This hotel is always going to be slightly restricted by the building which is a wonderful old townhouse in the centre of Soller. That is however part of the charm. It has been imaginatively converted and the staff, especially Matthew and Laura, could not be more hospitable or friendly. They were able to give excellent local advice to all our queries re restaurants, transport etc,

The pool area is a wonderful haven of tranquility with sun and shade available ( we were lucky with weather), drinks and food available on demand, and swallows flying overhead.

We stayed in one of the pool level rooms which in Summer are wonderful with a small terrace for breakfast. I think it was seven yards from our door to the pool, with our sun beds in between.

You are five minutes walk from the main square and the tram to the Port so location is excellent.

It is precisely because this is a small, individual, stylish but friendly hotel that it is a great place to stay.

Beautiful place, very stylish, great service (always there when needed but not in your face when you don't), delicious fresh breakfast every day taken in the cool peaceful terrace area by the pool, we had room 7 which has fabulous views of the sun coming up over the mountains every morning, lovely comfy bed, double shower, bath big enough for two, perfect location, nothing too much trouble for Matthew and Laura.... strongly recommend it. It's important to say this is a posh b&b with extras like the pool and the option of lunch / tapas - it's not a hotel as such, and so long as this is your expectation you will not be disappointed. We specifically wanted the B&B arrangement and it really works. We would love to return!

Room Tip: Room 7 overlooks the road / car park but because room 7 is on the 2nd floor, your view (unless you l...

I have just returned from a three day trip to Hotel L'Avenida with two girlfriends. We honestly had one of the best weekends away that we have ever had. The hotel is beautiful - we stayed in room 3, a vast, beautifully decorated room with a stunning bathroom. Matthew and Laura and the other staff could not do enough to make our stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible. We had a lovely (and welcome) glass of cava on arrival and a fantastic lunch by the pool on the first day (we ate out for evening meals). Breakfast was also delicious. On our last day, we were able to use our room until we left the hotel at 5pm - this made such a difference as we really felt as if we had a proper full day at the hotel. The kitchen was officially closed for lunch on the Sunday but we were offered a delicious baguette and so we didn't have to drag ourselves away from lying by the pool! Nothing was too much trouble. The location of the hotel is also great - minutes away by foot from the centre of the town, and a very short cab ride or tram ride away from the port. We really could not fault this hotel at all, and will definitely be returning as soon as we can!

We decided to take a short break to enjoy a couple of days away together to celebrate our wedding anniversary and a significant birthday. L'Avenida is a beautifully decorated hotel in an elegant building close to the centre of the lovely town of Soller. Our welcome was warm (from Matthew), with a cold glass of cava on the balcony overlooking the pool while our case was delivered to our room. The room, number 7, was attractively designed and very comfortable. It was on the top floor on the road side, with the most spectacular views of the mountains.
We found the hotel very peaceful, dare I say a little too peaceful, with a very hushed atmosphere - so if peace and quiet is your thing then this is the place for you. We would maybe have preferred it a tiny bit more lively, around the pool felt a little awkward with no music playing and nobody talking to each other.
There is plenty to do in the surrounding area:
A seat in one of the bars in the town square is a fantastic place to watch the world go by, and because it is only a 2 minute walk from the hotel, just the place to maybe share some sangria or a bottle of wine.
There is the glorious Port de Soller, with an abundance of bars and restaurants ideally placed for people watching. Our favourite dinner was at So Caprichos which had delicious food and attentive service and we'd be glad to recommend it.
We took a drive into the beautiful towns of Deia and Valldemossa, stopping on the way back at Cala Deia for a glass of wine overlooking a spectacular bay.
The train from the Soller town centre station into Palma was also a lovely day out and really worth doing for the views across the mountains and the novelty of travelling on an old fashioned wooden train.
In the interests of balance I should point out a couple of things that I think could be improved.
The products in the bathroom - in these days of travel with hand luggage only and weight
restrictions on the airlines I don't bother to pack bathroom products because I only stay in good quality hotels and these are generally provided. There was some shampoo and shower gel but no conditioner or body lotion provided. This hotel isn't cheap and it's little touches that make the difference.
I also think it would be nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room for those of us who like an early morning cuppa before breakfast.
To summarise though, this is a beautiful hotel with excellent staff in a fantastic location. What's not to like?

Beautifully restored building and room. Lovely pool area with plenty of space. The location is very central to the lovely town, although the street is a little noisy if you are planning a lie-in.
The breakfast was delicious and very varied for a small hotel, with different items added each day. The lunch was also very good.
However the most outstanding thing about this hotel is the service. Laura and Matthew are exceptionally helpful and attentive without being intrusive. They really do make this hotel extra special.

Having read other recent review, I have to say I cannot agree with James B, who suggested that L'Avenida is 'marmite' - a hotel for some tastes but not for others. We found it comfortable, intimate, elegant, attractively designed and perfectly placed in the delightful town of Soller. It's a wonder that such a town-centre hotel can be so peaceful (apart from some Friday-evening bagpipe-playing that wafts its rather tuneless way into the hotel garden from a nearby club!). There's nothing to dislike about L'Avenida, and everything to like. If you just want to rest and recuperate from a busy working life, then this is the place for you. The hotel doesn't offer dinner, but there are lots of good restaurants in Soller and just a tram-ride away in Port de Soller. If you hire a car, the choice is endless. L'Avenida does offer a simple but excellent lunch menu, which is perfect as you laze beside the swimming pool. Incidentally, some have said that the pool is too cold. It isn't heated, that's for sure, but if you are sitting around the poolside on a hot day then the cool water is just what's needed. It's a small pool, but I thoroughly enjoyed my swims. We had mixed weather, but little rain, and so our holiday was spent mostly out of doors. The wooden train to Palma was an experience, and we found that bus travel was efficient. I can see, though, that L'Avenida would be limited if you have the misfortune to encounter a week of really bad weather. The room we were in (a lovely room with a shared balcony overlooking the pool) wouldn't have given us much comfort on rainy days. It was dark, for a start, which would have made reading books very tricky. A couple of bright reading lights placed near the comfortable chairs would be a help. Also, as mentioned to Matthew, a broader top sheet beneath the 'counterpane', which you could actually tuck in, would have improved our sleep. On the minus side, there is little communal space to sit and read a book. There's a cosy bar, but it's not the ideal place to read. However, having said all the above, our holiday was a great success and hugely enhanced by the wonderful people who looked after our every need: Matthew and Laura, especially, but also Emiliano and Tony were helpful and friendly. Monica made delicious lunches for us, and our rooms were kept spotlessly clean. We had the warmest welcome from Matthew, who never gave anything but maximum attention to us and answered all our questions, as did Laura. They are two of the friendliest, most delightful managers you could hope to meet. From the moment we met them, they made us feel as though we were the most important people (thank you so much, Matthew, for that warm welcome and the glass of chilled cava. And thank you for making the very best breakfast coffee we have ever had in a hotel). What more could you want? And I'm pretty sure that all the other guests felt the same way as we did. All of us were made to feel so relaxed and welcome. Five star ratings go to Matthew and to Laura, and to the rest of the staff; five stars go to the elegant and peaceful hotel (the sun loungers were perfectly comfortable by the way); five stars goes to the beautiful island of Majorca and to Soller itself; three stars goes to the fickleness of the weather in 2013. It's unpredictable everywhere in Europe, that's the reality. But anyone going to L'Avenida should be aware that if the skies open and the rains fall then this isn't going to be the perfect place to chill out indoors. Our advice for wet-weather days is to take some walking shoes, a sweater and an anorak and just get out there and enjoy the island. You can always put your nose in a book (or a kindle) when you're back home!

Thank you, Laura and Matthew for looking after us so well in this gorgeous hotel, for making us so welcome and doing so much to make our stay enjoyable. We loved our balcony room and loved the friendly staff, who got it all just right. If only they could manage and control the weather as well as they manage and run the hotel, life would indeed be perfect. Yes, sadly, the weather was beyond disappointing for late May, which meant we couldn't take advantage of the pool area, which looks so inviting - and we yearned for a hot bath (there was plenty of room for one in our huge bathroom), to warm up after a rainy day in Palma!
Our only other criticism: I was disappointed to discover when I booked, that the biggest beds (in the suites, which have no balcony) are only queen size. In a hotel of this standard, all beds should be king-size or twins pushed together. Good sleep is an awfully important part of a holiday! Our double bed was a standard size, which is far too small, and the mattress was soft and uncomfortable.

Room Tip: If you enjoy having a balcony/outside area, choose one of the two balcony rooms available, and there...
