony overlooking beautiful Santillana del Mar. The best meal we had was by far at the terrasse of this hotel (reasonable price and high quality food). Hotel price included breakfast which is less and less the case elsewhere. Parking the car was no problem as parking facilities were nearby at a reasonable fee. From the hotel you can reach Altamira Museum and the replica of the Prehistorical Cave in 5 minutes by car.
