“Cas Curial: Hidden gem, peaceful haven”
Reviewed July 10, 2011

My partner and I have just spent a week at this beautiful finca. Our welcome to this small, family-run hotel was warm and friendly. Our accommodation was also extremely good. All the rooms are different, but we had a suite which looked like a little stone house with bathroom and lounge on the ground floor then up the wooden stairs to our Mallorcan-style bedroom. The grounds are beautiful, full of greenery, including citrus trees, and the pool has a perfect setting with plenty of either sun or shade for the loungers. One word of advice: don’t miss the food! Just warn the family before they start cooking if you want to eat in and you won’t be disappointed as they serve up three courses of delicious home-cooked Mallorcan cuisine. With regards to the location, it is an easy 10 minute stroll out of the back of hotel into the centre of Sóller, with a small supermarket and couple of bars just a couple of minutes away. Andrés Rullán runs this hotel with his wife and son, and a small number of staff. I think clients come here for a tranquil, relaxing break (although particularly outside of the hottest months of the year it is also a popular base for walking holidays) and that is exactly what is on offer. Clients are left largely to their own devices – drinks and ice creams are available from a pool-side honesty bar during the day – but the family are extremely keen to help with any requests if you do need them. To be honest, I really want to keep this little gem to myself, but the hotel so deserves a great review that my conscience drives me to share!

Owners are very helpful and cannot do enough for you. Good selection of foods available for breakfast, and dinner was great as it was nice to have some 'proper' food for a change. Superb swimming pool in a loveky setting in amongst orange groves and very comfortable sun loungers. Highly recommended.

This was the Mallorca we didn't know about - it exceeded our expectations on every count.
Rooms were large, well fitted out and immaculate. Breakfast great, help yourself from enormous choice and all fresh. They don't do lunch but will put up a packed lunch for you, an option we took a couple of times.Dinner is three course fixed menu changing daily; good ,well cooked and varied, we ate in six nights out of seven. We drank the local wine, good and good value, and usually seemed to finish up with local liqueurs on the house! A good time to discuss with Andres or his son what we were going to do next day.
Other reviewers comment on the wonderful location, it is superb.Peaceful but not remote and a very well tended pool and gardens. The tram between Soller and the port and the train from Soller to Palma mean you don't really need wheels to get about, but Cala Tuent for a beach and a breathtaking drive is well worth a visit. For something different try the Alfarbia Gardens just south of Soller, laid out by the Moors in 15th century!
The Rullin family are friendly, English speaking and want you to enjoy your stay. They will do all they can to help and we very much appreciated all they did for us.

We stayed at Ca's Curial for 4 nights as we were in urgent need of a re-charge. We could not have chosen a better place. 25-30mins by taxi from Palma airport and you arrive in Soller, a wonderful old town with great places to eat and drink, set amongest the citrus groves that used to be the main industry here before tourists arrived (and I have to say that even though we stayed before the main UK school holidays, it was lovely and quiet compared to other places we have stayed in Mallorca) with the fantastic back drop of the Tramuntana - a vista to rival the Alps.
Our arrival at the hotel was a bit too low key as we did not seem to be expected. However, in hind sight that was a tad harsh as we arrived at 11am and the previous encumbants of our room were still present. You have to realise that staying here is very similar to visiting a family home, which it is in all the best sense too. It is not a 5 star establishment where you are waited on hand and foot, however it is a 5 star establishment where you have a wonderfully clean and comfortable room (huge bed, just as well as I am 196 cms tall and my wife hates getting my elbow in an awkward place during the night!!), beautifully kept grounds with a lovely pool and yes, you really can just pick an orange from your lounger and eat it, but most important of all if you are looking for a restful spot to stay, you can relax completey unhindered by anything at all. The hotel has 11 rooms (incl suites) which was pretty much full while we were there and we slept and read a book by the pool for the first 2 days without anyone else to share the pool with for much of that time. We felt very lazy as others walked the hills or the streets or got on tains, buses or into cars to visit other sites. We have visited Mallorca on several trips before so we had no desire to leave the wonderful surroundings of this lovely finca.
We did have a couple of runs (on feet) to Port de Soller and on one occasion up to the Lighthouse, damn near killed me! We also ran up to Biniaraix and Fornalutx which was very picturesque too. The region seems to be controlling any development very well, all the newer properties are very much in keeping with the old and the valley looks very rural with plenty of space, trees and citrus groves.
Andres senior and junior will happily attend to anything you need, they are just not "in your face" with it so you might need to go and find them but nothing is a hassle. If they are not at reception or about, you call from reception. The breakfast is a selection of fresh fruit (pineapple, kiwis, plums, cherries, grapes, papaya, melon etc), fresh croissants and other bread, cold meats, cheese as well as boiled or scrammbled eggs, sausages etc. PLUS any amount of freshly squeezed orange juice - fantastic. Lunch is not on tap but you can order sandwiches or salads. Dinner you can put your name down for in the morning if you wish, we ate in on 2 occasions and it was very worth while.
Snacks from the pool and mini bar: "honesty box" - you keep a list of what you use and have a chat with Andres at the end of your stay. Don't see that every day!!
We ate out twice, once down at the port, once in Soller. There is a huge number of eating establishments in the port. If we go again, which is highly likely, I would like to try to get in at one of the small eateries along to the right of the marina where a small road rises from the harbour and there are a row of tables up the side of the road - all were busy the evening we went down. We did however have a fantastic cocktail at a bar/ice cream joint along the front that had an upstairs lounge area and we sat looking out over the port as the sun went down - wow. We ended up almost getting the tram back to Soller hungry (for me anyway) until we spotted Bar Joules just at the point where the tram meets the front. Lovely small bar with a few tables outside and fantastic grub. In Soller we ate at an old stable, or so it said, called Petite Cellar cas Carreter at the Palca America, wonderful mallorcan food.
Soller market is on Saturdays and great for a rummage.
We'll be back!

Room Tip: Just e-mail Andres and ask!

We entirely agree with most of the reviewers. Ca's Curial is a beautiful place set in the middle of orange and lemon trees, with mountains in the background, very peaceful and very quiet, an idyllic setting. Our room was great and everything was well. This, however, did not last for our entire stay. A family group arrived, c. 14 adults and 5 children. As family groups tend to, they were very noisy, especially round the pool. As this is a small hotel, noise cannot be absorbed as would have been the case in a larger hotel. I would certainly love to go back to Ca's Curial, but I would need Andres's assurance that he had not accepted any bookings for a large family group.
In my ratings, I have given Andres the benefit of our enjoyment for the first few days, for the latter few days my ratings would have been considerably lower.

We stayed at Ca's Curial for 11 nights and as this was the first Agrotourism we had ever booked we were a little unsure what to expect, as our previous holidays had always consited of the top of the market (5 stars plus).

We immediately felt relaxed and at home in the hotel and in the company of the family.

We had a suite which was spacious, clean and very tranquil with lovely views from the bedroom window of the surrounding countryside.

We had dinner for 7 of our evenings at Ca's Curial and whilst it is always nice to take in some of the local restaurants we found that the food service and quality was by far the best we experienced, with the added bonus of being able to have good conversations over dinner with like minded guests. The selections of wine available was of good quality and very reasonably priced, young Andreas has a fabulous knowledge of local wines.

Ca's Curial is ideally situated for a gentle stroll into the town of Soller which offers a good selection of shops, it is also within easy reach of the pretty Port of Soller. As we had hired a car and were able to travel further along the North of the island which posesses some of the most beautiful scenery on Majorca.

Both Andreas and his son are extremely dedicated to their business, they are constantly striving to provide anything that their guests desire. It is also their intention to have boat excursions and other activities on the island should anyone wish to do so. They also intend to provide Tapas luncheons, Paella and barbeque evenings which would be fabulous given the beautiful outdoor eating area.

We would not hesitate in giving Ca's Curial our highest recommendation and plan to return and intend to try other Agrotourism hotels in the future.

However, we quickly realized that any fears we may have had were unwarranted.

This is a great choice if you want to get away from it all...

On our arrival at this beautiful family-run traditonal Majorcan country house, Andres junior prepared freshly squeezed orange juice made with oranges from Cas Curial's groves – very refreshing and the best we have ever tasted! The family ensure a warm welcome and do everything they can to provide a pleasant stay. Their philiosophy is friendly and discrete, however if you are looking for constant 'service' from staff you may be disappointed.

The building is in a stunning location with towering mountains as the panoramic backdrop to the lovely orange groves and paved paths with borders of lavender.

We had booked a 'double room with terrace' and were given a double room on the ground floor, opposite reception (down a couple of steps from the reception lounge, which was noisy at times). The room itself was beautiful and spacious, and the bed was extremely comfortable, but the ground-floor terrace was rather cramped and small. In all, we felt that the room lacked privacy due to its location, as our door was in full view of reception. We would recommend choosing a different room if possible – especially for a Honeymoon.

Breakfast is a generous buffet-style spread with plenty to choose from. Then, if you feel peckish during the day, there is a small 'honesty bar' building beside the pool, with fridges and freezers, where you can help yourself to icecream and drinks. Keep track of what you have consumed and advise Andres on departure. The mini-bar in the bedroom is also reasonably priced.

Dinner, if required, is booked at breakfast time and is served at 8 o'clock. It comprises of 3 courses, but there is no choice (days alternate meat and fish). However if you are unhappy with the day’s menu, Andres can arrange for something to be rustled up from their freezer.

Ca’s Curial is not centrally situated in Soller and if you want to eat out it’s approx 10 minutes walk to the city centre, but its peaceful and to sit outside surrounded by citrus groves and wildlife is wonderful.
